+Theishter - Anime on Piano When I met you and Animenz for the first time at the Steinway Gallery nearly 2 years ago, never did I imagine that I would be making covers, much less having this much feedback. And I doubt things would be the same if hadn't discovered your sheets for Sword Art Online, Robotics;Notes, and Bakemonogatari. Therefore thank you, Ishter, for inspiring me to make covers.
+Chris Luan (阮克理) I hope success comes to your performances now and in the future. Seriously, this is good stuff~ I think every anime pianist provide their own style to the community, and yours is very very sophisticated. You have my full support!
You know, Chris, I was 13, when I found this masterpiece. Now I'm 18 and after so while I still like to listen to this amazing music. Your arrangement is perfect. And I'm sure I'll return to this video after 3, 5 and even 10 years. When I was 13 I've tried to learn this melody, and even coped with everything before second chorus. My perfomance was completely imperfect. But anyway I was incredibly happy, perfoming this song. I'm so grateful to you. This song, performed with your hands is a significant part of my life.
Your audio sounds top notch, don't worry, it's been put to good use :) As for this arrangement, this is extraordinary! I love all the techniques and embellishments in it. It was really powerful, and I love that run at 3:15! The dissonance is really prominent in this performance. Keep up the great work!
This is absolutely phenomenal! I’m subscribed to most of the “big names” in anime piano (Animenz, Fonzi M, Theishter, etc.), but this cover stood out to me and is impressive beyond anything else I’ve seen on piano. I don’t know how I haven’t found your channel before, you’re amazing! (sorry for over-the-top praise, I’m a sucker for good music lol)
Your hands are like beautiful, talented, terrifying spiders. Seriously though, everything about this was extremely impressive, particularly those jumps. Awesome job.
Thanks, and I mean all of us, including you the viewers/audience/our fans, are part of the future of anime piano! Without you, there'd be no sustainable community. And without my relatives, teachers, my friend MDZ, and both TheIshter and Animenz, I would not have developed the experience for piano and I would not have even known about this piano genre. So I'd like to thank them!
I've never heard such a reproducible performance before. The use of leaps and the overwhelming number of notes beautifully recreate the tremendous mass of the orchestration of the original song on the piano... The quality is high and the atmosphere of that fascinating song is fully expressed, it's really great! Thank you very much!!
Each year when I come back to listen to this cover, I still get massive chills from the sheer power level shown throughout the entire performance. It holds a special place in my heart as much as any Theishter or Animenz cover out there.
Thank you so much for playing this. Namae no Nai Kaibutsu is in my top 3 favorite anime songs and I'm so glad you uploaded this video so people could hear such a breathtaking version of it. You made an already beautiful song sound even more beautiful. I would love to see a Madoka video! Perhaps Magia or Sis Puella Magica... the show has an amazing soundtrack.
+notgothic24 Oh yes it does. Even after 4 years, I can still remember this series more vividly than others and I suspect the "Madoka"-tier soundtrack played a part. [Quotations and diction used to avoid spoilers in my allusion there.] I actually have 2 arrangements (by Japanese arranger tomoya) which I re-transcribed and edited as well as a special arrangement of Connect, one of my favorite OPs.
+Chris Luan (阮克理) Madoka is one of those series that stay in your head long after you've finished watching it. I just finished rewatching the show for the third time a few days ago and I've been listening to the soundtrack nonstop.
Ahhhhhhh, such an epic arrangement, it encompasses the genius of thought, creativity, reminiscences, loves and experiences in a single piece with many moods and shifts of feeling, please keep the uploads, you're amazing.
+H. Bellz Hopefully my efforts put into each cover justify the amount of time between uploads. Thanks for your thoughts, I'm glad the song spoke out to you sentimentally.
Well, this is indeed the most beautifl cover of this song i've ever seen, i'm just amazed by your technique Great job, i'll share your work with a big pleasure
I've been listening to Animenz's arrangements all this time, thinking there could be nothing better then his play style, BUT I KID YOU NOT YOU ARE OFFICIALLY MY FAVOURITE PIANIST ON NOT JUST UA-cam.
Uh, was that supposed to be a suggestion for me or to fellow listeners who listen at max volume? Just out of curiosity, am I one of the few who listens to music at low volume? I personally dislike listening at med./high volumes, especially since the thumping bass and exhausting highs hurt my ears --- and this goes for using earphones (Shure SE215K) and headphones (ATH M50x). Though classical music is still a little more bearable than J-pop/etc. at volumes higher than "low."
Uh, I use Audio Technica M50x's. When I was looking for headphones several years back, I was told that either the 50x or 40x would be fine haha. For future reference, which headphones/monitors would you suggest? I probably need lessons on and more experience with audio mastering too. I only use compression and a limiter in Audacity currently.
Chris Luan (阮克理) The ath-m40x may fit your taste better as it is more neutral(m50x bass can cause you a headache sometimes). Also check out the ath-msr7 :) If you are serious about listening gear, you may want to check out for long periods of listening at home use, akg k712 (open back headphone)with a amp/DAC will be very comfortable and can separate instruments very well with high clarity. Amp/DAC is to decode music better and to amp the headphone better. Akg k712 cannot be used from phone properly. Recommend eBay to buy akg k712 ($250+) and amp/DAC(massdrop centrance dacport slim or schiit fulla 2 both $100+) :) instrumental separation will be superb on akg k712 with amp/DAC. ath-m40x is also a very good monitoring headphone if you don't want to spend so much money haha :) Your covers are really awesome, keep it up :)
It was a challenge to play it in one go. I'm relieved I was able to convey the power and expressiveness of the song. I'll try to continue, after I recover.
Hey Chris, I've commented on this video before, just on a different account. but wow still amazed by how amazing this is. I think I'm good enough to tackle this now. whenever you are ready please release the sheet music. I'll be your successor
This is still as insane and breathtaking as the first time I heard it. The sheer complexity of your arrangements (and this one in particular) always leave me awestruck and speechless hahaha... I am glad to have found you when you had around 120 subs. So I can brag that I knew you before you were famous :P. The subs and views will come, I am sure of that hahahha..... Already 4 years have past huh... Can't believe it, time sure flies by fast. I hope one day I am able to play as good as you :'))
When i saw this i thought to myself that this is an arrangement that i might finally be able to play. I was wrong lol You also got yourself a sub, good job :D
Don't tell me you arranged it with relative pitch. That's so epic. The left patterns are interesting. 4:02 finally I can hear it in pure piano, well done!
Hey, so I'm 99% sure I have absolute pitch (or really really really good relative pitch). Immediately after hearing the start of a song, I can identify the key or tonality. When I was a kid, my teacher also tested this. My teacher played random chords in random registers while I blindfolded. Then, I'd have to go to the piano and replay the same chords/notes. Thanks! I try to keep things as interesting as possible. 4:02 is like the prayer to your personal god. It's the eye of the hurricane, the calm as the maelstrom surrounds you.
That is one of the most sophisticated arrangement I've seen ! Unique left hand patterns , flashy right hand runs , everything was cleverly put together ! and the fact that you manage to play something this hard is really amazing ! Great job ! You earn the sub :D
+CSMPiano I couldn't have done this without the inspiration from EGOIST for such an epic ED and from the UA-cam anipiano community. Haha, I thought it would be fun to explore some technical limits on the piano --- in the end, it was worth the effort. Plus, practicing this song makes for great exercise. EDIT: typo

+Sakaitsu These comments are very motivational. I'm glad you felt that way listening to my cover! Even if we once stopped at one point or another, what matters is that we enrich our lives --- whether that be in continuing or finding other activities. I personally stopped playing piano for a bit, but I'm glad that I returned and gained new musical knowledge and experience.
Absolutely. Sensational. Are you even human, 'Chris', or to give you your proper name, Alien Overlord Luan? I'm astounded. I can literally only dream of playing this as a self-taught noob. Thank you for your fantastic covers and for inspiring me with your COLORS cover to learn the song myself. Keep pumping out amazing vids
Absolutely beautiful. Thanks for the cover. Sidenote: Painting your finger nails as a pianist seems like a good (if not slightly insane) idea for a youtuber who shows their hands a lot. Good luck in your endeavors.
+Eve Mei Thanks! I'm glad that you found my attempt to depict the dystopia as something beautiful. They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder, as is the case in literature (i.e. The Scarlet Letter) and in music (i.e. Liszt's Sonata in B minor).
I love how your style is. Even at first, besides of your unique Reverie cover, I thought and feel weird because it's quite different sounds, putting a lot of emotions through tons of notes and all the 3 hand-technique I don't know that is it sometimes too much, and sometimes feel not flowing, but now I know it's a masterpiece besides Pianeet and Animenz. Maybe the recording got improved too, including in this cover really so great and smooth. It is a great different~~and not have to be the same. Not too mention your techniques are at virtuosity level. ;) Glad to know you Chris Luan!
Pretty fucking impressive.

Keep up the great work!
Good! I wanted to make dissonance a main feature in this arrangement, because it musically fits the mood of the store.
Pretty crazy stuff. This arrangement is almost like a 'grab-bag' of cool piano techniques. Well played my friend.
+Piano Man A 'grab-bag'? The equivalent of that is probably a jar of assorted sweets, if we're on the same wavelength.
Yup.

Not too mention your techniques are at virtuosity level. ;) Glad to know you Chris Luan!
Thanks, I'm always trying to streamline my style because it makes it easier to learn/perform! I hope you'll give me feedback on videos to come!
