the book is so good because picturing a baby killing people is scary but then actually seeing a baby killing people is just too funny
Yeah and in the book Gage comes back all bloated and rotten, stinking of the grave, one eye to the wall, and mean as hell. They watered him down completely for the 1989 movie. The 2019 version Ellie was closer to the re-animated dead kid from the novel, although being an older girl instead.

Probably because most of the appeal of the real estate is it being rural openness with beautiful vegetation, nice rolling hills, a clean cool lake, and easy access to the road to town that you can drive down or just commit to walking, running, or jogging down
Also the architects and landscapers probably weren’t working under the assumption that rural townsfolk would have inexperienced, unaware kids they needed to protect from all the best aspects of rural living
This isn’t a problem with the film, it’s a profound weakness within your ability to objectively analyze and criticize an art form
It's ironic how Rachel's father is giving the main character shit for letting Gage die when they were extremely negligent with Zelda.
I know he said where were you when he was playing in the road, first of all Gage wasn't playing in the road second His dad and his were running to get him when Louise tripped. The only thing that all of then did wrong is they shouldn't have taken their eyes off Gage. If the daughter had not said that dumb shit they wouldn't have look over at Ellie and start laughing

@@natvan29 to be honest his wife's parents always were a dick to him, it is because she was the daughter of a kind of rich family and he was a no-one which didn't deserved her, in their looks and that took their daughter away. In the book they even offered him money to finish med school if he dumped her so yeah, it wasn't his fault and the parents were hypocrites about Zelda but they were trying to make him feel bad because they hated him.

Gage's return was the only part that made this film creepy. For me, anyway. Still, Cinema sins got alot of things right!

That's mentioned in the book: after Gage kills Rachel, Louis thinks about going to Chicago, getting Ellie and fleeing to Florida. But knows Gage will eventually find them.

The reason Jud took him out to the cemetery to bury Church even though he knew the consequences was because of the Wendigo's power over him. I don't know if the Wendigo was mentioned in this movie very much but in the book, Jud said that he knew he was doing the wrong thing, but the Wendigo made him unable to resist the urge to take him there. Once you know about the Micmac burial grounds, you're almost compelled to show it to someone else. The Wendigo also made anyone driving a truck within a certain radius of its territory have the uncontrollable urge to drive dangerously fast, probably to cause more accidents.
As if the book/movie weren't ridiculous enough already.

In the book the dog was a bit slow, smelly and it's tongue was cold but never aggressive. It re-lived for two years if I remember correctly. Besides the Indian curse got everyone who visited the place addicted to it, Jud included.

6:55 it's incredibly relevant to the rest of the movie- it's the part of Rachel's backstory that explains her disproportionate phobia of death (doesn't go to Missy's funeral, annoyed at Louis for letting Jud take them to the burial ground). Does backstory not matter anymore?
idk how much rachels backstory is touched upon in the movie but that is massively explained in the book, so if it wasn't explained in the movie at all maybe that's why he thought/considered it irrelevant

I couldn’t handle Gage’s attempted murdering his dad. I though he was too cute to take seriously

It’s worse than a possessed doll, for all intents and purposes it’s the possessed corpse of his dead kid who he loved so much that he tried to bring him back to life. There’s no way that isn’t going to psychologically and emotionally unbalance him, which is the whole point of using that form at that time in that setting
IKR!!! When Louis injected Gage with the needle and he says "No fair. No fair." You kind of feel bad because he's so little, and forget the fact that he's an evil undead child.
I've watched this channel for like half a decade and all I ask for is Shawshank Redemption....

I lived the family in the 80s drives a station wagon with wood paneling sin... literally. It wasn’t all that bad, at least until you realize that the cemetery wasn’t haunted and nobody cared, then it got boring.

My mom drove two of those in the 90's. The first one was red metalic paint with wood paneling, the second was navy blue metalic paint with wood paneling.
My favorite place to sit was in the back because those seats face the rear and I would make faces at the cars behind us.

Despite all flaws, I love this movie. Also, the reason why he didn't tell his son he loved him back is all explained in the book

Some people say its good, never had anybody tell me its bad. I'm currently reading the book, hoping to watch the movie after so I can compare them.

Don't forget the Shawshank Redemption, Misery (unless he already did that), and the Green Mile.
I think a lot of things that would confuse you if you watched the movie and hadn’t read the book are the way the characters are drawn towards the force of the pet Sematary and the Mic-Mac burial grounds. In the book King explains how the place sucks you in and makes you believe what you are doing is right, like when Louis followed Jud to the burial grounds to bury Church without question. It also explains how Rachel just knew she had to go back to Louis when she was in Chicago with her parents and Louis was going to the grave to dig up Gage.

"Pet Sematary" sounds better than "Indian Burial Ground." Plus it's the cemetery that kind of gets people curious about what lies beyond the "Pet Sematary." It could have also been the fact that Stephen King actually found a real pet cemetery in the woods behind his home, and just named the novel after it. It was that pet cemetery in his woods that made him think of what would happen if there was a place beyond that could bring dead things back.
On the pet cematary is the entrance to the only path that leads to the cursed burial ground.
I loved when "Southpark" spoofed Gwinne's character. It was hilarious!

I think the “it” the guy was talking about was the wendigo. Its only mentioned in the book
Will Story which doesn’t make sense since the Wendigo in the book was getting stronger and wanted to draw Rachel back. The whole “it’s trying to stop you thing” is not in the book. King totally botched the screenplay adaptation.
@@evilsWa Yes and no. It didn't want Rachel back until AFTER Louis buried Gage in the Pet Sematary. It had to slow her down, because she would've arrived too early and spoiled all of the Wendigo's fun otherwise. "It was trying to stop her" from getting there too early.
@@evilsWa that's always king's problem. He writes great books but shitty screenplays. He doesn't seem to understand that movies have different pacing and require a different type of writing. Like, he hated Kubrick's Shining bc it left out a bunch of stuff from the book - nevermind that the movie was incredible and the stuff left out would've dragged it down

@@Chris_Meade have you read the book beacuse fucking no. The Shining movie left out EVERYTHING that made the story. The slow decent into madness was super important, it barely touched on anything with Danny. It was a completely different fucking movie.

I watched this movie on my 16th birthday... and all of the weird stuff didn't stick but the little kid, the cat and the mom scarred me for life. best part was that I had trouble sleeping that night and my little (blond haired) brother had snuck into the living room to watch with us and had seen a good portion in the movie and suddenly he stood in my room ( because he had trouble sleeping himself) that night and I really scared him by screaming like a banshee XD

I definitely prefer this one to the new one. This one was much more accurate to the book
Madame Midnight the new one modernized itself too much to fit today’s “horror standards” I love when Stephen King movies actually follow his novels.
The original film is the only horror movie that I struggle to watch because of how creepy it is, the remake is the only horror movie that gave me a headache throughout.
A lot of the things that don’t make sense in the movie are explained in the book. The only thing that i never got is why Louis is so surprised that Pascow knows his name. I mean he was the new doctor on campus, it’s not that strange right?

Also, in 1979, before Stephen King wrote the book he had moved into a house near a busy road. Near this house, there was a cemetery for animals, and the sign on a tree near it read PETSEMATARY, which was the inspiration for the title.
I prefer to watch the movies first then read the books since the books are usually better and sometimes aren't related much at all like The Lawnmower Man and to some extent The Shining. I usually will like both but for different reasons.
Cinema sins is part of what got me over my fears of scary movies and made me into a horror fan! This movie traumatized me and now I'm over it and this is helping me even more! Haha! Thanks for this!!! Full circle😉

Lots of these "sins" are explained in the book. For example, the reason why Gage went to kill Judd first, was because Judd was planning the shoot him with a shotgun once Gage came back.

The problem with this movie is that it didn't give itself enough time to tell the stories it tried to tell. For instance Missy's suicide towards the beginning should have been dramatic, but she had only been in one scene before that, so we didn't get the time to care about her character.
I live in Maine and that line about “Maine-lining” was spot on and hilarious.
I expected to hear "feels lahk a stahm's a-comin". I was so disappointed.
