We explore the seaside town of Torquay walking from Torquay Harbour to Torquay Beach via the town centre and marina to give you the best view of this amazing place that we can.
Torquay England is a seaside resort town on the English Channel in Devon, south west England. Known for beaches such as Babbacombe and cliffside Oddicombe, its coastline is nicknamed the English Riviera. Torquay Harbour near the town centre offers shops, cafes and a marina. Torre Abbey, a monastery founded in 1196, has art galleries and extensive gardens featuring plants from local writer Agatha Christie's novels.
Welcome to Torquay, a traditional yet thriving seaside town set on Devon's English Riviera coast and the top trending UK holiday destination in 2021. If you haven't visited for a while, then banish those thoughts of a resort that has seen its hey day.... the best is yet to come. With its iconic palm trees, busy harbour, international marina, sandy beach and wonderful array of continental style cafes, restaurants and cocktail bars, the scene is set for the perfect Devon seaside holiday or short break. Come and see Torquay 2021.
You can’t get much more of a ‘traditional British seaside’ resort than the vibrant and cheerful town of Torquay UK. Set at the very heart of the English Riviera on the South Devon Coast, Torquay is famous for its sandy beaches, family attractions and genteel Victorian appearance. Made famous by the legendary comedy series Fawlty Towers, Torbay is distinctly Mediterranean and is a family favourite with plenty of attractions and things to do.
From air displays to cultural events, Torquay is a seaside resort that knows how to cater for everyone’s tastes, and it certainly knows how to party, too. For water sports, fishing and sailing Torquay has a fabulous choice of beaches, while the evenings provide fine dining, theatre, cinema and star studded shows for all the family.
You’ll find Torquay is a stylish resort with a real continental atmosphere. Torquay restaurants bring out the West Country flavour in a diverse range of cuisine from award winning fish and chips to internationally inspired gastronomy.
This quintessential bucket and spade resort appeared in The Guardian, being described as one of "Britain's most booming seaside towns, undergoing a style revival with Michelin starred restaurants and swanky yachts"! .
In September each year, Torquay comes alive with super-sleuths for the famous International Agatha Christie Festival.
So whether you want a holiday on the beach, paddling in the sea, building sandcastles and staying in a great hotel or B&B, or if you would prefer sailing on a yacht, eating in top bars, pubs and restaurants, and walking along the harbour and marina then come and check out Torquay!

I am from Sweden. In the summer of 1966 I was in Torquay to study the English language on a training course. I was a teenager then, I am old now. I enjoyed every minute of my stay 55 years ago and it still looks lovely today. Yes!!!!! I would love to revisit Torquay, I have so many fond memories of this beautiful town.

...I am from Torquay, a British guy, I remember you students in Torquay, EF students. I used to sit and chat you guys at the “island“ at Castle Circus, (top of the town) I even dated a Swedish girl and still have her photos I took 44 years ago. You were there 1966, i was 8 years old then, so couldn't have been you I dated, lol, (You're a woman i presume?)

I was born in Torquay 60 years ago. It really hasn't changed that much. Those sandy coloured flats were built just before I left and 'Torre Abbey' sands are just as they were when I was a boy. Crackin place. I will always love it.

I know what you mean about the sound of the sea. I'm lucky enough to live a three minute drive from the ocean, and I just love sitting there listening to the waves. So good after the tourists are gone, and there's no other sounds.

This brought back so many happy memories. I grew up in Cockington Village, with the thatched cottages, the old forge, Cockington Court and church, and the lakes. I haven't been able to get there since lockdown, so thank you for your film. Especially the clip from the beach as the waves gently rolled in. My favourite place to be is Meadfoot Beach, not far from Torquay town centre, and Dartmoor (I recommend the Thurlstone if you fancy a good pub slightly off the beaten track). Thanks again.

What a wonderful video. Only got back from a weeks holiday in Torquay 3 days ago. Fell in love with the place 6 years ago when we first visited and we have been every year since apart from last year due to covid. I didnt see the date of this video, but it was much busier last week and the shops and bars that were closed in the video are now open again. We intend retiring here in the next 6 or 7 years. The weather is pretty much like in the video everytime we have visited. Its such a wonderful place. Every year i take pictures and show people, i should just send this video from now on.

I Loved Torquay & Brixham, first went there when I was 13 with my mum & dad, 1960, the Riviera they called it, think it was a 17-hour coach journey from Manchester, went back with my mates in 1963 with Beatle music everywhere, how it has changed in 60 years, I hardly recognize any of it, but the Beautifull Princess theatre with its summer shows like the John Barry 7 jazz music, it drove my dad potty, Many thanks for that, brought back some fantastic memories

I had the greatest time, the hotel was fantastic, the walks were amazing and I just loved the place
But in the comments of this video people from Torquay are posting absolute hate for the place, and saying it's a horrible place in reality
I hear that everywhere I go but Torquay has had the most negative comments from residents
I wonder if they realise the damage they do when they post about the town like that?

.....I'm originally from Torquay, was a resident there 21 years ago, (I left 21 years, I returned back to Torquay for 1 year, before that I lived in Cyprus 15 years, so around 31 years away) I grew up there on and off from age 3 to 27, I've lived around the world, around 7 countries, I live in Taiwan now, 20 years here and married to local and have a daughter. Just seeing this video brings back all I used to see. What a perfect walk of Torquay town center, love to have seen Castle Circus where I would hang out a lot. Last address was Broad Park Rd. Love British countryside, over top of Barton down to the farmlands. I still have the buzzing of bees and butterflies in my mind as I sometimes walked all the way to Goose Inn. Seeing rabbits and foxes running around in fields and owls in the trees, here it's just a shabby concrete jungle full of traffic noise, pollution is quite high. Ugly buildings. Life here is vastly different. Here, we only get true blue sky just before typhoons arrive, they shift the cloud cover we usually have most times of the year, so when a typhoon comes, we have deep blue sky, only then blue. Sad. One thing I noticed and forgot about UK, people walk fast there, here walk slowly.

So nice! Thank you so much! ❤️ Although I was born in West Sussex, we moved to Brixham, then Torquay, in the mid-sixties. After a few years we moved back to Sussex but my mother always had a thing about Devon and wanted to return, so we did in 1975, eventually settling in Goodrington, an 8-min walk from Young's Park and the beach. I went to Torquay Girls' Grammar. Since 1991 I have been in Japan and have been homesick for almost 28 years for Torbay! Sometimes, when I commute to school here on the train, I pretend I'm travelling from Exeter to Paignton. Or I sit and watch a UA-cam video I've downloaded showing that journey. That's how bad it is! I just cannot afford to move back halfway across the world with my four-legged rescues and even if I could, there is no way I could afford a place to live in that area. It's so beautiful. Oh, to hear and smell the sea and hear those seagulls again! And if anyone is looking for a great place to stay in South Devon, I highly recommend Masts in Torquay and the company Toad Hall Cottages. BTW you omitted to mention the fact that Agatha Christie used to rollerskate along Princess Pier. There are old photos on the internet showing her and her chums. Thanks again!!

Torquay is an annual staple for our family, we have been visiting regularly for the last twenty years and consider it a family tradition, we all go, my wife and I, three children and the grandparents! Now that restrictions are beginning to lift we are looking forward to a week in Torquay towards the end of July.
There is so much to do here that you couldn’t possibly do it justice in a 20 minute video but I really liked what do did include on this occasion. Personally I highly recommend the open top bus tour for getting good flavour of the other attractions on offer, the guide is very knowledgable and entertaining, you get a really decent trip for the money!
I look forward to seeing your other videos.

I live in Brixham and drive through Torquay to get to the little Theatre (a converted church). Never walked further than the Clock Tower and didn't know there was a Museum of Crime on the seafront! Pity the flower beds in Priness Gardens have not yet been planted - guess that's another job delayed because of the virus. Thanks for your interesting video.🙏

My mum lives at the back of the little theatre. She moved a few weeks before the pandemic so has never got to visit it yet. The area and view she has is simply stunning. I lived in Exeter for a while (am from essex) and people always ran Torquay down. I found it much lovelier than I was expecting when I finally visited recently. I’m torn between moving outside of bath or to Babbacombe now.

Torquay is my so called second home, I'm there with my little boy often. Got back from there just after that really hot spell and back again next month.
It's my son's favourite place to be, spending hours on the beach and then fish and chips before heading back to the hotel or apartment to shower off half of the beach, collapse into bed and do it again the next day.
The zoo at Paignton is incredible, the enclosures are huge, it's an endangered species breeding zoo.
The steam train from Paignton to Kingswear is lovely, then take the ferry to Dartmouth and have a river cruise and get the steam train back.
Kents Cavern is incredible too, near Meadfoot beach.

First visited Torbay in the late 50's or early 60's and traveled there from the North West of England on either the Standerwicks or Yelloways ( can't remember now ) double decker long distance bus service.
This was before the M5 and I think the M6 was only partially completed in that direction so it was A38 and another trunk road for much of the way and those double deckers went like a bat out of hell along there non stop most of the way.
Took quite a long time to get there too.

Gimbal Walk TV have captured the scene in Torquay perfectly! My wife and I completed this walk a couple of year’s ago, the place is an absolute delight, we also captured the view from the top of the big wheel. Also worth a mention is the village Cockington just outside Torquay, you can buy real gifts whilst watching them made! Enjoy!

Hi, I very much enjoyed seeing Torquay again after many years living in France. My first holiday, aged 12, was in Torquay in 1959 and remember seeing the Pavilion Theatre there at that time looking pretty mature. It's style suggests a much earlier build date and rather than the 1961 construction date that you state I think you'll find it was built around 1912. From memory 1961 is good for the Princess Theatre, the year that I saw Des O'Conner perform there before he was a national icon. He was fabulous.

    • @davidclinch1358
      @davidclinch1358 3 роки тому

You replied that the instruction of 1961 referred to the Princess Theatre, but at 10.20 1961 is given as the opening date for the Pavilion Theatre. Just mentioning, that's all.
