      Considering they are wearing the Hyrulean Soldier armor, that could very well be the case. I wish there was more information on them. It does raise the question though, why they have such different equipment based on the territories. I would have expected Rito Ghosts in Hebra, Gerudo Ghosts in the desert, etc.

      The truth of the matter is, all we really know is that there a ghosts on mounds underground. That Zelda is unaware the underground and its ghosts. And that she chose locations where there happen to be 3 ghost gathered.
      There could be a lot of explanations to that. At the end of the day, it a mystery, just as I claimed in the video.

    What fascinates me the most about the depths is how it's a perfect mirror of the overworld, even for things that must've happened AFTER the Zonai left, i.e. things related to the divine beasts (like that hole in that one mountain, anyone?). It's like some kind of quantum entanglement witchcraft.

    • @PixelFusionProductions

    The Coliseums were probably for warriors to test their mettle, given Rauru's a bit of a warrior king.
    Though, a portion of Zonai structures in the Depths are implied to signifigantly predate Rauru. So the Coliseums in the Depths might've belonged to the Barbarian set's "war-like" tribe who were popularly theorized to have been the Zonai.
    Actually, the "war-like tribe" could've been a primitive or ancient era of the Zonai.

      Right, I basically belive that a lot of what we see in the depths predate Rauru and Mineru, and that the Zonai used to be much different. Something else of note about Mekar Island: in BotW if you stand on top of the tree in the middle of the island while wearing the Blue shirt/lobster shirt from Wind waker the wind starts to blow faster. I tested this in TotK wearing the Blue Shirt as well as the full Wind armor set but the wind doesnt blow faster anymore.

      I would have liked to have seen evidence of their existence in thar area. The walls of the chasm a fairly smooth with gloom on them, no recessed areas to imply there was a cave or tunnel there besides the whole leading to the electric like-like room.
      Ideally, there should have been some broken caves that literally end with a open hole into the chasm. I'll reiterate what I keep saying in the comments. My best guess for the coliseums in the depths is that their purpose is the same as the presumed purpose as the coliseum ruins on the surface: combat training, both against monsters and fellow soldiers. The coliseums make for perfect arenas for combat under controlled conditions with the potential for observers to watch, though not necessarily being a soectstor sport. It seems unlikely to me that the Zonai would take slaves, much less force them into gladitorial fights to the death in front of an audience of their peers, and from a developer/meta standpoint, I doubt Nintendo would intend for that to be the case but still try to portray Rauru as an honorable, respectable, widely beloved ruler who was more than willing to sacrifice himself for his people.
    Instead I think it's more likely that it's similsr to the Hinox/ Stalnox arena within Hyrule Castle, a place to test the combst skills and strength of soldiers of the kingdom under controlled conditions so that in case anything went wrong, the situation vould be brought under control swiftly and safely. It may have even become a sport later on, but I would still imagine the participants were willing, and the foght was not to the death.
    This also explains the altars in the center of the arena. If, like the test of the royal guard, these combat trials were used to test the abilities of future knights, and their success granted them that title, then the little altar in the middle of the arena may have held a chest, like it does in modern day, containing a piece of equipment befitting a knight.
    Why there are so many of them, especially in strange places, like the lone island (beneath Eventude Island) is a mystery to me. I can only really rsrionalize it as either accesibility or testing soldiers in different conditions (see the scirching coliseum). It's not a perfect theory, but I think it's worth considering.
    Next, the shadow soldiers.
    I believe the soldier spirits are more akin to something like the Hero's Shade from Twilight Princess, soldiers who were killed in the line of duty, unable to move on to their rightful place in the afterlife due to some form of unfulfillment, be that regret over their premature death, their seeming failure to adequately perform their duty as a protector of the kingdom, or desire to continue to help their kingdom in anyway they can (like how the Hero's Shade was unable to move on because he was unable to pass down his knowledge to any successor and thus lingered as a spirit until he found someone able of body and mind to receive it.) To this end, i believe that these Soldier's Shades aren't ancient gladiators, but rather somewhat recently deceased soldiers who perished during the Calamity or conflicts within the past few centuries before it (though it is more likely in my mind that they were from the Calamity specifically.) Pretty much every soldier in Age of Calamity wears the same Hylian Soldier Armor set as the shades, and it makes sense that so many soldiers who died such crushing, traumatic, swift deaths without even standing a chance, unable to protect their kingdom or its people, would linger as Spirits in a realm where spirits unable to move on dwell in abundance. The trios appearing underneath monuments dedicated to the souls lost during the Calamity solidifies this for me, as it does not seem like mere coincidence, and it wouldn't make much sense to have such deep connections to these monuments if the spirits were merely gladiators.
    But i do think that there is a bit of positivity to be found in this. Interestingly, it seems like only Link is able to actually see the spirits. Some notes from Yiga from a base in the depths (I forget which one, I think it may be the one under Kakariko?) mentions how there's strange stacks of stones of unknown origin that have weapons floating above them for seemingly no reason. The Yiga are unable to see the spirits, but Link can, and is freely able to take the weapons they offer.
    So, putting it all together, my theory is this: the shadow soldiers of the depths are the aimless, restless spirits of soldiers slain during the events of the calamity, unable to accept their untimely deaths and move on to the afterlife due to their regret in failing in their duty as protectors of the kingdom. As such, they linger in the depths, a place where lost souls dwell, waiting for an opportunity to fulfill their oath, congregating in important areas, either around monuments dedicated to the lives they lost/ failed to protect, or near strong enemies, so that they may offer assistance to a fellow soldier who may be in need of a weapon. When Link arrives, the spirits may recognize him to some degree as a fellow soldier and a knight to the kingdom; hell, if these were soldiers from the era of the calamiry, some of them may have even known Link personally, trained with him, spoke to him, knew that he was the Champion of Hyrule and sworn protector of Proncess Zelda. They offer their weapons, their swords and spears, to Link, as a way to rectify their failures and fulfill their duty vicariously through Link by giving him tools he can use to fight against evil and protect Hyrule. With this final act of loyalty to their kingdom, they are finally able to ease their regrets and move on to the afterlife.
    Of course, they do respawn with the blood moon but I'd like to think of this as new spirits who have taken the place of the ones who have moved on, looking for their own chance at redemtion.
    That's my interpretation at least. I may be completely wrong, but i feel like it holds a bit more emotional weight that way too.

      There is a lot to intake from your comments, but I'll be brief. The zonai make constructs who are intelligent enough to maintain their structures, execute orders, and have conversations. These constructs are powered by a green energy that seems to be related to souls. And we have a Sage of Spirit who shows not only that she can move her own spirit into a machine, but whose temple has many alcoves with space for said machines.
      The past Zonai may have had slaves. The more recent ones may merely create them in the form of machines. We don't know, but if we look at the cultures the Zonai architecture is based off... the Aztec and Mayans, slavery and human sacrifice are part of that culture.

    Actually if you reference the memories, the Zonai ToT was on the surface. It was connected to the land directly below. Hence the bridges and portion of lake just around the temple. It was raised to be a safe haven, is my best guess, since they knew Link would get injured and when.

    No matter if Wind Waker is canon or not, the fact that Rocksalt is there on the surface might mean that this section of Hyrule has been probably risen up at some point and that parts of it were way more below water surface level.

      One concept I've played with to explain both the depths and the ocean, is the idea that the Zonai Terraformed the land. Consider the cavity below ground that makes the depths came about because they literally raised the land above it. This also explains the Gerudo Desert Wall in the depths.

Maybe... that could have led to a passage, but really doesn't seem like it does. It's a dead end. And even if it did connect, the tablet inscription raises the question of why Zelda didn't realize what was up ahead, and more important... why they should be careful not to disturb it. Instead, she seems shocked and confused about what they are headed towards.

      Imo I think stuff like this is trying to apply real life physics a little too much. It's a magical world, it doesn't necessarily have to be completely realistic.
      My take on the Depths is that it's actually where the remains of the pre-BotW games ended up when the timelines fused, kind of like how Old Hyrule was underneath the Great Ocean. That's why there's so many weapons and armour sets from the past games down there.

    • @PixelFusionProductions

      @@Shinntoku I find it a little funny you say that we can't apply physics when this game literally built a physics engine for its crazy devices. That being said, I feel that a fair bit of skepticism can be applied to things, because if isn't, then the suspension of disbelief is broken. In other words, if the story doesn't make sense, then it loses credibility.
      I get that this game was a massive undertaking. I expect these problems with the Depths I keep bringing up are a result of a dedicated team of people being handed the project and told to create a brand new map, possibly without understanding the lore/subject mater of BotW. The Gerudo Wall probably came about as a result of such a team being told to make a rock wall around the entire map, and not any critical thinking about how the Gerudo Desert functions above ground. Honestly, this is a problem with the director, he should have been paying more attention to his masterpiece. #1: The Depths, as far as we can explore them, are an incarnation of Lorule, the Dark World equivalent of Hyrule. There are almost certainly other "Depths" beyond Hyrule's border, but the explorable Depths in TotK end at Lorule's border, which itself lines up more or less with Hyrule's border.
    #2: Luckily, the armor that Rauru's soldiers wore was very different from the armor that the weapon-offering spirits wear, which seems to be modeled after the armor worn by the guards in OoT. I can't entirely rule out the idea of gladiatorial battles, but I must also point out that the original purpose for the coliseum of Rome wasn't entertainment, but so that Rome's generals could observe the combat techniques and tactics of captured enemy soldiers, to improve their own military might. I hope that the coliseums we see find in the depths aren't about forcing Hylians to fight monsters, but more about allowing Hylian soldiers to observe how monsters fight each other so they can better prepare to fight them.
    #3: Although you probably tire of this explanation, I consider this more-or-less proof of the theory that the Depths change to reflect the surface(as I've said before, though, I believe that the surface also changes to reflect the Depths, and that the changes are much more gradual, which allows for the inconsistencies between them). Many cultures and religions believe that the souls of the dead are drawn to specific places, such as their "home" during life, the place where they or others have died, places with some kind of religious significance, or, in this case, altars and monuments built in their honor. The structures the spirits stand on actually have a real world inspiration, cairns, which are stacks of rocks whose purpose is to mark something, often a place of burial. Their appearance is very different from the other Zonai- or Yiga-made structures found throughout the Depths, but they are also artificial. So who built them? I believe that the spirits themselves had a role to play in building these "cairns", whether by actually moving rocks by "hand", or by causing rocks to fall in a way that would create a platform to stand on, despite how improbable it would be for that to happen naturally even one time, let alone hundreds. In any case, I believe they are one of the most recent changes that the Depths have made to themselves (that is to say, changes that are not the result of either the Zonai or Yiga), and that each of the smaller cairns marks something significant to that particular spirit, whether it is their place of birth or death, while the larger cairns were the result of multiple spirits working together because they were drawn to the monuments on the surface.
    #4: I've been wondering what the purpose of Mekar Island was since I saw in BotW. The only explanation I have for the location in general is that it must be a reference to the Forbidden Forest from Wind Waker, which was the home of the Koroks before the Great Deku Tree within it died, and it was taken over by monsters. During the game, a Korok named Makar falls into it and Link must save him, which is where the island gets its name. It wouldn't be the first time that BotW used the corrupted name of characters from a previous game to name a significant location or object, such as Vah Ruta referencing Princess Ruto, Vah Rudania AND Lake Darunia referencing Darunia, and Vah Naboris referencing Nabooru from OoT, as well as Vah Medoh referencing Medli from WW.
    #6: Those pillars you can ascend out of the Depths through are the ONLY locations you can do so. It is not so much that the devs deliberately decided to not let you ascend through the pillar into Hyrule Castle, and more about them only allowing you to ascend at certain points in the Depths, and that Hyrule Pillar isn't one of them.
    #7: As you said yourself, the tunnels they used were destroyed during the Upheaval. It is the only logical conclusion. There are a number of areas in the floating Hyrule Castle, especially towards its bottom, that lead nowhere. You enter them through doorways that lead only to open air, and they end in hallways that have completely collapsed. The tunnels leading downward probably connected to at least one of these areas, though which one is entirely unknown.

    • @PixelFusionProductions
      @PixelFusionProductions  9 місяців тому

      1: I don't believe that BotW / TotK are in the same continuity as the old games. Even if they were, the claim that the depths are an incarnation of Lourule is absurd. Lorule recovered from its problems at the end of A Link Between Worlds, they have their own Triforce.
      2: The Armor worn by the ghost is the same as the Hylian Soldier set. While it bares some similarities to the armor we see in Ocarina of Time, that is simply because this soldier armor was modeled after that. Again, I don't believe BotW / TotK are in the same continuity as the old games and are rebooted continuity interpreting old stories through a new perspective. That perspective is a very traditional Japanese Shinto lens.
      3: You are right, I am tired of people bringing this up and me explaining my points over and over again. If the depths change to reflect the surface, provide me some proof, something stated in the game to support this. The way it is presented is as though the place is ancient and relatively untouched since those ancient times. The constructs continue to function down there. You would think if things were changing, that over 10,000 years, that would have impacted them more. Furthermore, please explain to me why the mining facility in the Dueling Peaks is mining into the wall that didn't exist there during Rauru's era.
      The Depths is littered with mistakes because the team that created it didn't do their homework with the lore, and probably just took the near finished map of the game, inverted it, and made the depths without too much thought.
      4: The name Mekar comes from Wind Waker. If you stand on the tree in BotW, wind will blow. That's basically the extent of the reference behind it. You know about how Stall enemies will ambush you at night, and how Gloom Hands are there in TotK. I'm really said there wasn't a passage way from the Korok Depths to under Mekar Island. It could have been something like the House of Bones again, filled with Stall enemies.
      6: Since I've made this video more has come to light about the situation. First, you are correct that the Ascend Columns are the only means to Ascend out of the depths without really convoluted things like a platform over a chasm. It would seem that the game makes a simple check if Ascension would cross the loading barrier of the game, and if so, it doesn't allow it. This seems to be the reason why that specific part of the Imprisoning Chamber doesn't allow Ascension because it would basically take you into the Throne Room.
      Personally, if I were in charge, I would have made an exception here like the Ascend Columns because it would be cool to see. Too bad. I would like to point out that the ceiling of the Imprisoning Chamber allows Ascension, and it takes you to the bottom of the Chasm around the Hyrule Pillar. You ascend out of it, and the mural room just fine because there is land inside the depths above it. This is also true of Gloom's Lair, stay tuned for the next video when I bring that up more.
      7: I explained my point rather well in the video.
      If Link and Zelda used the Secret Royal Passageway, then they would have passed right by the warning tablet about the Demon King and the Seal. Surely Zelda would have read that, right? If she did, she shouldn't be so utterly shocked about what they find down there, thus it seems unlikely that they used that passage to get down there despite what the game implies. As such, there must have been other tunnels connecting to the Forgotten Foundation.
      If you take a look around the Forgotten Foundation though, you will see no other tunnels that would make sense, and believe me, I cleared out every single boulder of rubble down there. I do agree that it could be the tunnels collapsed, however, you are overlooking that the entire area from the Lynal Room to the Foundation is littered with Zonai stuff. Surely Zelda would have stopped and taken pictures, rambled, and generally gone on about the Zonai before reaching the Forgotten Foundation. So again, her behavior at the start of the game discounts the idea that they passed through tunnels leading through there.
      I again ask the question I did in my video, where are the tunnels they used? They don't seem to exist, and there is no evidence of tunnels they could have used that didn't take them through Zonai-littered hallways.

Once he ultimately flees to the Hebra Abandoned Mine, one of the constructs at the Abandoned Lanayru Mine says that the route to it through the Depths is no longer viable, because it has collapsed, and directs you to find a chasm that leads directly to the mine. Also, there are statues, or "guideposts" as the constructs call them, leading to each of the abandoned mines. However, the statues of Rito that lead towards the Abandoned Hebra Mine end abruptly at a rock wall. In fact, the last statue in that line is half buried, and a nearby "researcher" is baffled by this, since they're supposed to lead towards a mine. @StormsparkPegasus 10 місяців тому

      @@PixelFusionProductions No I mean the Temple of Time that is in the sky, was on the surface previously. It's where Zelda dragon-ified herself. So it makes sense that the Bargainer statue is still underneath after the temple was put in the sky.

    • @PixelFusionProductions
      @PixelFusionProductions  10 місяців тому

      Dude, I know. The Zonai Temple of Time was, at least for a time, on the Great Plateau. You can see this in the Gerudo Assault memory. Once it was risen up into the sky, the Hylians built a new Temple of Time in the same spot. The thing you are missing though is that the Zonai Temple of Time is not physically above it's spot on the Great Platau, it is now situated by the Bottomless Pond to the east.
      Because the Temple was physically moved to a new location on the X Y axis after the ancient memories, this means that either A, a new statue moved to the Temple's new location due to the Hylia Statue in it, or B, the Temple of Time along with the Great Sky Islands, were moved to the position of the Plains Bargainer Statue.
      In my video, which invite you to rewatch since you seem to have misunderstood what I said, states that the Zonai Temple of Time may have originally been in the air above the Bottomless Pond, for a time, located to the surface during Rauru's reign as king, then returned to its original location in the air after Zelda changed into a dragon.

    • @PixelFusionProductions
      @PixelFusionProductions  10 місяців тому

      @@way2dawn853 If you look at memory 4 or 5, The Gerudo Assault, you can clearly see it on the great plateau. You can also trace it's location in memory 17, as the ancient sages are standing in front of the shrine of resurrection cave. Also screen shot comparisons of where Zelda is standing on the dias at the temple are 1 to 1 the same spot of the new Temple of Time on the modern great plateau.
      As for where the rest of the Garden of Time would fit... that is a bit more tricky...

    It seems that the ascend columns aren't actually having you ascend through the actual depths all the way to the surface and you need a special object to ascend to the surface surface

    • @PixelFusionProductions
      @PixelFusionProductions  11 місяців тому

      They absolutely are though! For example, under the dueling peaks, there is one that will take you all the way to the top of them. There are other spots in the depths as well where you can ascend through the ceiling to the overworld. The clear implication is that Link is swimming through solid matter until he surfaces above.
      The Zonai arm, or rather the device on it, is what is allowing for this ability. That doesn't change the fundamentals of what Link is doing.
