I spent about a year and a half being over consumed with motherhood. One thing I learned after becoming a mom is to give yourself permission to step away from motherhood. Being a good mom means recognizing that your own health and happiness directly impacts your child’s, and taking care of yourself is the first step towards taking care of them.

The wording is a bit awkward. I would never step away from motherhood, since once a person becomes a mother, they're always going to carry that biologically and psychologically. Taking small breaks to care for oneself is definitely important. We need all the help we can get from our family, tribe, or village which is almost non-existent in modern times.
A lot of moms struggle because of these, but we were never meant to take on 100% of the nurturing.
I'm part of the privileged minority that gets to be a full-time housewife and mother, and I'm grateful for it, but I definitely have my struggles. I would be worse off if I didn't have my mom with us 24/7 or if my husband wasn't self-employed and able to have such an adaptable weekly schedule. Help makes a difference.

@@NormieNeko I had a mental health crisis after a postpartum medical emergency when my son, my first child, was two days old. I could not physically care for him or even hold him safely, which broke my heart. I needed tons of therapy, which forced me have to be away from him. I dreaded leaving the house to do rehabilitation. I even dreaded leaving the room to do my rehab homework.
However, everyone was telling me I needed to go away so I that I could heal and care for baby; it was for his sake. I had so much guilt, but every moment I was healing I had my child's face in my mind driving me.
While I was away I tried to pretend he was in my arms. I focused on being able to hold him again, and that's one of the biggest reasons I got better. Every moment I'm not near him caring for myself we are still connected through our hearts. He is loved even though I can't care for him every moment. I have to tell myself that's all that matters so I can continue to get better and stay better

Jenn, would love if you'd be open to sharing some insights in a future video on your PCOS diagnosis, if you had irregular cycles, symptoms/experiences, and your overall PCOS specific health journey? Thank you for everything you continue to share, giving me hope that you can manage with healthy lifestyle choices and be able to get pregnant, and helping reassure that I don't need to be terrified of life changes if I become a Mom someday. ❤

In my early 20s, I began to have a very irregular cycle. My periods would go on for three weeks at a time. I was bleeding more than not. The doctor prescribed me birth control when I was 23 and I kept with it until I was 29. I went to my OBGYN who found some cysts in my uterus. I was told to get a blood test and they found unusually high levels of androgens. The doctor said it was likely PCOS, but I would need to return for more testing. I was dealing with an immense amount of stress and self-loathing then. Afterward, the pandemic happened and I couldn't go back to the hospital. During 2020, I continued to not take birth control, but I developed a grounding self-care routine and lifestyle. Then at the end of the year, I was pregnant!

Hi! I hope this helps. I was also kind of diagnosed with PCOS at 25. The thing is I had very painful and heavy periods randomly since the age of 17. The pain was so bad, I could faint. I kinda thought I had endometriosis then, but it wasn’t confirmed. I learned to manage the pain eventually.
Then at 25 my cycle became strange, not really irregular, but I would get random light bleedings out of nowhere. So we checked and it turned out I had a couple ovarian cysts. Which again made doctors think that I may have endometriosis/pcos. Then I was put on medication and birth control. Cysts cleared out in a couple months and never came back since. This again confused the doctors because neither endometriosis nor pcos behaves that way.
Later on I was going through very frequent ultrasounds to understand what the heck is happening. So the conclusion was that I have multifollicular ovaries (which isn’t a complete pcos). And the doctors said it would be pretty hard for me to get pregnant still.
But the thing is I got pregnant on the 1st try at the age of 28. I just used my body temperature method to check for ovulation. I also used some multivitamins to boost fertility.
So, yeah, this all may be challenging and confusing. But you really can manage this diagnosis. Sorry, if this is too long. Just thought I’d share my experience and tell you that it doesn’t have to be hard. It depends on the case of course. But you can live fully with this diagnosis ❤

In my culture men typically don’t play or take care of babies so it’s typical for dads to be pretty detached. I learned this until high school because my dad was always there playing with us since we were babies, taking us to the movies, making us breakfast and doing lots of things along with my mom. I’ve had such a great childhood with an emotionally present dad and it’s so nice to see Ben doing just that❤❤ I feel like I’m watching my family’s old tapes by the way he plays and speaks to Lennon ❤❤

He’s such a big boy now!! So cute! ❤️
The brushing teeth song reminds me of a song that my siblings and I used to sing when it was bath time. “Come and have your bath tidi. Come and have your bath tidi tidi” 🎶 (tidi is the beat) then we’d add “have our bath together, have our bath together” when we want to do that.
I’m most definitely going to sing them for my kids. 😂

This is wonderful to see but I'd love a mention that you have wealth and a nanny to support you (I know you have acknowledged that in the past). The advice you're given to prioritize yourself is alot easier when you have two parents who work relatively lower stress jobs (by that, I mean, compared to most people I know who work for corporations for less pay and more restrictions on their time) plus expensive childcare and a safe, large home. Even the littlest thing like having the bathroom counterspace to make it easier to brush your baby's teeth is out of reach for a lot of people. Im not trying to put you down but just it's great to also acknowledge the privilege to even say, I am able to prioritize things like exercise.

    • @HanBang
      @HanBang Рік тому

Yep, it also helps that Ben's a great partner and hands on father who sees his role as 50/50 with Jenn. There's definitely situations where families are rich enough to hire help, there are father figures who don't prioritize 'being' a dad or partner. They've worked very hard for the life they live both financially and emotionally with their inner work. It's nice to see partners who figure it out together.

yess I get worried how many comments say "wow jenn you've made me realise having a baby might be easier than I thought". Think about it a bit more critically y'all, happy for jenn but wealth, support, flexible jobs & wfh + she's pretty much being paid to promote a nice calm parenthood. It's lovely to watch but I don't recommend people to change their viewpoint on having kids which is a HUGE decision, cause of an influencers video lmao
