@Pelvic Empowerment I recently noticed that whenever I eat bananas I tend to poop a lot too, could you do a video about that and possible other foods that seem to trigger it? Maybe as an extension to this series if you make it a series that is :) I'm very curious!

I'm a man, and I'd had lots of irregular bowel problems (diarrhea) for a while. I finally started systematically cutting certain foods out of my diet to try to find a culprit, but nothing really worked. Almost as a last resort because I'd run out of foods to test, I stopped drinking coffee, and the results were dramatic. Within days, my problem pretty much went away. I was stunned. I have to say, I really miss my coffee - I used to drink it black, usually three or four cups a day - but I like my calm bowels even more.

I can drink coffee and get bad effects from the Lectins of the bean and also take a caffeine tablet and get unwanted bowel movements. There’s so many things wrong with black coffee and I wouldn’t want to get started about how bad it is with milk.

What a fun and interesting video! I love the visuals you use when talking about the Studies, it really helps me visualize better! I'm also a coffee pooper, no matter when I drink coffee. if I drink a cup at 6am, 11am or another one at 5pm I'll be heading to the bathroom within 30 mins afterward😄
I thoroughly enjoyed hearing about the Pavlov theory, i find it so interesting to learn and theorize about why the body does the things it does!

I'm so glad the visuals are helpful for you! I've been learning Canva over the last couple of months and trying to use the platform to add more visuals to my videos for that very reason, so I'm really happy they're helping!
And how interesting! First of all, thank you for sharing so openly. And second of all, I feel like I was resistant to having Pavlov'd myself because I can drink coffee later in the day and not poop, but that doesn't mean you couldn't have Pavlov'd yourself!
And SAME. The human body is SO fascinating to me, and it's still such a mystery. Even though we've learned so much about it, it really is a "the more you know the less you know" kind of thing, in my opinion.

So, I suppose in not supporting the final Theory is when - so my boyfriend is definitely a coffee responder - when he quits coffee he actually experiences mild constipation. So he always feels like he becomes too dependent on coffee for his morning movement🙃 which is why he's currently on a not drinking coffee kick because he feels first humans were so dependent on so many things why add to the list. Super interesting video thanks for sharing

How interesting! I don't experience constipation when I stop drinking coffee, but that doesn't mean that he couldn't have the sort of dependence that you're describing. It's just a testament to how different we all are, even when we respond similarly to the same substances! I hope he's able to get his bowel function back to normal off of coffee, and I'm so glad you enjoyed the video! It was really fun to make this one ❤️

Enjoyed this, I always visualized coffee energizing my intestines. I noticed when I don't drink coffee daily I am more of a coffee responder. A few years ago when I was drinking it daily I stopped responding. For some reason espresso seems to get me going more than regular coffee. 🤎💩

    • @PelvicEmpowerment

First of all, I love that visualization. Secondly, I didn't think about the effect of consistent coffee drinking vs. drinking coffee every once in a while... but now that you've brought it up, what an excellent point! I wonder if some of our bodies get used to the coffee and its laxative effect lessens over time. That definitely happens with other substances! And maybe it's the higher caffeine content in espresso? But honestly who knows 😂
I'm so glad you enjoyed the video, and I hope that you and Jake and all of your creatures are happy, healthy, and well ❤️

Hot Coffee on an empty stomach in the morning definitely stimulates my bowel and makes me poop. I make it into a routine that helps me stay regular each day!
Oh and coffee at night does not make me poop. I've tried it to help me go but it does not work

    • @PelvicEmpowerment

Thank you so much for sharing so openly! We're similar, in that coffee definitely helps stimulate my bowels in the morning, but doesn't seem to have the same effect later in the day, especially if I've already pooped. I'm sorry that coffee at night didn't have the outcome you were hoping for, and I hope that you're able to get your bowels functioning exactly how you want them to ❤️

I have noticed coffee defiantly helps with me. I have had constipation all my life. Much more so since I was diagnosed with parkinsons. I have just began drinking coffee after several months not drinking it at all. Bingo some times before I am finished, or very soon after, I am off for a quick and easy 2 minuets on the porcelain. I take 20 to 30 minuets to drink my cup. Instant coffee, 2 sugars, tiny amount of milk.

Dear Tori, thank you so, so much for sharing your research with us!
For my part, I definitely consider myself being a coffee responder, but not always in the same way. I love the taste of coffee, but it doesn't always make me feel good!
So first to say, in most cases, I do feel a kind of getting wide awake and having to poop pretty soon after (rather diarrhoeic, to be specific;) ).
But when I tried to use it as a laxative in times when I was constipated (which relates a lot to being stressed in my case, and then I can do as much exercise, yoga twists or drinking coffee, even taking laxatives, my colon just wouldn't let go for days!) -it didn't work!!
Furthermore, I can definitely agree with the comment of.... that the frequency of drinking coffee does have a huge impact on my response to it.
Like, if I have coffee (one to two a day is enough) a couple days in a row, the effects will become smaller and smaller (so in stressful times, the pushing effect AND the laxative effect will decrease after two or three days) but also the side effects (feeling rather skakily than good-mooded alert or being completely down when I stop the coffee consumption after a couple days) will grow bigger.
When I don't have coffee for some days, weeks or even months (I quit completely on it for like 3 months because I wanted to find out if it had something to do with my IBS symptoms - no, by the way;) ), one cup of the softest coffee made me feel like WAAAHH!
On the laxative effect again, I have been researching a bit because I wondered why coffee sometimes even seems to support my bloating/constipation and I have never heard of other people with the same experience. In fact, the people I spoke to about this topic either didn't notice a significant thing or were female pooping coffee responders.
I found some articles that coffee or caffeine could have this stimulating effect on the colon and therefore support pooping - yep.
It could however also have a stimulating effect just on the organism as a whole, causing mental alertness while simultaneously shutting down less necessary parts like digestion! This would fit to my physically rather constipating though mentally alerting reaction on coffee in stressy times!
    On the caffeine/decaf topic:
I have bought an organic decaf coffee and noticed that it does affect me less than normal coffee, especially in the mental response. However I can't say there's NO gastrocolic reaction at all - so I definitely have the feeling it has to do something with some acids or tannins in the coffee beans.
So I try to have coffee only every other day or even less often in order to keep my digestion and physical happy and stable and be able to really enjoy it!:)
I am curious if there are other coffee responders having similar experiences like me!
Thank you for all your great content, you really help(ed) me a lot, especially in becoming more positive towards my gut!
    Rahel

    • @PelvicEmpowerment
      @PelvicEmpowerment  3 роки тому

Hi Rahel! First of all, I am so happy that my content has been helpful for you and your relationship with your gut. I can totally get behind the idea that coffee is stimulating not only to the intestines but to the organism as a whole. I love that you've been practicing trial and error and figuring out what works and what doesn't for you and your unique GI tract and that you've learned so much about your responses to stress -- so interesting that frequency has an effect not only on the coffee's laxative quality, but also its side-effects in your case! It's also interesting to learn that coffee isn't a "trigger" food for your IBS as it seems to be so commonly for others.
I bet there are other coffee-responders who have similar experiences as you, and I'm glad you know that so that you can truly enjoy it when you do drink it ❤️

I noticed because I was using cold brew to stay awake at night while doing my very first finals week way back in freshman year. Before that, I hadn't drank any at all (hated the flavor actually), but the coffee shop's soda machine was out so no Diet Mt Dew for me.
Eventually, I got the flavor where I liked it with cream and chocolate, so I drank it instead of the soda.
    Que the stomach issues.
I thought it was just because I hadn't drank it it my whole life, that it was just irritating to a novice stomach. Until three years later, it was still happening so I googled it and discovered it was like, a thing. I only drank it in the evening, since the caffeine helped my brain function through the ADHD haze of hating homework. I was enough of a morning person to go without in the morning, but to be fair, in earlier days of college I was working out before homework. Not so much right now, thanks to not having a gym that's safe to go to.
