    2:00 That's not a PiXiu(貔貅),it's a BaXia(霸下), it got turtle sheild on the back.
    PiXiu is the symbol of army, BaXia loves to carry heavy stuff like monument, they are very different.

      No, the guide is bad. 小(pronounced as Xiao, meaning "small")笼(Long)包(pronounced as Bao, meaning "to wrap" or "wrapped") is little dragon balls? Excuse me?! 笼 is the bamboo cooker that you steam the buns in. It shares the same pronunciation as 龙(pronounced as Long, meaning "dragon"), but has nothing to do with dragon at all. Chinese characters have two essential dimensions, shape(or form) and pronunciation. The meaning of a character can come from either one. The shape of 笼 is ⺮ which comes from 竹 meaning bamboo. The pronunciation of 笼 comes from 龙 and that's it. The name 小(Xiao)笼(Long)包(Bao) comes from the fact the cooker is relatively small compared to 包子 cooked with normal sized 笼.
      Also, others have pointed out the Pi Xiu and Ba Xia thing.

    • @DD-oz9tj
      @DD-oz9tj 5 років тому

      Emre C 1:30 It is called “霸下BaXia” not “貔貅PiXiu” .
      BaXia like to carry heavy things so it used to have some written stone on its shell.
      BaXia is the third son of the dragon but PiXiu is not the son of the dragon.

    1:30 That is not Pi Xiu - 貔貅, the one that carries the stone stele are called Pi Xi - 贔屭 or Ba Xia - 霸下... The tour guide really need do a bit more study before he start poping wrong information everywhere...
    Pi Xiu were know as the Metal Eater, they are one of the animal specie that formed "The armies of the six beasts" that served the Yellow Emperor. Base on historical books, Pi Xiu is a type of horned leopard, and often been used as a reference of army or warriors.
    Pi Xi is one of the nine child of dragon, he enjoy carry mountains on his back and wondering around. In Chinese culture, when a stone stele is carved to record the great deed of a person, people often make the base stand to look like Pi Xi, as a tradition that dated back to around 2000 BCE.

    YU Garden is over commercialized and no longer authentic. If you walk about one kilometer on south, there are still many narrow streets with a lot small hole on the wall eateries catering to the old Shanghainese. Those streets weren't modernized or beautified as much so you may still peek a bit of live of the past.
