Yes, anything you can make so you don’t have to paint constantly is a great thing! No rotting wood being in contact with soil either! Good stuff!

Maybe it’s overkill but I believe Azek suggests all stainless fasteners with PVC. PVC is corrosive over time. Love the look of your boxes and plan on building some for our house!

Outstanding build Jake! I don’t think you over built at all because once you add the weight of whatever soil is inside, you’ll be confident it will hold. If folks are concerned about weight or switching up the contents through seasons, I’ve put short blocks inside and made second bottoms that can be layered in florist foam block and treatments stuck into the foam. If one goes soil, perhaps a couple drain holes in the bottom would be helpful. That material can also be painted OR, my wife has these craft machines in her craft room that she makes vinyl overlays to accent it. I don’t have a clue how she does it…I think it’s some cricket machine thing or something. I don’t know…she’s got as many tools in her craft room as I do in my workshop! Okay, maybe not…but it sure seems like it!😁🤣
Oh, and I use a pin nailer for trim out…any tiny hole can be covered with a touch of paint…she does that with some kind of paint pen? 🤷🏻‍♂️
So, for the guys in your growing audience who are short on projects 🤣, share this on your wife’s Facebook page and you’ll be busy again real soon!!😁👊🏻
    Thanks for sharing Jake!!

Thanks, Keith! I did end up drilling a few holes in the bottom and putting filter fabric in to keep the potting mix in place. Vinyl overlay would be a fun idea! I was originally going to use brad nails to stick it all together, but couldn't find any that were galvanized and wanted to stay away from rust!

Thank you for this video! Looking for good ways to add window boxes that don't rot, good for flowers and/or herbs, and do not cost upwards of $150.00-$200.00 per window for 42" width. Would love to see how they ended up looking on your home and to know if they are paintable or if it is not recommended. Overall very helpful!

Glad I could help you out! We ended up just leaving ours white. The PVC is paintable, but we haven’t tried it. I’ll try and do an update video soon on how they’re looking now. Thanks for watching!

Beautiful job!! They look great and should last forever. In reading Keith’s comment does sell galvanized 18g Brad nails in various sizes but I’m sure once that glue sets up it won’t be coming apart if it’s anything like PVC plumbing pipe. How are you going to mount them to your home?

I’m sorry, should have read “Lowes does sell galvanized….”

Thanks, Bob! I know they sell them, I just couldn't find them anywhere. Searched high and low. And you can't ask anybody anything there... they have no clue what you're talking about!
