LIVE tuna for bait! (I landed what eats it!!)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 25 лис 2022
- Ahoy Legends! This week I'm out fishing my local reef when I decided to try something I haven't done before. I used a live tuna for bait and I land what eats it! But first plan of attack for the day is to get some fish for the table so it's down with some baits and the ever-reliable Katchi jig! With that sorted I head off in search of something big, and I don't have to wait long!! What a surprise capture! I hope you enjoy the episode!

What are the chances of that! Another one!! Hope you enjoyed this video guys! Got some epic ones coming up!! 🍻🍻
Hi mate, are these gonna be new ones or repeats of the old ones? I know it’s the last one that you did was an old one you have the old Yamaha on the back not the Suzuki as in most modern times. But it’s alright, no need to panic I won’t tell anyone. Love you lots from Western Australia.
@@SG-Gody 😂😂😂 you must not be up to date with my videos mate! I’ve had a new Yammy for the last 6 or so months! Suzi was taken off near the start of the year, I even did a video on it! 🍻🍻
@@SammyHitzkeFishing Oh shit, sorry man I must’ve really fucked up. Anyway love your work brother. I was just trying to give you shit for the sake of giving you shit. Love your work mate.
Hey Sammy is that a new tailor Mount on the wall on top of the marlin
Might not be I might just be stupid 🍻🍺
@@SammyHitzkeFishing what was the rod? Looks nice
You are living the dream. To be able to spend time out on the open ocean and fish at the highest level is a very big blessing!
Dude! Another incredible GT, congrats! Always really nice to see the way you handle and respect the fish too. Thanks for the video!
Appreciate it mate! 🙌🙌
Another great show Sammy, you always get quality fish. Great to watch.
Thanks mate!
Excellent release on the GT, you gave him every possible chance of survival. Very nice vid.
Cheers mate 🍻🍻
Another great start on Sunday with Sammy!
Great good Sammy looks like a wonderful time can't wait for yellow season to start
Thanks mate 🍻
Wicked under water photography. Well done and great vid
Appreciate it mate! 🍻🍻
Very nice.. Great fishing trip .. and strikes sensatiin.. thanks for sharung .. good job. 👍🙏
Thanks for watching mate! Glad you enjoyed it!! 🍻🍻
Nice one Sam.
I'm always amazed at how much fish eyeball the bait before they take it. Even bloody sharks!
I can also confirm for everyone, that the snapper wings were delicious!
Dusted in wholemeal spelt flour, garlic, curry and ginger powder shallow fried.
They fed his mum and I for three meals. 😋
It was a shame the crab season is so close, those racks would have gone well on the barby too.
Cheers tez, looking forward to the frames producing a pot full 🦀 🦀
Another awesome video, livin everyones dream!!! One of the mixing blades from an electric cake mixer attached to a battery drill can be used as an easy and quick way to scale your fish.
Great stuff Sammy that footage from the line cam is awesome
Cheers mate!
Bloody~WOW~ Next level fish!
Gday Sammy, yea mate, usually 40 degrees plus by the end of october out west but its barely breakin 30 degrees. Very odd.
Nonetheless ripper video mate!
Great watch🍻🎣
Hopefully it heats up soon! 🍻🍻
Shout out to Rodney always good for a few fish!
Hahah bloody oath!
When I started commercial fishing solo in Key West, I was taught that the best way to keep your catch the most fresh as possible at the lowest temperature is to to mix salt water with your ice. 8 or more hours later, your catch will look like you just pulled it from the ocean a minute ago! Try it and then comment on it on your next video!
We call that a salt slurry here in Australia, been using them for as long as I remember, also brain spiking helps the fish retain colour, I'm not sure why but, coral trout stay vibrant when spiked before going into the slurry.....
@@MickH60 Another trick I learned when stationed in Juneau Alaska in the Coast Guard when making a salt brine for fish I was going to smoke was to add only enough salt where an uncooked egg would start to float ensuring the brine was not to salt. I did this mostly for salmon.
I’m in South Florida as well. I make the slurry, brain spike and cut the gills to bleed the fish. The meat lasts for a long time afterwards
enjoyed. Thanks 🇨🇦
Hi Sammy, isn’t listen old episode I know she got the 130 yammy on the back. I thought you had a Suzuki?
Hey mate, changed back to the Yammy 6 months ago 👌👌
great content keep it up brother tight lines
Another crackin vid, mate. Love the catchy-cam! Keep it up!
Appreciate it!
If there is one thing I hate is some fishing channels that handle big fish incorrectly and keep the fish out of the water for a long time because they cannot get enough photos. Nice going Sammy, as always 👍🏻.
Wow great fishing it so beautiful ❤❤
Thanks very much 🍻🍻
Nice Sammy ,another cracking GT on the wall mate 🤙 always a good watch mate
Thanks mate! 👌👌
Hey Sammy, when is fishing peaking? Like your presentation & especially no evil language. Ur the type id like to throw in with.
Long trip from Arizona.
Another great video Sammy. How you have not got...at least half million subscribers is bloody amazing!
Hahah not sure mate, too ugly I reckon 😂
if you scale the snapper in a fish bin of water the scales stay in the water stopping mess
thanks for taking us on your trip
Not a bad idea 👌👌
"Big bait, big fish!" Then he reels up the tiniest fish yet...lol
Hay Sammy always a good source of entertainment and tips and tricks. Thanks a lot mate and nice catch today but I wanted to spark interest in a cruise craft centre console for a nice new rig for you have a good one
Hahah thanks mate! I like the cruise crafts 👌👌
As long as you don't use coated hooks, nothing at ALL wrong with cutting them off. In the salt they will cyst/rust out in a few days. Fresh water not much longer.
Painted/coated hooks will also eventually go away, but take a lot longer. As long as it's not in a bad place, it will still be fine.
A fine grocery run with some big fish fun!
Cheers for the information, fingers crossed it rusted out quick smart and he was on his way 👌👌
Great video like always mate!🤙
Beautiful handling mate love the video
Appreciate it mate 🍻🍻
Always a cracker mate. Cheers Sammy 🍺🍻

Another great vid mate. Hey ya recipe from last week was a hit mate. Did it with spanish yesterday. Here's cheers🍻🍻🎣🎣
Glad you liked it mate!! 🙌🙌
I've caught some big jacks off of Florida (Crevalle jack, Caranx hippos), but that GT is freaking huge!
Fantastic effort to get the big fella back out in the big blue.👍
Thanks mate 🍻🍻
Awesome video and world class release on that GT there mate. Respect!
I love fast tapered rods!
Me too!
Excellent action
Thanks very much 🍻🍻
Whats the black clip on your live bait rod for when you rigged up the the livie?
Love your style💯of fishing 🎣
How cool is that Sammy! Brissy bangers, and proper ones. Hopefully you can tempt a big Mackerel or Wahoo soon, but those GT’s are definitely making sure your gear is ready! Casting gear next? 😉😂 keep up the great vids mate
Hahah casting sounds like a lot of hard work 😂😂
@@SammyHitzkeFishing Hahaha true that 😂 plus, you’d go to actually target them and wouldn’t even see one! That’s how it works usually 🤣
Small king mackerel will hit your swivel . I saw 1 hit my leaderknot while fighting a tuna, tiny bubbles attached thier eye, I believe. Cool vid thx😁👆🤙top rig for Anything, 5/0 hook ,straight nylon or mono, no leader😁🤙happy hooking get more pulls
Absolutely EPIC!! Love it Sammy! You gonna be out near straddy for any episodes soon? Would love a photo bomb opportunity hahahaha
Hahah not sure mate! Potentially!!
@@SammyHitzkeFishing this wind needs to bigger off first hahaha
Awesome stuff Sammy. Loved the underwater camera action. It's always interesting to see exactly what eats you baits and how the do it. Great GT too, well done on the release. What size/number wire do you use on you live bait rings?
Thanks John! Appreciate it mate!
I think it was 58lb wire 👌👌
great video..👍
Great video - love watching your work! Just out of interest, what sort of depth do you catch your snapper at? Seems to take an a age for Rodney to reach the bottom… 🤔
I usually fish 80-120m for the snapper mate. If there’s any current it takes a while 👌
Any chance of booking Rodney for some lessons Mate I need all the help I can get 😂😂
😂😂😂 No chance! I need him to save my ass more!
Thanks for not having a long drawn out entro. We come for fishing not chir chat. Well done.
Does the hook eventually rust and disappear?
Yep
That's where you need an xrap ready to go sammy
For what exactly mate?
Trolling for macks n pelagic's I have mine rigged with wire ready in my box lol
That a Bonita yes in the tuna family but not considered tuna at least where I’ve fished
Giant bait will produce giant fish! Except over here, here you put a giant bait and piranhas will always come first and clean your hook in minutes 😂
Hahah that’s wild!!
Great video Sammy.
I need to know where did or do you get that bcf cap of yours? That was epic shark footage. 🤙
I had it made for some competitions we fished a few years back 👍👍
You might have answered this already so I apologize for any redundancy. First, congrats on an awesome day. My question is about the slick around your boat. I noticed in some of your footage that there was some type of slick around the boat. I don’t have a boat, though I have been on plenty and I do remember some exhaust creating a small oily slick. I also saw other boats around and thought maybe it was from one of those. Just curious if that was from the boat or did you have an oily chum bag out? Anyway, very cool video. I have really enjoyed watching and learning from your experiences. Thank you.
G’day Robert, are you able let me know which time you are referring too in the video? I don’t recall seeing a slick while I was out there 🤷♂️
Another cracker of a video Sammy !
🙌🙌
Amazing video champion
At what depths were you fishing? Thanks heaps for sharing this video.
From 100m - 20m mate 👍
Snapper deep, trolling shallow 🍻🍻
Great video
Nice work mate. What size weights are you running on the Kachis.
120’s and 140’s mate 🍻🍻
@@SammyHitzkeFishing great thanks mate. I'm hanging to out once this weather goes away.
Love your shows mate, just wondering where did you get those trolling rod holders from?
They are called reelax Rod riggers 👌👌
You always seem to surprise me when you use big baits because I'm like the bait is too big
Hahah even I was thinking it was a bit big but I though May as well give it a try 💁♂️
It’s all relative. Big fish eat little fish and there are absolute sea monsters in our oceans!
The wahoo have to show up soon!
Fingers crossed!
Sure beats my 230mm catfish from Yeppoon
What model live fiber rod were you using? On the overhead with the gold silver reel seat
That’s a wilson texallium RLFTX18 8ft trolling rod. Great rods 👌👌
Sammy why do you scale you’re fish before filleting? Or do you eat the skin?
Yummy dinner there mate. What size hooks are you using on the octo-jig (catchy-jig)? I got mine (Docan) straightened on a Tusky recently (and lost:()
I just use the hooks that come with them 💁♂️ they are a bit small but seem to work 👌
Nice fight but... You used a fish that's edible to catch one that isn't,gaffed a fish you planned on releasing and left treble hooks in it's gut.
That's why I don't like bait fishing or trebles.
Especially multiple trebles.
West coast I used to use one good sharp hook either through the chin and nose or rarely the back. Circle hooks weren't around but I hear they work great.
Lures don't seem to get swallowed so deep especially if you set on the strike.
Bait you wait.
They say hooks rust out in the stomach acid but it's gotta suck. Food can't get past a treble.
If it wasn't a shark I'd reach in. If it's bad gut hooked or tears the gills it's a goner. Use it for cut bait.
I got sick of trebles after eyehooking several great fish. If you ever had to deal with this it's sad. Even if you are catching mostly keepers for eating there's no telling what may get caught.
Even clean releases were getting gobbled by seals and birds and they're all the undersized, out of season or endangered fish.
Sometimes I used a treble till I caught the first fish. Then stop give thanks and switch to a single. Take off the lucky lure that's working and try the one I've never used before.
I was slaying it and feeling sorry for the fish so I benched myself. Plus fishing offshore alone is dangerous hard work and expensive.
Watching you putting on the belt while the rod is slammed and the drag is screaming got me all twitchy. You were smooth and used the safety lanyard too.
Nice lip gaff. I never thought of that. Always tried to keep the gaff away from the line.
Used the gaff for keepers and a big net or tail grab for the lucky ones.
Real big toothy fish we did cut off for safety.
Seen some teams use a canvas stretcher also marine mammal rescue uses them.
Once we were fishing the bay with frozen shrimp for catch and release fish and after a day of constant action had no bait and no keepers.
I joked that we should've thrown lures and cooked the bait.
G'day Sammy
Just wondering what the outfit/accessories are on the gopro headmount?
Is that the media mod?
Nice GT 🤙🏻
Thanks mate! 🍻
Are GT's good to eat? We dont have them in Florida. Grouper are tons of fun to catch. We have the Goliath grouper that can weight in the hundreds of pounds.
Gts are ok but when they are about 80cm they either get really nice from lots of body fat or really fishy from the muscle on some of them mostly fishy tho
Hey Sammy when are you going to do another red emperor trip with the bats boys
Sammy! Where's your solo sailfish off the local? Time is running out...
I know mate! I haven’t forgotten 😬😬
@@SammyHitzkeFishing can not wait to see this one. Fingers crossed for you. I might see you out there on the troll ;)
Where can I buy the filleting set you have.? Another great vid. Look forward to seeing what your up to.
You should be able to find the full Swibo range online mate 👍👍
@@SammyHitzkeFishing should start expanding your shop.
Again, well done champion on the release. Top stuff episode
Thanks guys!
hey bro, anoither cracking vid🤙 just wondering, what is your go to knife sharpening method?
Hey mate, I use a steel before each fillet up. And then hit them on a whetstone grinder every 6 months of so 👌👌
Stick to circle hooks mate, trebles are the last hooks you wanna use. They might be able to get J hooks out naturally but there's no change with trebles.
Unfortunately circle hooks aren’t very effective for my target species (mackerel and wahoo). The GT was very much an unintentional bycatch
Love the video mate. What’s the soft plastic you where using
Kachi kachi jig mate 🍻🍻
Hi Sam.. noticed the downrigger.. what type is it mate?
It’s an old school Cannon I borrowed mate 👌
Leave some fish for us champ, you fishing in brisbane or closer to noosa.
😂😂 plenty still out there. I fish all over the shop mate. North and south 👍👍
Those rod holders on the side of your boat, where did you get them from?
They are called Reelax multi mount rod riggers. Can get them online or in shops 👍
@@SammyHitzkeFishing thanks man👌
Was that trev used as live bait? Do they make good live baits?
It was all I could get mate! Much prefer scad or slimey mackerel but desperate times call for desperate measures!
Was the seoxne fish legal? I thought you said 45!
Legal size for a pearl perch is 38cm. This fish was 44cm 👍 I just generally prefer to keep them over 45cm which is what I said in the video 🍻🍻
The water is really dearty... oil or something 18:52
Mate you catch fish like I catch women good size & you never know what you’re going to bring home
Good one 😂🤣😂
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 love it!
Nice. That's all I have to say.
Are GT's good on the plate?
Not really unfortunately, much better as a sport fish not a tablefish 👌
Hi , did you lost some serious amount of pounds ?.. Looks good 😎👍
Hahah not that I know of but thanks!
Hey Sammy just out of curiosity what is that beer you love called???
It’s by Your Mates brewing co. My favorite is a ‘Macca’
If you're going to be releasing the fish you may want to avoid treble hook stinger rigs. Unfortunately that is a dead fish. It is a myth that hooks rust away quickly in sale water.
I wasn’t chasing GT’s. I was targeting mackerel and wahoo which require the stinger rigs and weren’t going to be released 👍
I don't know brother just a bit of repartition you know, no don't think you do. Love fishing not just catching.
Sorry mate I don’t quite follow your comment? What did you mean?
@@SammyHitzkeFishing just catching no story just catching
@@turbolife5912 I disagree mate, most of my videos have a story line, this one included. But, everyone has different opinions and tastes. My videos aren’t for everyone. Appreciate the feedback though 🍻
Sooooooo second mount ? Haha 😂
Hahah 1’s definitely enough for the GT’s 😂
Why not circle hooks?
They don’t work very well for my target species of mackerel or wahoo. The GT was unintentional bycatch
Bloody Wallyleys, at least you didnt lose $100 lures chasing the back breakers
😂😂😂 gotta work smarter not harder don’t ya!
@@SammyHitzkeFishing for sure, at least you didnt cast a heavy lure a thousand times with locked drag to catch that VW bonnet 🤪
