The top fuel altereds were the real deal, and never knew why they were not part of the NHRA circuit on tour as the dragsters, funny cars and pro stock classes. It takes a veteran driver to control these monsters and it would be beneficial to put them on tour again because everybody loves them.
Can hardly wait. Haven't been to a fuelk car race since 1980 and I am so stoked! My Son now lives in Boise, he and his wife have never experienced this, we with our wives will be at NightFire 2019! WOW!
I watched altereds race at Green Valley in the early 60s. Somehow it never occurred to me before today, that the altered was the funny car of drag racing before there were funny cars.
I love this class of drag racing ! Some of the best looking, true “hot rods” on the strip ! Our local track featured a pair of stock, 6-cyl Ford Econoline Vans, that had an ET of about 20 min. That was followed by an exciting matchup between a Chrysler LeBaron vs a Mercury Sable Wagon, both stock and complete with umbrellas and stuffed toys in the back window. One even appeared to have a child’s car seat strapped in the back. All the latest in racing equipment. That was my last outing to the track. 😁🇺🇸
I use to sneak into the races in the trunk of a car because I didn’t have the money for admission. Today kids sit in coffee shops staring at lap tops and think that’s freedom. Oh well.
The present day equivalent of the booked in funnycar shows of the 1970's. A circuit should be organized where these tour combined with nitro burning Top Fuel motorcycles that NHRA does not include in their T/F bike class. That is, every brand except H.D. Could even include mountain motor Pro Stock door slammers with hood scoops and carbs if the team chooses to and maybe mix in some Top Sportsman blower cars. Door slammers like the old "Wild Bunch" that ran in the southeast primarily.
Aa/fa today, hooray,!!hope they get their eliminator classification back,!!? Anyone remember/have images of 70's boggs bros. As/fa. doing a airborne barrel roll and continue to finish the run??? Photos appeared in drag racing USA mag. Mid 70's???. / images of r/e fuel altereds ??? Give me a hoot will u????
Is it me, or do these times seem slow? I would expect that fuel altereds would be running quicker than their counterparts in the 1970's. Perhaps there are restrictions (fuel pump flow, mag number, sc overdrive, etc) ? I haven't followed this for a long time so perhaps someone can clue me in! Other than this, I love these and hated when they stopped appearing in NHRA events back in the day.
At an altitude of 2800ft, times fall off a lot! Ever watched a replay of the now closed Bandimere Speedway in Denver? Thin air=slower speeds and poorer elapsed times.
The most important part of the whole video is the woman who wear thigh high boots while she runs back with the car to guide it back into the burnout tracks.
Some the newer cars here with the longer wheelbases, swoopy bodies and big wings are not true to the original AA/FA cars. They are nothing more than modern “nostalgia” funny cars with altered bodies instead of the funny car bodies. They are nothing like the original AA/FA cars.
To be honest it appears ALL of the cars have extended wheelbases (same as funny cars) over the original cars. They LOOK like original AA/FA but are substantially different and way more stable than the original cars.
What are those things in mini skirts and go-go boots? Track groupies? The last time I saw anything like that I was still driving over the road and they were at every truck stop parking lot, they were called "lot lizards" and I sure didn't know business was so bad that they were working the local race track too.
That's really corny having those chicks run out on the track to guide the drivers when backing up. There are some things you can't recreate like in the past.
I ran a BB/GS 41 steel body Willys back in the ‘70’s. Memories.
I grew up loving altereds. My dad drove them for years. Great vid!
It’s quarter mile! Hallelujah!!
First thing I was wondering .
Fuel altered forever🤗

Outlaw 1973
Love fuel altered .
No worry on times (6 something at 200+ is fine)
Just give me the noise, header flames and a bucking bronco out of the gates.
Thanks for the memories!
The true hot rods of drag racing.
Can hardly wait. Haven't been to a fuelk car race since 1980 and I am so stoked! My Son now lives in Boise, he and his wife have never experienced this, we with our wives will be at NightFire 2019! WOW!
all hail the back up ladies ,, love it from a era long gone,,, well done ladies and running with high heels ???wow
On a sticky track yet

They hiss and they really do thunder dowm that 1/4 mile which is fantastic.Good to see it 1/4 mile too like we do in the Uk as well (santapod )
Loved this class back in the day when I was a kid. They were very often the fastest cars on the track. The Fiat bodies seemed to be the most popular.

Thanks for putting these videos up! I'm new to Boise and Saturday will be my first time to Firebird
Fuel altereds forever!!
What a wonderfully smooth track ! Wow !
I use to sneak into the races in the trunk of a car because I didn’t have the money for admission. Today kids sit in coffee shops staring at lap tops and think that’s freedom. Oh well.
We did that in the uk as kids too!.They check in the back of your car nowadays.
That’s so funny. I’ve done my share of treks over hills and thru the desert for free admission to motorsports venues.
D Charger Yep, one had a pasture with a creek and a couple of rodeo bulls that would give chase. Had to jump creek and out run the bull. LOL
We used to ride our bicycles to the winternationals Pomona when I was in elementary school. With my dad's okay
Keith's back-up girl looks amazing as she backs up her driver.
USA vs Australia and New Zealand in September at Sydney international drag way , can not wait!!!!!! , loved the video.
Talk about Controlled Chaos!! Wow!
Those altered machines are insanely looking!
Damn,I love these things !!!

Great Job Chuck!!!
Love that altered stuff
Spend my time caring for me, and mine...
Awesome , Thanks
I noticed that when Bryan is backing up, his back up girl meets him halfway to the starting line.
Balls of steel. End of story.
Was this qualifying? -nobody there?
What a beast to handle,,
Nice to see that lady in the first race doing the Jungle Pam thing.
Almost forgot what a 1/4 mile looks likes😁
Love the old Fiat bodies
Ofaa.net. Altered circuit in Texas. Great shows!
These cars are so frightening to race. One little mistake and its chaos unleashed.

Firebird raceway AZ....changed name to Wild Horse Pass... is now gone, They tore it up to put a on off ramp
This is in Idaho!
Yeah, quarter mile drags. That's what I grew up with. No 1/8 mile drags for me!
Or 1000 ft ones.....
In the near future it will be measured down to 60 foot times.
Nothing like leaning the camera right into a shot of nitro-balching zoomies and catchin' a snootful!!!
nice wiggle ! 14:00 LOL !
Not firebird in Phoenix,AZ
Nope, although it may be a namesake, this Firebird is in Idaho!! Home of the BSU Broncos!!
Jesus, looks like he got the death wobble on the burnout at 5:05
Talk about death wobble.....13:41.....same car.
No.1 Needs a bit more caster in the front end maybe?
Yeah, they need to adjust for the weight of the big brass ones in the seat.
Dangerous .. Should have been outlawed after the first pass ..
When Dan backs up, his back-up girl has to scamper to get him back.
This is not firebird, I worked on the timing tower back when it was built!!??
Sorry, but it is Firebird Raceway in Boise, Idaho!
Hate the tall wings on AA/FA!!
Fuel altered should not have rear wings

Low 6 high 5 is fast as fuck and WAY faster than they went in the 60's

You moron ..

The old Bantams

Theyre back up girls, all part of the glamour of racing from years gone by.
0
Yawn- 2 minutes of burnout, backup, and staging and a 6 second poorly shot race byebye
you sir obviously dont GET IT
There is always someone.....he probably finds fault in everything!!
That's really corny having those chicks run out on the track to guide the drivers when backing up. There are some things you can't recreate like in the past.
Yes but hot chicks will always be hot chicks.
Slow...!
AA/FA have got to be my favorite cars to watch, because you dont know what will happen
Yeah the pucker factor is what it's all about. Not like a top fuel NASA launch, not that those don't have pucker factor either.
