There was always a well known person appearing to give a concert there and we always went to the orchestral concerts every week. Happy Days. I wish I could live those times again.

I don’t understand why there are so many negative comments - Torquay is wonderful! My wife and I first discovered Torquay a year ago, and we’ve made 4 visits so far, twice in the lovely old Imperial Hotel and twice in nice Airbnbs. Next time you’re there, after you cross the clanky bridge, turn right into Beacon Quay, rather than heading back towards town. There’s a couple of rocks the other side of the eastern harbour wall which are nearly always covered in cormorants/shags. After that, continue up the steep hill to the Imperial, then follow the Southwest Coastal Path that continues behind the hotel. The views are absolutely fantastic, including the oddly-named “London Bridge,” a rock arch in the sea. Thanks for the wonderful memories - the new camera is fine, but the frame rate is a little low.
Torquay and the surrounding area is beautiful i went on holiday there & can't wait to go back, i love the whole of Devon, North and south a very beautiful county imo, i also went to Dartmouth in south Devon that was such a pretty place as well, if you haven't been i recommend going its gorgeous, well worth checking out.
Victorian Torquay was just beautiful, that is when the council and administrators were public-oriented. Torquay main town, especially around Castle Circus, has become run-down and neglected, full of drug abusers, alcoholics, beggars and grifters. The parts of Torquay shown here are the most preserved and attractive remnants of the old town of the early to mid 1900's. Having lived here for 55 years I have seen the town change a _lot_ and unfortunately it is not for the better... :( I do applaud your effort to show the more tourist-oriented parts of the town which still hold some beauty for visitors to what was once a Victorian sanctuary of beauty and solace. Whilst the town does have its rough bits, there are worse places to be living in the UK. Besides, every town has good and bad areas, but not every town has a beach and looks like this on a sunny day. I moved to Devon from the Peak District 20 odd years ago and don’t regret it one bit, even the commute to Exeter is scenic! 👍
Used to holiday in Torquay many moons ago befor all the changes.Had a guest house up church road , and just down from the accommodation was a cafe called phudpuckers , wonder if it’s still there, also went fishing on a boat named Striker. They used to have a Ferry past the slipways which took you to Gurnsey sadly no longer there. spent 3years going there and found nothing wrong with it.
I've lived here for 14yrs, I came from a council estate during the 70s. Kids were kids ( and they knew it ) I'm sure if I went there now it would have changed for the worst. Talking to people who have lived for yrs they say it also changed for the worst, its life. I work here and have may some nice friends, so there's bad bits and beautiful bits.
The fish in the marina are grey mullet. I lived in Torquay for a year, it's really nice down by the beach and marina but the town centre and some other areas are very run down. Like most seaside resorts in the UK it's got that feel to it of being past it's best.
Great video of a beautiful town. The photography resolution really does it justice….pin-sharp and nice, vibrant colours. It’s a shame you didn’t go along Princess Pier and film the huge yacht that has subsequently gone up in flames, badly damaging the pier and harbour wall. The only problem with now living in Torquay is all my friends from up north come and visit all the time…sometimes multiple visits over the summer! 😉
The Marina Bridge made me smile, with our last dog, we tried to cross it, And Benjie crawled across it on his belly, Oh boy did it make people giggle, Love the whole of that area, except for the hills Lol
I’m new to living in Torquay, never been here before moving from North Devon (many reasons I couldn’t/didn’t), but I get why the locals are annoyed and I absolutely see the beauty here too. I think the main issue locals have is that the council and funding is 90% of the time only designated for those few summer months that bring in tourist. The rest of the time it feels like the council forget locals exist. And because of that it’s easy to grow to dislike the place. Torquay is stunning, but it gets lost when those who are here all the time get neglected
Great video. My partner and I first visited Torquay about 10 years ago and have been back many times. I call it my "Happy place". Princess theatre is a great venue, been lucky enough to catch Jane McDonald, Elkie Brooks and a few others there. Icing on the cake for us is the new Hampton by Hilton hotel in the town centre ....... Not the cheapest, but a great place to stay, ( No I don't work for them 😁 ). The town itself is a bit run down in places, but perfection doesn't exist in my opinion. I'd give Torquay a 9! Great camera work btw 👍.
If folk don't like torquay that live there then maybe best thing is to is move away . It ain't going to get better than that now . And by the way it looks lovely to me. I would live there .
I was there last week holidaying in nearby Paignton. Wasn't overly impressed with Torquay so headed up to nearby Babbacombe which was much better with a model village, cliff railway and Kent Caverns.
Looks great. I am planning a visit this year, that's why I watched your great video. I'd say the locals want to keep it for themselves, so they make negative comments to put people off of visiting. Camera is nice and clear BTW.
The locals live the real Torquay. They too have gambling shops....charity shops.. .cheap shops... drug pushers....rundown shop fronts. I think its important to remember that maybe their council tax is quite high because they live in the coast and as tourists we can stay in the nicer areas because we dont have to visit the town to shop supplies every week . Its also a good base for Paignton...Brixham ....Plymouth and Newton Abbot
I live in Torquay for a decade now. As lovely as this video was it's hardly a "full tour" of Torquay. This was basically a walk around the harbour, nothing else, maybe 1% of the town. It didn't show a single thing of the real Torquay. :) It's like filming the Big Ben and the Tower and saying "that is London".
@@GimbalWalkTV I visited in July and September. I went on walking tours, visited Brixham, Paignton and cockington, tried paddle boarding and visited lots of different restaurants. I havent got a bad word to say about any of it.

In what order would you suggest going to the following plaaces: Falmouth, Plymouth and Torquay? Are there any others that I must visit in South west - would love to have a suggestion from you?
Great filming, Torquay, indeed Torbay is naturally very beautiful, but unfortunately like many seaside resorts some parts are sadly run down now, this isn't helped by the economic climate causing shop closures, Torquay really needs a good shopping area as the town isn't great, might be better if Shekinah Mission and homeless center left the bay, how can great stores be encouraged to come here? But there are many excellent hotels and the weather is usually kind, all in all it's a lovely place.
@@GimbalWalkTV it is really, 30-40 years ago the place was top banana (I believe) fat old men fall asleep on a deck chair with a knotted hanky on his head on the beach, Torbay still thinks in its seaside holiday heyday, walk down Torquay Road in Paignton and you can buy an ice cream and a bag of smack walking down to the seafront, the place has nothing going for it, a few crappy arcades, a bunch of 3 star hotels and a couple of mouldy palm trees, and they have the nerve to call it The English Riviera, the place survives on summer dollars, outside of working in shops maybe chucking ice cream at holiday makers here, there are zero sustainable work opportunities here, there are a lot of pubs, which inveriabky lead to alcohol related violence and abuse, and the people in charge of this place still think its the 1920s while the place in reality is falling apart, and I hope it just falls into the water, this is not a nice place, over the last 20 years, I have seen it get worse, like a tumour. Enjoyed that, even though I've done this walk countless times. I'm at the Princess theatre tonight to see Jasper Carrot. I don't know when this was filmed but just ove a week ago one of the large boats in the harbour turned into an inferno shortly after being fuelled up. It burnt through its moorings and drifted against the pier before sinking, causing the pier to be closed due to damage. Someone filmed it with a drone so you'll find it on UA-cam somewhere.

There’s a lot of bounce that I didn’t expect from using a quality gimbal. The place looks lovely, picture quality is particularly sharp.
Good stuff
The bounce is intentional
It if didn’t have it viewers would be sick
Torquay is my like second home town.
I had been lived here 1996 12 ---1997 10 when I was young for learn to English.
It was really good time and never forget beautiful memories

Great place we cannot get enough of Torquay!!! It’s not all glitter and gold but it’s good enough for us , one day we hope to get a flat here , you really need to do a video of the coastal walk starting at the imperial hotel it’s absolutely amazing!!!!
Well said - it's fab
I'll do that walk by the way - not been that way yet
Me and hubby go here every year and stay at the Premier Inn on the front where you started the walk. The fish and chips on the harbourside are some of the best!
Seaside fish and chips - mmmmm perfect!
I was in Torquay yesterday, it was stunning
Lovely stuff
Hope you had a great time
@@GimbalWalkTV I had an amazing time thank you.Met with friends during the day then we all went to see the amazing Jane Mcdonald in concert @ Princess Theatre.

That was lovely. Thank you. 👍
Thanks Bill!
I love Torquay and completely agree with you about those horrible flats! 😅
They’re a bit rubbish aren’t they 🤣
I've lived here for 14yrs, I came from a council estate during the 70s.
Agreed
Absolutely wonderful, brought back lots of lovely memories of trips to Torquay. Would love you to do one of Plymouth if you get a chance. 😀
Consider it done Helen - I'll be down there soon
@@GimbalWalkTV thank you!
It looks wonderful. I would love to visit. Thank you for the video, it is very informative well taken !
Our pleasure!
Stayed at thee HEADLAND HOTEL about 4yrs ago Loved it Loved thee Area as well
Torbay as a whole is lovely . Totally underrated but I’m happy that it’s a secret 🤫
So true Sally
The Marina Bridge made me smile, with our last dog, we tried to cross it, And Benjie crawled across it on his belly, Oh boy did it make people giggle, Love the whole of that area, except for the hills Lol
🤣🤣🤣
Love this place! Can't wait to get back there in August
Have fun - lovely place
I’m new to living in Torquay, never been here before moving from North Devon (many reasons I couldn’t/didn’t), but I get why the locals are annoyed and I absolutely see the beauty here too. I think the main issue locals have is that the council and funding is 90% of the time only designated for those few summer months that bring in tourist. The rest of the time it feels like the council forget locals exist. And because of that it’s easy to grow to dislike the place. Torquay is stunning, but it gets lost when those who are here all the time get neglected
This part of Torquay is beautiful.
Agreed
Wow so many boats gosh 😍8 outta 10
It’s 9/10. We are going on holiday there this year
Have a great time!
Thanks Gary
Will definitely be trying Hampton next time I'm there!
Oh nice!
I've not been there yet so will give it a try!
never walk around there, just drive and rode through there, on the way to other places, might do a walk around this year.
In Australia, Geelong we too have Torquay beach.
Beautiful will have to make a point of taking the grand children here
It’s lovely for a walk around
My favourite place I’ve ever lived!!!
I'm just wondering if you encountered the jogging stormtrooper who we saw just about every day on our visit a few years ago?
Ha ha no I didn’t see them! Sounds fun that!
He was there last year 👍
💯 love torquay
👍👍👍❤️
Looks to be a nice place. Hope to get chance to visit one day.
You should
Thanks for video going in two weeks looks beautiful
Have a great time!
@@GimbalWalkTV thanks very much. I saw another video of yours in Skegness the music was amazing keep up the good work
I last visited torquey over 4o years ago and l think its got even better l d love to visit it again but carnt afford it
Looks great. I am planning a visit this year, that's why I watched your great video. I'd say the locals want to keep it for themselves, so they make negative comments to put people off of visiting. Camera is nice and clear BTW.
Thank you so much
Torquay is the place where I get the most negative comments from locals that's for sure
Awesome, inspired me and my Mrs to go on our holiday there this October, can you recommend any hotels near the seafront, reasonable prices.
Thank You looks like a O K place to be... Well worth a Visit.
It really is!
Quite a pleasant town(at least by day) with some lovely old Victorian buildings. Those fish were most likely silver or grey mullet.
Thanks Simon!
Love seeing fish like that!
i stayed in torquay in april this year i found it quite nice like all seaside towns it has problems . i live in blackpool and have done all my life [69 years] if you want to see how bad a holiday destination is blackpool is the place a wonderfull place many years ago but not now i would swop with torquay any time if i could afford to.
Beautiful place !
It is!
we go on holiday here every year , been going 8 years now
I enjoyed my visit to Torquay a few years ago, and it still looks nice in the sunshine. Have you been to Budleigh Salterton?
Oooh no i haven’t
Is it close?
@@GimbalWalkTV About 30 miles from Torquay.
I live here, Torbay is the most deprived area of Devon, although the harbour looks nice, the rest of Torquay is rundown and horrible.
Yes that’s what I hear
Sad to hear
Gotta agree with that, Torquay is one of those places where the chavs outnumber the seagulls

@@ I wasn't sure as I don't get out too much, but is the rest of the south west like 70 years behind the rest of the country?
Enjoyed that, even though I've done this walk countless times. I'm at the Princess theatre tonight to see Jasper Carrot. I don't know when this was filmed but just ove a week ago one of the large boats in the harbour turned into an inferno shortly after being fuelled up. It burnt through its moorings and drifted against the pier before sinking, causing the pier to be closed due to damage. Someone filmed it with a drone so you'll find it on UA-cam somewhere.
10 out of 10 love the place was there Christmas time and went on Christmas train of light great
U were ripped off 🤣
