She blazed a mighty big comeback for an instrument all but forgotten until she got her hands on it… then no stopping her influence of greatness on its rebirth.
If you wish to hear Mme Landowska's Pleyel harpsichord being played with up-to-date recording equipment with the accompanying lecture, search 'Skip Sempe, Library of Congress'. It is most informative and enlightening. She could be very unyielding; to Pablo Casals no less, she once said "You play Bach your way, I'll play him his way."
I star listening Landowska al 12 years old.She used to play a Pleyel built for her (cembalo temperament). She also was a very fine pianist.I think Scott Ross could be compared with her.
For a while, I have enjoyed Angela Hewitt's recordings of Couperin on piano. The works are probably prettier, more elegant, played here for the original harpsichord. Love the passacaille.
She explores the different sounds or registers of the instrument. The "pizzicato sound" in harpsichord is reducing the possibility of the instrument to nought. What is the use of it?
Well... I understand the historical importance of this, but... both the sound and the interpretation... for me, just for historical interest. Do not touch me emotionally at all, unlike Scott Ross and several others.

Interesting. Have you heard her interpretation of Bach’s Italian Concerto? I find the modern harpsichordists to be a bit dry.
