I'm a black man from America, and also a musician. I got first turned on to level 42 in the early 80's. But when I saw they're video for the first time, I didn't know that they were from England!! To me, it doesn't matter what nationality you are. If the music sounds good and you're grooving, f***k color and ethnicity. We all jamming! One of my favorite groups . Music is music. Mozart wrote and performed some of the most beautiful arrangements over 300 years ago that are still enjoyed to this day.
This comment deserves a reply in my book. Completely agree with all of your comments. And as a musician you need to go check out their back catalogue. There is is some very funky stuff to be enjoyed. I have seen them 3 or 4 times and I know they deserved to be bigger in the states than they were/are. Anyway Merry christmas to you and your family.
Mark and Mike looked like they were having a blast with this one. I can see how they were so close. Getting paid to play music with your best friend must be surreal.
Filmed Nov 27, 1987 in Paris. 37 years ago. The video of the song was the first of Level 42's career not to feature the brothers Phil and Boon Gould, who had recently left the band. The girl - Barbara - is around 50 now!
Same here since I heard it teh first time Level 42 u til now theyre on my play list...I was just a 80s kid back then but they grabbed like in a stone, in my brain and memories.
I saw level 42 live at Halloween They were fantastic. Mark Kings bass playing is incredible, and children say is definitely one of their best but most underrated songs.
This is one of their many great songs that should have gotten a lot more radio and press appeal. It’s a deeper song than most will realize and quality is timeless!
Is Barbara Mike's daughter? I've always wondered this. This song hits me so emotionally because of the masterful arrangement, virtuoso performance and meaningful lyrics. It seems that the 1980s was a once in a lifetime period of truly amazing music.
I feel lucky to have grown up in the 80's, to relive my experiences through songs like this and remember exactly what i was doing when loading the cassette into the car stereo. To think this music still stands the test of time is incredible. Level 42 ❤
One of the most beautiful songs ever written, just listen to those words , masterpiece ! To hear that voice do what it does to those words, again, masterpiece ! LOVE ❤ this song and it's singer . ❤❤❤❤
Level 42's music has aged like a fine malt. There was a lot of great music about in 1987 but you would have thought this would have reached higher than 22 in the UK chart. Still, the song has stood and will stand the test of time.
Musically speaking, how was that compared to today's music? Something like Beethoven Bach or Mozart…I miss good music playing in the streets, on the radio or elsewhere. We were so lucky to experienced the 80’s…thank you and teşekkürler ❤️
Man I remember when I saw this great group in the NYC with my GF of the time, we waited in line to get in the club for over an hour to standing room only, but it was well worth it. What a performance! man I tell you they don't make music like this or bands like this anymore!
En 1987 un amigo en su cuarto puso esta canción en vinilo. Nunca la olvide y hoy revienta acá. Children say , Paris 1985 ... si sobrevivimos a la pandemia, después esta canción es una fiesta...
I feel bad for millennials and Gen z. They didn’t experience music before the corporatocracy. There was joy and sincerity in music that I mostly don’t hear anymore. Maybe once we dismantle our consumer slavery something like this can rise again.

I keep to myself
What I might share with others
But they don't seem to understand
I open my mouth to rediscover
That I don't have the words at my command
Holding out for a world so much better
But I'm a stranger in a stranger's land
All my friends have sold out
Couldn't handle the pressure
Counting their blessings trying to salvage what they can
Children say - children say
We open our minds as one
But one more day - slips away
Why don't the dreams of the young never come to be
When I overhear my parents conversations
Well I'm struck by the things they say
It seems they traded the years for mere complications
Who ever thought it could end this way
They close the door but they can't lock it
'Cause something of their childhood remains and they've felt it before
When the man in their pocket
Counted the cost of their material gains
Children say - come what may
Be strong for the friends you've known
But one fine day - (not) far away
Will we remember the love we used to own
Children say - children say
We open our minds as one
As one more day slips away
Why don't the dreams of the young never come to be
Well you knew what I was saying
But did you know what it meant
When you saw that look in my eye
Did you know it was heaven sent
Was it all a waking dream
All that time we must have spent
Well I guess it must have been
Somehow that feeling came and went
Children say - come what may
Be strong for the friends you've known
But one fine day - (not) far away
Will we remember the love we used to own
Children say - children say
We open our minds as one
As one more day - slips away
Why don't the dreams of the young never come to be
Children say - children say
We thought it would never go
As one more day - slips away
Who ever thought we could be so lonely
And pinned ❤️
i realize it's quite randomly asking but does anyone know of a good site to stream new series online?
@Titus Gage I watch on flixzone. You can find it by googling =)
I think they're the best lyrics he's ever written, personally.
It's the coolest vid they ever made

Criminally underrated band.
I miss the eighties, these were times of good music and optimism.
Love this band and in particular this music and video. I'm glad that had HD treatment. Thank you for posting.
One of those tracks that I never get bored of listening to. 💓🙏🏽

Such a beautiful song, it hits me every time I hear it....and it's been doing that for 35 years now.
It makes me feel 35, half my age, and want to run out and do what I used to do back then. lol

42's second best of all time right behind Something About You!
What a sound these guys had , one of the best bands ever and Mike still has a great solo career.
Level 42 at their best…..superb track👍🇮🇲🤘
I went to see them at Hammersmith earlier this month.
Criminally underrated band.
Got into these guys back in the early 80’s, went to see them at the Hammersmith Odeon supported by Wang Chung. Great night.
Wow, as much as I've loved this song, this is the first time I've ever seen the video. Song takes me back fr.
This is one of their many great songs that should have gotten a lot more radio and press appeal. It’s a deeper song than most will realize and quality is timeless!
I love the energy and happiness they express in this video. The melody is so good and I’ve always enjoyed the contrast between Mark and Mike’s voices.
Absolutely beautiful song. A breath of fresh air then and now in these trying times.
Born in the 2000's but never too late to love Level 42
A great song that will remain timeless
Is Barbara Mike's daughter? I've always wondered this.

Quanta nostalgia. Non riesco a capire perché non ci siano più band così ...

There best song they have at least 15 songs or more that are good.

This one is probably the most playful music video from level 42. Really love to see Mark King & Mike Lindup in this video.
Para mí simplemente los mejores!!! únicos e irrepetibles ❤
