I don’t know what we would do without you. Thanks
lol. Thx. You guys are the real hero’s.
This was great! Removed the great mystery. Keep the videos coming, we appreciate them!
Idea for a continuation: replacing the topper seals.
I have a video coming out about a convertible top. Should be covered in there.
Great video, thanks for making. If you are putting on new seals on the topper, factory tech book recommends 7-10 ft-lb when installing hardware. Just a FYI for those that want to know.
I knew the 87-91 was 7-10ft lbs. A Ford tech told me it was 10-12lb. years ago. Sadly most people won’t be replacing those seals….
@@BroncosandPartsGarage wasn't questioning your knowledge, I made the safe bet that you already knew. Just leaving info for anyone that was searching. Not too many places online that call out the proper torque spec. so the seals don't get crushed. Thanks again for the great process vid.
@@austingray4251 never thought that. Glad you shared. Between you and me, don’t you think 7 pounds seems kind of light?
@@BroncosandPartsGarage yeah slightly , I have tried to target 8.5-9. I can understand why you don't just go as tight as you can if you want to take the top on and off multiple times. But if you just want new seals and never to take the top off again, apply max ugga-dugga.
i also question the seals I can source today vs factory in 93, I am sure there is a difference that would shift that spec.
@@austingray4251 true. My HF power ratchet goes to about 25ft. So when it stops, I stopped. Lol
Yes, pro-tip is use anti-seize when applying the new or old ones! Use a lot. Snug the top/front bolts before the rears. It will help seal the gasket on the roofline.
A lanolin-based spray like Woolwax or Fluid Film will also protect the threads that are exposed to elements.
All that and more Covered in video!! Thanks!!
Thanks for your wisdom, have 95 Bronco Eddie bauer that I inherited from my brother, lost him in Iraq in 06.
Anyway I really appreciate your knowledge, makes it easier to do some repairs.
Thank you. Hit me up anytime. Email in description.
Great video oh wise one!! You are the guru of all things Bronco! Lol
Lol. Thank you, but no, m still learning.
Thanx for the video. Nicely done
Thanks. Fun making it.
Awesome channel great knowledge learn a lot I have a 93 Ford bronco lxt
Thank you. Lots more to come!!
Thanks for the excellent block of instruction on this. I have a few rain water leaks back there that I've gotta figure out. Sealing from the exterior isn't working. Water is leaking in right along the base of the topper.
Be sure to fasten down the three bolts attached to the roof first then the B pillar’s then the rear bed rails
Una consulta si es que aún está, tengo una y cruje mucho se le cambia algunas gomas ?
Such a big help. Well done!
Thank you
Great Channel man! I have a 95 Bronco XLT Sport I'm going through and fixing the little things you have shown in your videos. I would love to see some content on fixing/repairing the cargo light that's above the rear glass.
Thanks!! We usually just replace them as the switch corrodes from the 3rd brake light seal leaking. They are pretty cheaply made and I’ve yet to see a harness go bad unless someone removes their top and forgets to plug harness back in.
didnt c the top come off.......
lol......
good video.....
Michigan Maynard! Lol. That’s the easy part!
If your alone and you have a shop with some open rafters you can take four ratchet straps one on each corner I’m small man had no help wanted top off been doing it like that ever since alone just make sure it’s high enough up in the air before pulling out from under it and hook straps to bottom bc if not you will mess up your weather stripping on front of top
I bought a forklift. Lol
Keep them coming!!
doing my best with time available
Killer info/ keep up the good work!
will do
I could use your advice on my 85 bronco hardtop.
How can I help?
Id love to buy a set of these from you i hate the anti tamper lol
thanks!
The bolts or the clips
Do you know or have a link to the screws that hold down the transmission cover that's between the front seats? They have the 5/16th head 😅 I only have like two right now lol
Email me
I wonder if the push pins would be worth replacing with the ones you screw in? Gives them a little more life from being forced in and out so much? I’m not sure!
I’ve never seen screw in style pins. They are unique to the bronco. I’ve painted black ones and used vinyl wrap on a few.
Awesome video!!! I have all the hardware from an old Bronco but couldn't remember how the black anchor pieces got reinstalled. Now I can install the old trim (and replace the hardware) into a different Bronco. Thank You.
No problem!!
Hey man can you make a video of all the top weather strip? I know where most goes.
That’s in the pipeline
Buen programa
Gracias
Wow, great info. Why can't you be my neighbor? I have a question looking at the seat belt removal. If you decided to run this Bronco without the top to take friends to the lake or whatever how would the rear passengers utilize the seatbelts being they are designed to mount to the roof?
You’d source lap belts from a 87-91 bronco (they did not have shoulder belts) or install a cage and some tabs for the seatbelt bolts.
the bolts that hold down the trim clips dont seem to be catching the threads on my 94. i bought it used last week and noticed none of the side rails bolts are actually fastened. should i disconnect all the bolts first and try to reseat the camper so the holes actually line up? where should i start? thanks!
Try using a small Phillips screwdriver to align the nuts up in the body. Also secure the upper cab bolts first
My pins all cracked!
Old and brittle
Replace with standard panel pins you can buy on Amazon. I think the link is in description. Or in the door panel removal video. Good luck
The hardware that the tamper proof bolts thread into broke away from the frame, as well. I'm just not having an easy time with this!
Go to a small local hardware and ask for “extruded U bolts” They are M 81.25 thread pitch. Home Depot carries them too. Sometimes when you loosen them they move. Try using a thin screwdriver to line those extra did you bolts back up
Find my email address in the description and shoot me an email with a picture
I have an old 1984 Bronco plow truck and always have issues with the rear windows always being fogging up. Wondering if you've done any permanent removals of the rear roof? I was thinking of removing it, and installing an old pickup bed cover, then fabricating a window (likely plexiglass) so I don't have to rely only on my mirrors (+ the cab will be quicker to warm up during our cold AK winters). Looking for someone that's done something similar for ideas.
For starters you can install a rear defrosted window. Or add a glue on kit. A pickup bed cover won’t for the body lines unfortunately. Another possibility would simply be adding a second battery, isolator and a 12v electric heater used for semi cabs. Not trinket auto parts store heaters.
I rounded 3 of mine off real well :(
Cut em. Remove top. Weld nut on and finish removing.
My question is if I have my back seat full with top off will my two back seat passengers get seat belt tickets since the two side seat belts are disconnected at the top ?
Two choices. Install lap belts from earlier generation Bronco, roll bar with tabs. Otherwise tickets are a possibility. As is, no rear third brake light.
Good job on this video. I use to have an 88 XLT and my daughters loved it. Now I got an 94, I love the body style but I feel like the 88 interior was more solid.
I got a question for you. Do you know where can I get the side brackets that holds the toper to the pillar of the cab? as always your input is greatly appreciated
thank you!. The 5th gene interior is great! lol I sell the vertical brackets. email me
Thank you for video. How do you find the clips? Just purchased 1996 and realized 1 clip
Email me. In video description
Great video!!!
what if you can't find those small brackets on the sides, or the big brackets on the vertical parts? I took my top off at the beginning of the summer, but can't find those dang brackets.
What year? I sell em
@@BroncosandPartsGarage 1991.
@@BroncosandPartsGarage it's a 1991. i'm assuming you ship the parts, can you get them here by Friday?
Do you sell the brackets for an 89?
So I am missing the metal pieces where the plastic screws go into to hold the plastic trim for the topper, anywhere I can buy those?
I think I just responded to your email?!?
Where can I buy a spoiler? And how much do they sell for? Also Are you selling any?
They are Lund Windjammers. Haven’t been made in 20 years. I sell them used. Email me.
Very helpful video. Do you have any of those metal pin clip things for sale? My top has been removed before I got it and a few of those clips are missing.
Yes I do.
@@BroncosandPartsGarage Do we message you on FB to order this stuff?

@@BroncosandPartsGarage winner in California I'm getting ready to put my hardtop on would I be able to order some clips the hardware in the gasket for the hardtop for me please let me know I would really appreciate it thank you
I only have them for 87-91 right now
What is the tool you used to get the bolts out called?
Tamper resistant t40 torx bit and a cordless rachet
Nice truck where could I get those moldings at the bottom of the doors
Online or Jeffs bronco graveyard. The repops do not have the rubber seal though.
@@BroncosandPartsGarage thank you
I've read about that 3rd brake light causing issues with the automatic transmission when it burns out. Does removing the wiring resolve this issue?
Not that I’m aware of. I would retain it. Just don’t use an LED bulb back there either.
I gotta 88 I put new weatherstripping.i got the full kit from bronco graveyard. I put new stripping for the can and hardtop. The issue I am having is now I can't get the holes on the front of the hardtop to align with the holes on the cab. Is there a certain way to install the hardtop, like at an angle or do I need to push it down to get the holes to align? Any help or advice would be appreciated. Thanks
You do need to nose the front of the topper on a slight angle fwd to line it up. I’m guessing your new seals are firm and preventing a smooth line up. I’d get some help and compress those new seals.
Hi, I need those hardware clips that the push pins go into. Do you have any? I have the two long brackets that are on the front, I’m mssing the bolts for these brackets, are they anything special?
This entire video showed how to replace the bolts and what size to use. I have a few of the clips
@@BroncosandPartsGarage yeah, not sure why I asked the bolt question, you have it in the vid. I could use some clips.
@@crshirts lol. No worries. How many do you need? My email: n2kpi@yahoo.com
What have you used to cut the bolt mine stripped
Once I get the screw backed out far enough, I cut them with a sawzall if they’re stripped out. We usually apply heat and they will come out but don’t melt your seals or burn your fiber glass top.
I couldn’t get it backed out
Is this the same for a 1991?
The process is the same with the exception - you use a number two Phillips screwdriver to remove the plastic trim. The orm
Bolts are a smaller diameter so you’ll need to replace them with the appropriate hardware. It’s a great upgrade.
Where can I find the metal tabs? Mine are missing
I sell them. Email me. It’s in video description
does anyone know where I can purchase a hardtop for 89 Bronco near Florida?
Post this in the Broncos And Parts Garage FB group. Or check local bone yards for trucks
Do you know of a way to get some sort of seatbelt for the rear seat to still have 3 people in the back with the top off?
you have three options. One is to get a bench seat from a fourth generation bronco with the three lap belts. 87-91. The next choice is to install a roll cage and put seatbelt tabs on the side. The third choice and a popular one, is installing the third row of a Chevy Tahoe seat. Those benches have the seatbelt built into the head rest of the bench. They do sell kits on eBay to install them
Awesome thank you! Also if you could make a video about installing a lightbar or something that would be amazing if that’s up your alley I just don’t know where to run my wires through to the cab. I have a 96 as well
Thru a few grommets already running thru firewall.
@@joshhind4452 installing a 30” light bar behind grill next month
where can i get the extruded u-bolts?
hardware stores and home depot
Have you used Ez lift to raise the topper?
Also has optional tent.
no never heard of it
need some of the trim push pins. do you have any light grey ?
Yes
Took your work for the bolt lengths and to 4 long ones were all to short:( it ok tho i just reused the old ones.
Then you didn't order the correct bolts lol. Or put them in the proper holes. Sorry man. I've done it a dozen times
What year is your bronco?
1996
