I like window boxes. It allows you to look through plants/flowers when looking outside. At the three-min mark, you can see the wood grain. Notice that the grain is cupped the same direction. Flip the top board over. Then, each piece will keep the other from warping. Securing to the house first was smart. Makes the job much easier.
Great advice! Thank you so much for sharing that I will always be looking at that now in the future, never thought to look at that before, thank you so much!
Great Tutorial! You could line the inside of the box with a piece of pond liner in order to make them last longer. This prevents the wood from rotting. Just staple the liner to the wood on the inside of the Box. I did that in all my raised beds and they have lastet many years longer.
Thank you! And thank you so much for the info on the pond liner, I will definitely go and pick some of that up and use that in future projects. Thank you so much for that!
Great video & instructions Jason, appreciate it. Love the channel & videos . Use to live in Beloit when I was coaching in the minor leagues for the Milwaukee Brewers , didn’t warm up until June there lol 👍😱⚾️. Wishing you & your family continued success & all the best as well.
Yes absolutely, the only reason I didn’t is because I did not have any on hand and wanted to get them built but that is definitely an even better way to do it
Nice job and detailed instructions, Jason! 💪 I'm curious as to the weight of these boxes .. before the soil and plants ofcourse . Your a great catch and family man . 💯%. Thank you!
AWESOME. AWESOME VIDEO!!! Thank you for the great details. I find that Window boxes on the market are too shallow and doesn’t give me the depth I’m after to get the results you guys have. I’m a new fan and love your channel!
I’m doing this with a window on the side of my house! I’m just lagging behind this year lol. I love the wooden brackets? I guess that’s what you’d call them. They’re so pretty! Great video!
Thank you! It’s funny they are actually made out of a hardened Styrofoam, they are made by a company called fypon, They have a woodgrain look and you can stain them any color
No I thought you would plant it up with us!!!!! I was really waiting for that, however, it looks so lovely, well done. I really like this, my wall is build from brick so putting up a window box is not so simple for me. I'm doing my research though, I really want to figure it out. Nice stain as well!
No we didn’t plant our big ones, we were talking about our small little ones in the courtyard. We just planted up our big ones and we will be sharing it in video soon! Just got done filming it
You make it look so easy. I. Was thinking about the holes at the bottom. Do not want water stuck at the bottom. I caught the end of your live chat last eveming. Jason pine is quite a soft wood i thought.. Lovely new window Boxes.. Casey do you know your colour scheme and what you are putting in them . Lots of love from England. ❤❤❤❤🌻🦋🐞🌼
Would lining the wooden box with heavy-duty plastic (of course with holes lining up with the wood holes) help preserve the life of the wood or possibly hold moisture? Also, can pressure treated wood be used or would that damage the plants? TY for the video as always! 😊
Had to watch again, just watched your 2021 recipe, I haven't done any widow boxes, but I think this will be nice to put around the deck👍😀 (its not that big, about 10 x 10)
Yes you couldn’t go wrong doing that, the only reason I didn’t was because of the weight of the entire box, but the way I built it it was already pretty heavy to wear adding another board on the bottom would’ve probably been fine. I did cut two pieces of the 1 by 12, And fasten them to the underneath of the box so that it will support that bottom piece
Yes you are right, I totally would’ve but I did not have any at the time and I wanted to get them built right away but that would definitely be even a better way to do it

This tutorial was so helpful. You do a much better job of explaining this simply and thoroughly than any of the other videos I’ve watched!
excellent directions. very easy to follow all steps. thank you Jason
Awesome so happy you found it easy to follow!

Bed maker turned box maker. I love it, great idea using double boards. Thanks
😂 That’s right!, Thank you!
Jason is ALWAYS so good at explaining things! Thank you!
This video was excellent! Such great instructions!

Great tutorial! I can't wait to start working on this DIY project with my husband. Thanks for sharing!
You've done a good job.
Thank you!
Nice box , question would it help to glue the pieces together , for extra support then screw the boards
Yes absolutely, the only reason I didn’t is because I did not have any on hand and wanted to get them built but that is definitely an even better way to do it

Great tutorial!

Thank you so much, so happy you found us Suzi! You were totally right most boxes are too shallow, having them nice and deep allows for great results!

The Lawrence Garden Farm oh wow!! I’ll have to look into that! They look like real wood! ❤️
Great job. They should last for years.
Thank you! I’m hoping so!

I feel like I might need a couple of angle brackets to secure the bottom to the front + back.
AH, you do mention a metal strap!
Im motivated. Thks !
Awesome good to hear!
Thank you for this!! So helpful!! What are the two pieces under the box?

Thank you! Definitely have to have those holes for water drainage, yes pine is a soft wood But it does OK outdoors
Would lining the wooden box with heavy-duty plastic (of course with holes lining up with the wood holes) help preserve the life of the wood or possibly hold moisture? Also, can pressure treated wood be used or would that damage the plants? TY for the video as always! 😊
All of those would be great options and additions!
Fantastick work, those are strong!👒📹🎑💞😍
Thank you!!

Since you’ve built these flower boxes, is there anything different you would do?
I need One 😍😍😍😍
I wish you had shown how you attach the other window box to the bricks.
I do at the exact same way except our use a masonry drill bit and masonry leg screws, besides that everything else is the same
Shouldn’t you have doubled up the bottom of the box for extra security? You did say it may rot with constant use. Looking from Trinidad and Tobago.
Yes you couldn’t go wrong doing that, the only reason I didn’t was because of the weight of the entire box, but the way I built it it was already pretty heavy to wear adding another board on the bottom would’ve probably been fine. With all that weight you need some supports under the bottom otherwise good looking box
What if I have vinyl siding?
Might be good to put glue between.
Yes you are right, I totally would’ve but I did not have any at the time and I wanted to get them built right away but that would definitely be even a better way to do it
❤
Thank you Shawna!
不错嘛,但承重可以吗?
Woodglut has a very large project base.
That will rot easily
