I honestly never try before.I did observe for a while after harvest....the lower part sprouts out new stems that I believe capable of carrying new fruits..but I only practice 1 tree 1 harvest.... commercial grower purposely reduce the water intake to sweeten the melon....that make next flowering impossible
@@TonysExploration in my opinion thats an inefficient use of space and time. You can get multiple melons from a single plant if you have space. After the plant reaches maturity it can produce fruit much faster than growing a new plant. I would give each plant 3-5+ fruits each depending on how long your growing season is for them.
Great video!! I am at day 32 and wondering what to do about pinching off the 7 if I have multiple shoots from one seed?? You have one long, main vine, but I have about 3 or 4 vines from each of the 4 seeds that I planted.
You definitely on the right tracks and the good thing is you have 4 seeds. The best part about gardening is always about experiment and observations. I would suggest you try to take a plant and cut off the multiple vine and left only a single stem. The rest 3 seeds, maybe maintain multiple vines. At the end of season, observe which give you the best quality melons .. happy gardening!
Great video! Thanks for sharing 👍. Question: mine sprouted from a fresh seed. I put it in a small pot to grow, should I let it continue to grow indoors until it get leaves on it? TIA 😊
Yes , you could continue to do indoor but make sure have sunlight or LED grow light...try to expose to sun for hardening process once ready for transplant

I take that as positive feedback, give me 2 weeks time, I will upload another video on muskmelon with complete explanation on pot size, fertilizer regime , watering, pest and time to harvest ...etc.
Grew mine outside and tried to let nature do all the work. 5 plants and only one of them fruited. Should’ve manually pollinated. But better than nothing. It’s about 2/3 the size of yours. I didn’t pinch off the end after the cantaloupe. I’ll do all this next year. This was a fairly cold summer in PA.
I grew hydroponics cantaloupe amd harvest in 60 days and weighs 1.4- 1.8kgs. What surprises me is how small your pot is. What are the fertilizers you are using? Good job!
Every morning. To be honest, the water regime is very subjective, the amount also subjective, depend on the plant growth and also the weather. The golden rule always moist. Yellow colour could due to fungus attack or root rot.
The idea is to give calcium to your plants, it's good for encouraging fruiting I think. You can add vinegar to eggshells, let it sit for a while, then dilute with water and put it on the plants.

So, im a "first time gardener" besides from helping my dad plant his little projects. I took it upon myself to clear out an already pre-made garden thing that the old owners of my parents house made, and im currently trying to grow some small looking watermelon, some cantaloupe, red peppers, tomatoes, and corn. It seems like a lot, and it probably is for a beginner, but I know I can do it. I just have a few questions. It seems like people like to rip of the male flower to pollinate the female flower, does the male flower actually produce any melons? or is it just the female? Also once my plants start to actually grow, will I have to put in sticks like you did? I want to try and make this garden as useful and yummy as possible, do you have like a "green house" type of style or is it just outside in the open? I did find some quite tall bamboo sticks in the garden when I was clearing out all the grass, and im not sure what to do with them, it seems like the old owners used them since i see some sort of tie on it. I am not sure where or how to make use of it. I also got some more bamboo sticks from my grandmother when i was growing a tomato last year. I might need to use those to elevate the melons once im able to, so no bugs or bad animals get into it. My melon seeds are about 6-7 days old and i see all of them have started to sprout with two little leaves. I havent seen the red pepper yet, so I decided to put even more seeds into some cups and just wait that way, ive also just put 4 corn seeds into the cups, and 4 tomato seeds into the cups. sorry for writing so much😅
starting with melon , yes, you need the male to pollinate the female, and not vice versa. The female have the ovary bulb, which will turn into fruits. You don't have to follow my style , which grow vertically, if you have space, just a trellis platform will do as well. I encourage and recommend a green house, the red pepper and melon are attractive to many type of pest. So a green house definitely increase your chances of success. Gardening is always about the process, you will gain the experience along the way. You definitely have many unpleasant surprise along the way...keep it going. Melon have weak roots, commercial farmer normally graft the melon into the gourd , that is completely a whole new level. Happy gardening.

Is almost two inch per day here in tropical country. Keep it up, you learn as you keep observed. One thing I found out later, is that melon absorb AB fertilizer very well. I have now doing a new season using only AB fertilizer. The result amazing. I will upload video in next month after harvest. Go and grab AB fertilizer, using EC meter, give a EC2.5- 3 , around 400-500ml per pot, you and see the result. Is very hard to compare because here is tropical country. By the way, I struggle with other crops that grow well in your region. The strawberry , peach , persimmon all is struggling here.

Hi Tony, I enjoyed your video. Can you do a video on how you made your trellis and enclosure. I’m getting ready to plant my cantaloupe and watermelon. Thank you for the video again.
Thank you for stopping by my channel. Let me check back if I still have those footage on the enclosure. I lost a big chuck of data when my hard disk crash last year. The enclosure is not necessary, unless your area prone to whitefly pest...i think my cherry tomato video does show a portion how this was built. Anyway...the trellis is a simple individual stick put in the middle of each pot, around 5 feet long, then I tie a horizontal stick. to stabilize it. The top i just tie a string down to guide the plant
Omg Wow!!! Thanks for this upload, I’m going to have to try this!! Do you know if we can use the seeds from these fresh melons that we buy from the supermarket? Or do we hv to use those seeds that they specially sell at the nurseries? Also which potting soil did you use? Did you make your own potting soil mix?
Supermarket melons seed will do as well....my presentation preference is the Sakata Glamour seeds. Nothing special on the potting mix , as long as enough aged compost and good drainage will do..give it a try
That is a good question...I honestly not sure will the roots last till the end of the season.. technically it should, because the same nutrient use on fergitation works extremely well. Maybe I should start experiment this. I might need to research on the AB nutrient specific for melon for hydroponics
You have to replant again...even if you lucky, chances new stem might carry the second season flowers, but the fruit quality will deteriorate significantly
14 inch diameter x 12 inch height pot. The trellis just 4 feet pole tall and I tie all it together. If you could find a longer , like 7-8 feet pole, is even better...the plant will eventually grow up to 7 feet tall before I pinch away the top.
wow your melons is so yummy to eat.. now I'm craving in seeing this videos.. your wife or children sir would really be appreciated that they would also know the value of the diff between growing by your own or depends buying in market where if you buy in market your going to buy 3rd or 4th hand fruits or vege. unlike if you have your own
I'm now addicted to your channel. Please does this cantaloupe taste nice as papaya or watermelon? How does this plant survive under the shed without sun? I don't really like cuncumber. Maybe I can give this a trial. Again can I apply egg shells on watermelon?
Egg shells is good for soil for calcium ..but is not an instant fix..the calcium dissolve very slow..but of course my soil is an ongoing process...I keep adding along the way.
Please advise. Previously when I attempted cucumber, bitter gourd and pumpkin, leaves that look more a less like melon.. it's always beimg attacked by the lady bugs I think. they kept destroying the leaves , making them looking thin and spider web liked. How should I prevent these bugs from destroying.....
Your observations are correct, those spider web indicate most likely are mites, not lady bugs. Yes, if you plant in open space and keep raining, you definitely have mites attack. Insect net might reduce the chance of attacked. even with net, mites sometime still will come. Either you use miticides or alternatively organic pesticides to overcome it.
Thank you so much for replying. I'm thrilled after watching your videos. I have started planting rock melon. I only managed to germinate 2 seedlings out of 5 seeds sown. I planted seedling in a relatively big veggie basket but I'm wondering is it because Malaysia weather nowadays doesn't have long hours of sun.. and it seems to grow quite slowly? Currently day 24 after sowing from seed, it has 8 leaves. I wish you have Facebook and I can show you the pic.. really need good advice. I put in a lot of hope since I only have 2 plants.. 1 is smaller tham the other. The center where leaf emerges for the smaller one seems to be a little "sick".. sigh. Can I know if you plant the rock Mellon under full sun or shaded? I saw in the video u kept the containers in net.
I really enjoyed your video. Can i ask why you have subdue light screen around your mellons? Is it for indirect light? Also are your mellons in direct sun?
Once you harvest a ripe melon the vine will die. Cantaloupe are strange plants, they're not good at multitasking. If you have a melon developing, subsequent female flowers won't grow into fruit. If you want to have two melons per plant, pollinate the flowers within a day or so of the same time. Then they can grow up together. Not all species of melons will slip from the vine. If yours don't slip, harvest them when the leaves start to die back.
I just harvested Tigger melons, these little beauties smelled insanely good while growing but were kind of disappointing in flavor. Not a good sweet eating melon but man that scent will fool you. Better used to make a sorbet base or with prosciutto, maybe smoothie base. They are also insanely beautiful red and yellow striped.
I feel super motivated and super relaxed! lol. Great video! have you tried to produce 2 fruits per vine? Would they do better in more direct sunshine? My plants are day 32 so I need to become decisive soon! Thanks
boost? Is very hard to advise without the seeing the actual plant. The plant will show you the signs, if there is nutrient deficiency . Also if the seedlings attacked by pests like white fly, it will cause stunted growth due to the mosaic virus. You need to check the nutrient/fertilizer given as well.
Male just a normal flower, female have a small bulb ovary behind the petals..you can distinguish it very easily. If still confuse...check out my watermelon video which show more clearly on the flower male Vs female.
sir may I know what kind of soil should I grow my melon in sacks.. im planning to grow them in sacks so I can use organic fertilizer like leaves from trees and also cocopeat. here in Cagayan North luzon we have plenty of it. and may advocate is to encourage also everyone to try them n i also grow amapalaya or biiter gourd in sacks also diff vegetables.. like sitaw or string beans. also patola and trying to grow seeds of ponkan and apples
If u plan to go for organic method, then those mixture of fully aged compost with top soil / potting mix will do great. If you want 100 percent cocopeat in sack...then the fertilizer have to be special formulated AB .You can check out the chili pepper video.ua-cam.com/video/34H1Ejrh18E/v-deo.html

@@TonysExploration Thank you soo much!!!’ 🙏🏻
I use seeds from a previously purchased grocery store melon and it worked for me every year. You can save lots of seeds for growing your own food.
Can it's trails grow on ground?
Can, sure can
Ohkk
Thanks
can i grow rock melon on aquaponic system?
That is a good question...I honestly not sure will the roots last till the end of the season.. technically it should, because the same nutrient use on fergitation works extremely well. Maybe I should start experiment this. I might need to research on the AB nutrient specific for melon for hydroponics
Hello at flowering stage, do you hand pollinate everyday for fruit set or its done only once?
I did it for a few days....just to be sure.
@@TonysExploration OK thanks man 👍👍
Nice thumbnail
What is that white cloth??
Will the plant fruit again after harvest? Or I have to replant a new one?
You have to replant again...even if you lucky, chances new stem might carry the second season flowers, but the fruit quality will deteriorate significantly
How to differentiate male to female flowers?
I would recommend you watch this watermelon video...the flowers are basically the same .ua-cam.com/video/-JCFALJeQrg/v-deo.html
What size pot did you transfer to..
5 gallon pots
How to know which one is male flower?
Male have petals only . Female have a bulb behind the petals. It is very obvious if you see it. Most of the time, the male is more than female
Can you list what you used? What size pots, what type of bars and what length?
14 inch diameter x 12 inch height pot. The trellis just 4 feet pole tall and I tie all it together. If you could find a longer , like 7-8 feet pole, is even better...the plant will eventually grow up to 7 feet tall before I pinch away the top.
@@TonysExplorationthanks a lot for this info! It’s very helpful 👍
Thank you Tony
Well done👏🏽
Thank you!
Very good! The video I have been looking for. Bookmarked and saved.
Male flower from same plant or a different plant?
From the same plant....male will be from the main stem... female will be from the side sucker stems
@@TonysExploration Thank you. Female from 8 - 11 Pinch top at 30. Got it.
wow your melons is so yummy to eat.. now I'm craving in seeing this videos.. your wife or children sir would really be appreciated that they would also know the value of the diff between growing by your own or depends buying in market where if you buy in market your going to buy 3rd or 4th hand fruits or vege. unlike if you have your own
Ya kid nowadays don't know where the crops come from....and harvesting own crops....the satisfaction is priceless
Thanks Tony
Probably I would said morning till noon is full blast sun....after that it gets blocked and become indirect sunlight
Bro this person grew them in the city. Wow!
Thank you for stopping by my channel!
How do you treat the remaining plant ? Will it continue to grow flower and fruit ? Thanks
After harvest , is the end of the season.
@@TonysExploration thank you 😊
Once you harvest a ripe melon the vine will die.
Insect net or green house?
Just insect net
@@TonysExploration is it available online?
How do you tell the difference between a male and a female flower
The female have a small bulb behind the petals....you could easily distinguish both very easily
Very cool!!! But not enough information to us the viewers.
Thanks for such detailed video.
Does it has any nice smell while growing?
No, not until when is ready for harvest
I just harvested Tigger melons, these little beauties smelled insanely good while growing but were kind of disappointing in flavor. Not a good sweet eating melon but man that scent will fool you. Better used to make a sorbet base or with prosciutto, maybe smoothie base. They are also insanely beautiful red and yellow striped.
I feel super motivated and super relaxed! lol. Great video! have you tried to produce 2 fruits per vine? Would they do better in more direct sunshine? My plants are day 32 so I need to become decisive soon! Thanks
I rarely do two per vine. If you want the big , super sweet , better to have one per vine. At least 6 hrs of light.
Hi sir I have musk melon seedlings but they grow very slow how do I boost them to grow faster please advise thank you cos I am
boost? Is very hard to advise without the seeing the actual plant. The plant will show you the signs, if there is nutrient deficiency . Also if the seedlings attacked by pests like white fly, it will cause stunted growth due to the mosaic virus. You need to check the nutrient/fertilizer given as well.
How many melons per seed should be kept please
One melon per pot , one seed per pot
Oh wow, you did amazing job 🥰
Thank you
Awesome
How do you know which is the male flower?
Male just a normal flower, female have a small bulb ovary behind the petals..you can distinguish it very easily. If still confuse...check out my watermelon video which show more clearly on the flower male Vs female.
@@TonysExploration thank you so much!
@@TonysExploration Thanks for the explanation!❤️
I like mine softer but good growing method
Thank you for stopping by my channel!
sir may I know what kind of soil should I grow my melon in sacks.. im planning to grow them in sacks so I can use organic fertilizer like leaves from trees and also cocopeat. here in Cagayan North luzon we have plenty of it. and may advocate is to encourage also everyone to try them n i also grow amapalaya or biiter gourd in sacks also diff vegetables.. like sitaw or string beans. also patola and trying to grow seeds of ponkan and apples
