Crazy. Capps described the aura of AA Fuel Alterds perfectly. When I was in high school I watched The Mob at OCIR get completely sideways 1/3 down the track, made a total of 3 On Off throttle sideways corrections and just put his foot full throttle down again for a full pass. The guys are nuts. Now Capps is nuts too.
Thanks Ron for bring up Wild Willy, when I think of Alters I think of Wild Willy with his arm hanging out of the window coming out if a cloud of smoke.
Reminds me of the early 70s at Detroit Dragway watching Wild Willy Borsch. I loved watching the cars dance around on that track and remember there was no traction back then. Pure excitement, especially at night . Standing behind the cars watching the flames dance back and forth down the track after the initial blast hit you head on when they took off. Can't forget the echo that followed the burnouts and after shut down . Awesome.
Edward Chascsa DETROIT DRAGWAY !!! SIBLEY AT DIX !!!!! 😎😎😎😎😄😄😄😄 been there !!!! Remember a AA/FA. I. Saw at tri city DRAGWAY called ALTERED EGO !!!! 😎😎😎😎
Glad to see these cars make a comeback always were one of my fav. cars,Back in the day the were involved in many crashes,And were banded out of racing, lot's of drivers were hurt and killed in these Altered's.But were very exciting to watch.Like strapping on to A Wild Angery Bull,Jumping, bucking, snorting, and trying to throw you off at 200mph+....what a ride, i'm in...i wish...LOVE IT, good to see them back in action!!!
Ron, are you crazy? I love you ! I grew up building those models during the week, and going to Orange County every Friday Night ! Real Men entered the Altered Class ! ILY (born in 1965... OCIR in '69.) You rock🎸
A fellow local 12 crane operator i worked with for alot of years said he used to race fuel altered cars.he just passed away and his name was Tom ferraro.he was bad ass crane operator and from doing some research he was a bad ass race car driver..Rip tom ferraro 💪
I was a kid, Pamona, Winternationals maybe, can’t remember the year... an altered, could’ve been Mike Sullivan, went past the shutoff area, through the fence, across the Blvd and ended up on the golf course.
I suspect the shock factor for Ron driving a AA/FA car, isn’t near that of a FA driver getting into Ron’s funny car. Both are a fantasy of any true fan of drag racing. Great video !
Can only imagine how hairy one of these must be to drive! Watched a video on 1320 UA-cam the other day in which they featured a 1970’s Datsun 210 that runs small tire no prep with nitrous LS. Car has a 91” wheelbase (yes 91”!) and cuts 1.0’s 60’s which is not far behind these cars to the 60! Nuts!
Fuel Altereds are an exciting and unpredictable class. Watch this vid for how unpredictable they can be, video shot at Meremere Dragway in NZ. ua-cam.com/video/N9bq-F6T7o4/v-deo.html

Good job Ronald. Not only did you fulfill a dream, you won the damn thing in the baddest machine man has ever created.
WOW! GREAT interview and so glad for Ron that he got to live his dream. I still wish the NHRA ran Fuel Altereds. SO HELP ME!
Love fuel altereds! Awesome to see a cool dude like Capps driving one. 👍🏻
The best guy in nhra!
Unpredictable as a Top Fuel Motorcycles. They are both awesome and put on the best shows. Thanks Ron...
I wish they would televise more of these as/fa and nostalgic funny car events. It’s so cool watching these videos!
Altered's are , and have always been, the real deal
When You Said "Wild Willie" I knew I was HOME.........Like You Ron, I Loved Lions and Irwindale and OCIR as a Kid.............
Used to see Willy one handing the wheel at times...they used to say it was because he’d drive with one and hang on with the other.
Ron Capps is a badass
AA/FAs alway my favorites to watch also, give Mr Capps a gold plated Man Card

There is a local at my track that has a alcohol version of this in an Anglea. So cool to see him go 200mph.

Man I used to love seeing pictures of the AA/FA, the only time I saw one on the tack they were having fuel problems and were unable to make a pass
Fuel Altereds Forever, baddest, meanest, evilest entertainment on 4 wheels. Long live the Topolino.
I suspect the shock factor for Ron driving a AA/FA car, isn’t near that of a FA driver getting into Ron’s funny car. Both are a fantasy of any true fan of drag racing. Great video !

I used to have a poster on my BR wall when I was s kid back in late 60’s of a fuel altered doing a fire burnout. Totally bitchin.
