This supposed concern for "authenticity" shows how racist Mashed is to the Chinese-American working class at the same neglecting to see Chinese-American culture is authentic by itself.
I'm a Chinese person, and although some of the points in this video are pretty dumb, I do agree on the point that many Chinese dishes in America are not very authentic. Originally from Hong Kong, I came to the states a couple decades ago. Living here, I get used to some of the more local ways of preparing Chinese dishes....then I go back home to Hong Kong and the difference is night and day. It's not racist to say the stuff here in America is not authentic. Try telling a hispanic person that Taco Bell is "authentic" Mexican food LoL. Of course, if you like Taco Bell, and you like Chinese food in America, then good for you, eat whatever you want and forget what everyone else says.
The title is totally biased and highly discriminating. Having pasta in.an Italian restaurant (some pasta dishes only have pasta and no vegetables or meat) is no better as there is no difference having pasta in a Chinese or Italian restaurant, or in other words, in Asian or Western restaurants. The KEY POINT is we should stay away from carbohydrates as much as possible AND it is common sense that home cooking is normally healthier than street food.
9 out of 10 Chinese dishes from takeout restaurants are slathered in tasty oils and fried either in a pan/wok or deep frier. There is zero reason to bash solely on lo mein when almost none of these dishes are 100% authentic. It's like saying hot dogs made from chicken and pork shouldn't be ordered. It's still bad for you, but it's meant as an occasional treat, Karen. Let us treat ourselves, maybe we'll take a dietary supplement or two with it.
My brotha u and everybody else out here still eating Chinese food after the Coronavirus? I haven’t touched it since that virus came out. Pay attention brotha ✊🏽
Videos like this show the level of superiority that these youtubers feel. Nobody goes to get Americanized chinese food because they want authentic food... They go because it tastes good!
All this video did was inspire me to go buy some lo mein. If the only thing unauthentic about it here in America is the thicker sauce then I don’t give a damn. Also 🤷🏾♂️What restaurant doesn’t overprice their food when compared to the cost of materials
As an employee and the son of the owner of a Chinese restaurant I find this video sort of stupid Like legit “lo mein is unhealthy” just look at your goddamn American fast food restaurants and tell me that some noodles stir fried with sauce is more unhealthy than a Big Mac Disliked and shared on my discord server to show how stupid the media is
Best Lo Mein I have eaten was in down town Philadelphia a restaurant called the Red Dragon. It contained a soupy, mild spicy, garlic , onion, brown sauce. The noodles, tender but yet firm and the dish wasn't dry. You heat the lo mein up next day in same container and it tasted just like when you ordered it. Juicy not dry out noodles.
There's something very authentically American about what is probably a non-Chinese woman chiding Chinese American Takeout (which is often made by actual Chinese immigrants, unless you're ordering from a chain store like Panda Express) as "inauthentic", comparing fast food to the way lo mein is cooked in restaurants and home cooking. Imagine a foreign documentary about how hamburgers aren't authentic American cuisine, pointing out the difference between McDonalds' preparation vs the loving way your Dad grills burgers in the backyard. That'd be pretty silly, wouldn't it?
Wow! This is like a hit piece on Chinese restaurants and lo mein. I never actually order it but I feel like I should now, at least once, just on principle 🤣.
Was gonna make a snarky comment about how if people are ordering Chinese take out, they don’t care about themselves, but then I saw you mention making it at home. Kudos.
It's the how Lo Mein is made from restaurant in the US. Lo Mein is served very differentky in Hong Kong. In HK, Lo Mein is noodle soup type of smaller noodles without the soup, but with very thin dipping sauce.

I'm genuinely so over the way they and others dismiss Chinese American culture and cuisine.
This 🙌
Its like Mexican food, it varies from house to house and if you like how it tastes then its as authentic as it needs to be. Good preaching.

Hahahahaha, that was irony at its best.
These are all excellent, researched, and well-presented arguments. But I'm going to continue to eat lo mein whenever I want.
I was expecting them to say “the meat is roadkill raccoon” or something. This seems like a let-down.
Lol. Maybe down south, somewhere.
tiggle5485 well that would suffice for like five orders per day soooo not a very good source of meat
It’s dog lol
Ashley Kleinvehn Americans sure love to eat dogs lol

Depends on how you home cook it, anyhoo...

Obviously a Chinese restaurant made Mashed upset. Probably because they messed up there lo mein order lol

Lo Mein tastes too good for me to stop ordering it from restaurants.
People don’t order it for authenticity. They order it for what you first said. It’s tasty.
I have never seen anybody's headstone that says 'Death by eating Lo Mein from a Chinese Restaurant'

What's the best thing to grab off the menu in a Chinese restaurant?
Sweet and sour pork, General Tso's, and lo mein because it is authentic Chinese-American food and this channel is racist
