I'm glad you noticed the stoked kid!

I remember when Pastrana was the Tony Hawk of MX freestyle. (though personally I think Brian Deegan set the stage for Pastrana's success) They're both great professionals and have done a lot for their respective sports but Tony and he kept this stigma around them due to their wild success stories. Tony Hawk suffered through a few rough patches in the 80s and 90s. In the 80s he was seen as this blonde, lanky golden boy without any edge. In the 90s he was seen as... to put it gently... the Danny Tanner (Full House) of skateboarding. Travis came up in MX seemingly out of nowhere. While he had the ability, he too like Tony Hawk, seemed to be without edge.... but, we all know about Nitro Circus and we all know that Pastrana is no joke in his sport.
wait, pastrana was known as a little timmy with "no edge" same as hawk? damn thats crazy for tony makes sense since being a vert skater had obviously less street cred than being a street skater, but i never thought pastrana was seen the same way pastrana had nitro circus that everyone saw him for the crazy he was, same with tony hawk that let the years go by and now at the age of 50 he still is one of the best transition skaters alive which is insane considering he skates on fucking 10 meter high vert ramps
Gymkhana is like a cross of drifting and rally, some speed parts, lots of style through the curves, and lots of creativity in putting your route together.

My buddy and I are trying to organize a gymkhana grid style event with drifters. In gymkhana grid there is a rwd class. So I think drifters would be down for something like this. More as a fun event to test precission driving skills.
Dont know if anyone brought it up but the spoiler wing is actually sperate than the hand brake, its a switch. It's to create extra downforace to keep the car from coming off the ground at high speeds. They use it in the same WRX STI that was used in Isle of man world record lap. Mark Higgins explains it as he goes over the lap.
Came here to say this. He started rally racing when his knees, back, and neck started going south on him. It might be more than 10 years at this point because I seem to remember him not only doing the rally cross circuit, but im pretty sure he was still doing boom boom huck jam stuff when he started. Although the last 3 years he's become a very serious competitor. This season, he's been just mauling everyone. Not that it should surprise anyone, last dude I saw with his level of dedication was Taylor Faust
Ever since I drove my first impreza, I've always said, the only real difference you'll get between 4WD and RWD is 4WD is going 30mph faster to get the slide. RWD is way more flamboyant, great for drifts, but if you want to get places, and get there fast, it's gotta be all four wheels driven.
Pastrana got into pro rally back in 2005 so he’s not really new to the car scene but yeah it still feels like he is even to me since I remember seeing him more on the bike 🤙
I was talking to some of the Vermont Sportscar guys this summer (they prepared that car), and they said that he only did that 150mph jump once and that it didn't go as planned. If you look he knuckles the landing pretty badly. He was supposed to go another 20 or so feet, but the aero even with the reduction of the wing was better than they expected and brought the car down early. Apparently Travis was like... "you know, I am good with that one"
I watched some vids on the making and trav was sketched cause it was a new driving styleto him like controlled on the edge. I was waiting for you to notice his face in the video lookin spooked😂😂

Brz is driven by scott speed. Common mis-conception I've seen made in a few reaction/breakdown videos at 6:50 the 150mph straight away does not end in the hill jump. The speed scene is recorded about 5 miles from the hill jump. I frequently drive all the back roads shown in the video, since I live in the area.
I have been a big fan of the gymkhana series for a while now, Ken Block is a beast, Travis has some catching up to do. I also enjoy the climekhana videos. The dock drop is a call back to Ken doing it in an earlier Gymkhana.
with regards to drifting verses gymkhana, I'd say it's more like different disciplines of the same sport, like playing running back verses tight end or wide receiver in american football, the skill sets overlap but they focus on different aspects of them.
I agree drifting and gymkhana are definitely different. Formula Drift theres usually a chase and lead car and they're graded on form. Gymkhana is more Rally based driving and usually only includes one car they're as well graded on form but speed as well.
