Went to a lot of games there. My " home away from home" Would love to see another game there. But now I can only dream. Love that place.

I loved watching the NL East teams battle. Philly and Pittsburgh were so cool to watch in the mid 70s til the 80s. Montreal was underrated. Felt bad for philly when they lost in those three straight NL championships

I spent my childhood in that place. I worked there one summer and you wouldn't believe the things they let me do. I was in the dugout when the phils won the 1983 NL pennant.

Watched the Phillies win in 1980 at the Vet. Boone and Rose with the foul ball catch right in front of us. I loved the Vet. I would have loved to see the BULL hit in CBP with the sky rockets he hit in the upper deck in the Vet.

The 8 year run from 1976 through 1983 was one of the greatest in baseball during that era or any other:
    >> 76 101-61 NL East Champions - Danny Ozark NL MOY
    >> 77 101-61 NL East Champions - Steve Carlton NL Cy Young Award
    >> 78 90-72 NL East Champions
    >> 79 84-78
    >> 80 91-71 NL East Champions / NL Champions / WS Champions - Mike Schmidt NL MVP / Steve Carlton NL Cy Young Award / Manny Trillo NLCS MVP / Mike Schmidt WS MVP
    >> 81 59-48 NL East Champions (1st Half) - Mike Schmidt NL MVP
    >> 82 89-73 - Steve Carlton NL Cy Young Award
    >> 83 90-72 NL East Champions / NL Champions - John Denny NL Cy Young Award / Gary Matthews NLCS MVP
6 NL East Championships* (1981 being a 1st Half title)
    6 playoff appearances
    2 NL Pennants
    1 WS Trophy
    1 MOY
    4 Cy Young Awards
    2 MVPs
    2 NLCS MVPs
    1 WS MVP

      1980 never forget it.. Truth be told though 76 77 78 79
THE ABSOLUTE MOST EXCITING TIME EVER TO BE A PHILLIES FAN.. THE THRILL OF ALMOST MAKING IT JUST TO LOSE TO THE REDS AND DODGERS IN THE NLCS.. SO CLOSE AND YET SO FAR..

The Vet....a dirty, smelly, disgusting place, and I loved every time there

Going to the Vet was an amazing experience. I remember being at the game Von Hayes hit the 2 home runs in the first inning. Also, I was at the game Hayes and Samuels hit back to back home runs in the first two lead off at bats. And of course the last game...it was like a funeral People wept the whole game telling stories

OMG that double header game that got rain delayed and the 2nd one didn't start till after one a.m. and how more ppl started filling the stadium as the bar closed and Mitch Williams wins the game with a base hit after 3 am, one of my favorite vet moments ever, only in philly

Guy says "it looked like a flying saucer, all different colored seats, AstroTurf cutouts around the bases. Beautiful, beautiful ballpark." The cookie cutter, multipurpose, circular, flying saucer looking stadiums are almost universally hated by everyone other than him. AstroTurf was terrible, cookie cutters were terrible. Like if he wanted to glorify the memories at Veterans Stadium, and say he'd miss it because of the memories, fine. But it's being way over the top nostalgic to call the physical Veterans Stadium nice in any way.

These videos are great! Do you happen to have any more recent games? Jim Thome milestone HR game? Cole Hamels debut? Ryan Howard 3 homer game? pretty much anything from 2001 to 2006?

Does anyone know what the song is played during the Wheeze Kids segment starting at 43:49. I have heard it before on NFL films but I have never been able to identify the artist or song. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Giles and the Phils always did this sort of effort so much better than the Mets.
Wadda'u expect from an outfit that wouldn't fire Jay Horowitz years ago.

This started the nonsense in baseball where cheap entertainment became more important than the actual game.

Aesthetically very true. The Linc has way better sight lines when it comes to seating and there’s a lot of amenities that the Vet couldn’t dream of having. But when it comes to atmosphere, say what you will about fan behavior but it was far more intimidating for opposing teams to walk into the Vet than the Linc. The 700 Level was infamous. Sure some of that was public urination and fighting the opposing team’s fans but there was also a passion that corporate interests stripped out whether by design or by accident when the Eagles changed stadiums.
