@@damodash6860 I’m a lefty and just bowled for the first time in years. At first I bowled with my right hand because it felt more comfortable and didn’t hit as much but when I switched over it felt awkward but I hit much better
Thank you for finally having a lefty on the videos. I always see the right handers perspective and suggestions. Our game is definitely different. Please have Packy or other lefties on so we can get both perspectives. We're not many but we're out there. Strike on.
There's a lot of good non-controversial stuff discussed here guys; good solid info too. I couldn't help but think though that you guys didn't mention much, if at all, the fact that most good lefties are excellent shot replicators - they have to develop the ability to repeat shots over and over again without deviation because their lanes transition so slowly throughout a block. Conversely on the right side the repetition of one's shot isn't always as important because reading the transition and making big adjustments throughout games and blocks is so much more of a prominent skill to master. Thoughts?
This is one of the most informative bowling videos that I have ever seen, and I'm especially appreciative for this as a left-handed bowler! Thank you both so much for teaching me about things that I have not even taken into consideration before! On a side note, I was an avid bowler in the early 2000s. I wasn't on a league, but at a couple of my favorite bowling alleys (one in Oak Park, Illinois and the other in Cicero Illinois...both of which are sadly gone now), anyhow I lived next door to the Cicero bowling alley and a couple miles from the Oak Park one, and I often bowled with people on the leagues before league practice or just with people on leagues, who were practicing and whatnot... anyhow, two great tips that I heard from more than a few individuals each were as follows: 1) "Work on picking up the spares, and the strikes will come." 2) (Regarding throwing a "hook") "Bring your hand up like you are 'shaking hands' with the pins." The latter usually involved a physical demonstration, but I found BOTH of these tips to be extremely helpful!
Thank you so very much for making this video! As a two handed lefty it has been difficult to learn from one handed right handed bowlers. Packy I really enjoy your ball reviews!
I am in St. Louis! I tried adapted bowling (for visually impaired) this year and have been learning as much as I can about the sport. It would be great to come watch a tournament some day
I can bowl well with both hands. I'm naturally a 1H Righty, but now I bowl 2H Lefty, and have bowled 1H Lefty in the past. For me the big difference in each side is the transition. On the left side, the shot is what it is, and isn't going to change very much. You can play whichever line you like, and not have to worry about other bowlers on your lane crossing your line. On the right side transition comes much faster... sometimes that's good, sometimes it's bad. Ever have a night where you shoot 150 - 250-125? You probably didn't just go into god mode that middle game, you likely didn't do much of anything different and the transition just fell into your lap.
I've never seen one of these videos so soon after it was uploaded (for what that's worth). As always, I enjoyed it. One of these days, I'll get back to enjoying bowling in person again. In the meantime, I'm settling for applying the tips from the videos in PBA Pro Bowling on the Nintendo Switch.
Thank you packy this really helps a lot trying to base my decisions around what moves I should make because most of my friends are righty and was wondering why I wasn’t getting similar reaction from left side and certainly helps my confidence knowing that most lefties are playing straighter angles thought maybe I was doing something wrong maybe now I can get out of my funk now if my bowling center will open 😝
As a lefty I took the traditional 2&3 arrow and threw it out the window. I definitely need to go back to the high school days when I threw like that. It was consistent average.. guess I’m tired of trying to reinvent the wheel.
As a lefty enjoyed the video! Years ago bowled scratch league 4 man team. We had two lefties and two righties. We lefties had the advantage of being able to talk about the transition and play off each other. When I had been lone leftie keeping up with the transition was harder.
Really enjoyed this one very much. Packet is growing on me even though he is a two hander. I am also left handed. I have my arsenal laid out so I don't have to make those big moves in. The third arrow is the farthest I have to move. After that it gets really uncomfortable. Please do more left handed tips on targeting when moving into the fourth arrow and beyond. Does Packy use the 3 point targeting when moving in or does he have a focal point.
I'm lefty been upgrading my arsenal slightly and slowly went from house balls to nice used balls but are right handed and fit well enough. I have the tiniest bit of hook and is mostly straight but the aim and choosing the pocket is pretty consistent went from 115 avg to 170
Another think to kinda chain into what packy was saying: as a lefty, you have to be comfortable with a few different hand positions and speeds to get the ball to read the right part of the lane. Sometimes you’re at a tournament and you might be right in the pocket but not carrying, and moving out of that spot or switching balls isn’t feasible because that pattern is only letting you play in that specific line, so you have to trick your hand to get it read more downlane or hit it to make it read earlier, sometimes getting around it or get softer with your speed is the answer, especially with urethane. Kinda rambling here, but sometimes sport patterns especially for lefties only give you one look, and that look is gonna stay the same all day, so you better be able to do that or you’re gonna go home early.
I disagree, the key reason a Lefty is different from a righty is rotation. Flush the toilet, which way does the water turn clockwise. The rotation of the earth causes that. So the earth is helping a lefty's ball rotate in that direction. A right the earth is hindering that rotation. A lefty is rolling down a hill that is slanted to the right, A right is rolling up a hill the slanted to the right. It's Called the Coriolis Effect, it is caused by the rotation of the Earth.
I am a lefty and i bowl right as well but dominant left. I got a Widow 2.0 from my pro shop and they drilled it. i am a no thumb bowler. I am not sure if they drilled in the wrong position or what but my widow doesn't move any thing like my buddies and he is a righty
I am a lefty and i have an older global 900 Honey badger at first i hated this ball until i saw a semi pro who is my league throw my ball for a few frames with my ball, its got some massive hook to it. i seriously need to learn how to throw this ball. as a lefty.
I'm a righty and I want to improve my bowling and what's the difference between a one handed and a two handed bowler because I definitely want to understand that
The short answer is two handed gives you more revs. 90% of two handers do not use their thumb so the opposite hand is acting in place of the thumb. The mechanics of doing this tends to cup the wrist naturally. The combination of a good wrist cup before the release and no chance of the thumb hanging up in the ball creates a consistent, powerful release.
one handers focus on controlling there form and motion while a 2 hander will most likely focus on trying to get as much ball speed and revs because they can take advantage of that more
I have just started bowling left handed due to shoulder issues in my right shoulder.....I'm at that age where surgery is out of the question. Now I'm trying to adjust to a 'new world'. Fortunately, I'm ambidextrous so it is not too difficult to make the transition......almost like being a 'beginner bowler' . . once I can get better, I'll pretty much have that whole side to myself as most of the bowlers in my league are 'rightees' ! ! !
I always hear your moves in terms of 2 and 1. As I grew up, my dad and other coaches would just tell me to move the feet and not the eyes necessarily unless there was some drastic stuff out there. What is the advantage to moving the eyes as well, and should every move include an eye move for the most part?
I was also taught to just move your feet by my dad back in the 70s. The problem with that strategy is you tend to increase your angle into the pocket which increases the chances to leave more corner pins. By using the 2:1 strategy, you maintain the correct angle to the pocket, and increase your odds on carrying the corners. It’s all about carry.
Try and add some more cutaways and graphics to the first like 7 minutes of the video. would love to see examples of the things you are talking about while you are talking about them. Just maybe a helpful editing tip so the viewer doesn’t get bored.

My buddy S Greiner says lefties have the advantage because they turn door knobs correctly and righties don’t. Therefore they have a lifetime of correct muscle memory. 🤔🤔😃😃
My two cents. I bowl with both arms. The ball rolls and hits the pocket better, much the same ase Eral Anthony's left handed. But I'm slightly better at spares right handed. But the ball rolls different. The only reason I would bowl league would be to use right hand to make more spares. I'm thinking to bowl one league left and another right. ? If I bowl against myself left vs right i score more often against right. But bowling right gives me a high score once in awhile. Now as for being balanced mentally, it's hard to say. But I do feel a dominance in one eye. And that's what makes me make better spares right handed. I don't see much of a left brain right brain dominance. I'm a an engine builder/machinist. But then I play an instrument. More than 40 years. More than anything, it's eye dominance.
