Try buying a propane filter that screws into the heater itself and then you screw the hose onto the filter. We had the same issue and the filter fixed it right away
I’ve only ever caught one walleye I’m in Utah so trout is my religion but your open water walleye fishing videos helped me catch the only walleye I’ve ever caught. Keep up the great work!!!
Fly fishing for trout I assume out there in the mountainous areas? That is absolutely on my bucket list! Between movies and fishing shows, especially the fishing shows, it is absolutely a dream of mine to go on a trout fishing excursion! I bought a fly rod a few years back and tried out fly fishing in the Black Hills. Struck out that day, but it was still a lot of fun, so hoping to do it again with someone who knows what they are doing!!!
I have a regular Mr. Buddy heater and keep all my top vents open and it always suddenly shuts off after a couple hours or even sooner if I run it hot. I finally figured out that the o2 senors are super sensitive and because the heater doesn't use a method to draw air to it the oxygen was getting depleted at the floor and shutting the heater off so I jammed a soda can under the skirt to allow fresh air at floor level and the heater never went out again over the next 12 hours.
I'm having issues with my flex also. When it's really cold out, it doesn't want to spark to start the pilot. Also doesn't want to light when hooked to 20 lb tank. Works fine on the 1 lb tank once it's warm.
Buy the hose that mr buddy makes, they use a different rubber that doesn’t break down eliminating the need for a filter. Aside from once or twice needing to use a 1lb to start it I’ve used my big buddy lots with minimal problems. I’m sure the flex is long gone but may be the problem
Bring a torch with you. I got a small pen size one that I keep with my tackle box. When the buddy doesn’t want to start I just blast it with the torch for a few minutes and your good to go. Sometimes the area gets moisture from being outside.
I’m glad you’re conscientious about getting “too close” to others while setting up, but from what I could tell, you were definitely NOT too close to others! That was a highly respectable distance!!
I take a bendy bic lighter and heat the little thermister element up that the little pilot flame heats up to help aid the pilot lite process. Keep it going for like 30 seconds and then let er rip. I’ve also went back to scheels and returned my flex and went back to the big buddy. Been running solid for years
Gotta run that filter when using refillable tanks brotha. Unfortunately small particles can get into the tanks and then is just bad news for those heaters. Good luck with it man. Love the videos!
Great video. I put a filter from the hose to the heater and it always works well. I do have issues with the 1 lb tanks freezing but I just use the big tank with filter all the time now.
Mr. Buddy heaters have a sensor that turns off the heater if it thinks the heater tipped over. lol.. also my brother has the flex heater and he had the same problem this past weekend. It worked great and then all of a sudden it just turned off and he couldn't get it to turn back on. I have the big buddy and never had an issue with it.
Jon the heater issue i have had also and so have others i know theres something wrong with the hose thats running to your tank the piece that threads from your hose into the mr buddy is the problem we found out u almost gotta back it off like a half a turn from tight its like resticting the flow of propane.
I might know what’s wrong with the heater. With my big buddy, if I turn the large 20# tank on too fast it trips the diaphragm in the regulator (In The heater) and when I light the heater just fludders and shuts off. What I have to do is shut off the tank (with pilot on) and run out the line. Then very slowly open the valve on the tank and re light works every time. But if you using the hose with regulator (on the hose) and quick connect disregard this.
Always bring a sunflower heater with me 🤷♂️ had this happen to me during hunting season. So I bring the sunflower with me. Plus is really small and a great backup
Hey Jon those heaters will go out if they tip over or not like leavel!! I no if I move my big buddy heater it will definitely go out every time!! I have also heard lots of others having trouble with the flex heaters!! Some say they can’t run it on the 20lb bottle and some have had to had a different regulator!! You might check those things out??? Make sure the line isn’t plugged up or a crushed line maybe?? Let me no what you figured out??? That is why I haven’t baught one yet!! It seems as if they are having issues with the first ones out!!!
Jon.... get a cheap sunflower heater that mounts right to the 20lb tank just in case... those things are indestructible. Put a filter on the hose for your buddy heater too tho.
I always run with 2 heaters these days, being all excited to fish and finding out your heater doesn't work is a huge buzz kill. Mr heater putting out that flex was a huge flop, no personal experience but I've heard nothing but issues. Buddy and big buddy for the win I guess.
Wish this came out a few months ago when I got the flex I have used it once so far with no issues fingers crossed when I take it ice fishing in a fee weeks
Ice camped last night on what I’m pretty sure was the same lake. Saw a similar tent coming off the lake this morning. My friends and I had great luck last night.
I've had issues with my big buddy heater. It actually wasn't the heater. It was the pressure valve in the hose. I would disconnect it to release the pressure and then reconnect. Sometimes it worked sometimes I had to do it multiple times until it did
Bro. You a trooper for hanging in that long. Been in that situation before and it sucked. I dont have the buddy flex but have been running the big buddies for years. Seems like when its really cold i sometimes have to purge out the quick connect. Usually works afterwards. For cooking I just use the mr heater cooker which is also can be used for heat. Anyways bro. Keep those videos coming
Had a couple friends come out to fish with me at cascade for perch and they had the exact same problem and there's was pretty new like 3rd or 4th they used it
@@chronie21 hasn't been that great this season.. all the pressure and fish getting took over the last 5 or 6 years Is starting to add up and take effect
ive been having an issue with my big buddy this year. found out the the hose was getting frozen, put it on the truck defrost for about 5 min on high fixed the prob.
You need to use a hose with a regulator or buy a fuel filter. 20lbs tanks have too much pressure for a regular hose witch is causing rubber/ plastic build up. A regulator will regulate the pressure so you wont have that build up. I have bought 5 and all the same till i figured out the issue. I feel the pain bro, i was stuck at deer camp in 16 degree weather in a fire restriction zone. iv learned to always pack a 0 degree sleeping bag just for emergency.
Hola amigo, me gustan tus videos. don't leave your heater outside when it's not in use it catches moisture in the cold, the same thing happened to me until I discovered this. If it happens to you again, put it in your truck with the heater at maximum speed. leave it on the front seat for 30 minutes, after that it will work just fine. remember to store your heater in a warm place.
The buddy flex has only been a pain in the ass even out if the box. Great design, but even with the one pound propane tanks it just never worked right.
It’s usually not the heater these days it’s the propane company add like water or something to it because I had the same situation where it worked at the house but not on the ice with a mister buddy heater
i always bring either my girlfriends nail polish remover or a lil bit of rubbing acohol and some q-tips when me buddy heater doesnt start and i just clean the pilot hole with the alcohol and qtips and it normally starts working right after!
I don't think I've heard anything good about the buddy flex heater.. my pilot light will not stay lit at all either. Tried multiple different things, no luck. Literally will not work after less than a year and they won't let me send it back.. obviously. Definitely safe to say, 1/10 wouldn't recommend. Jah feel?
I have to admit......I do alot of overnights and the flex is the worst. I still swear by the big buddys. I also had a CO reading twice from it so now its used as a booster but not on overnight.
You should make a video with Mav and Murray next time you are In Minnesota
Try buying a propane filter that screws into the heater itself and then you screw the hose onto the filter. We had the same issue and the filter fixed it right away

Yep I had a buddy flex heater one hundred percent junk ! went back to the big buddy heater and love it !! Great video keep them coming .

Great video! I just hate fishing around others hahah. I'm an introvert and proud of it man.
Never had an issue with my regular buddy in 5 years..... Starts up Everytime.
Buddy Flex seems like a great purchase
I'm having issues with my flex also. When it's really cold out, it doesn't want to spark to start the pilot. Also doesn't want to light when hooked to 20 lb tank. Works fine on the 1 lb tank once it's warm.
Can’t say I’m impressed with the flex heater myself. Having issues as well.
Ice camping videos are they best ice fishing vids u make so keep making em

Ride on brother
Oh BW films you’re a…..
Yep, I went to a straight 20 lb propane cylinder and a Mr. Heater face that screws directly on to the tank. Never had one problem since.
I’m glad you’re conscientious about getting “too close” to others while setting up, but from what I could tell, you were definitely NOT too close to others! That was a highly respectable distance!!
Thanks Jeff!

Keep some steel wool handy clean the thermocoupler
Always bring 2 heaters just in case. The second is a cheap old old mr heater 15,000 btu connects right to the 20lb tank.
Ive had issues with the tip over protection causing a heater to not work just unhook the wires from the clips and hook them together
Jon the heater issue i have had also and so have others i know theres something wrong with the hose thats running to your tank the piece that threads from your hose into the mr buddy is the problem we found out u almost gotta back it off like a half a turn from tight its like resticting the flow of propane.
I've been having issues with my flex as well I'm going to try to clean the pilot out and hopefully that works
Sorry about your heater troubles.
I just bought the regular buddy heater...
Living for all my life in Michigan until last year moving to Florida I miss my walleye

Not an electrician but could you power an electric heater off the Jackery??
Short answer... yes
Long answer.... due to the high wattage consumption it would totally drain the jackery in about 2 hrs on medium setting
@@ryanlee6147 I kind of figured you could but that's to bad it would be such a short run time. Maybe someday as tech improves.
It would use a lot of watts

Damm I got cold watching this. Cool that your keeping it real.
I'm glad you didnt freeze that night but you should get that heater serviced and get another brand heater for back up in those situations.
I wonder if your hose is the material that breaks down and needs a filter?
Jon.... get a cheap sunflower heater that mounts right to the 20lb tank just in case... those things are indestructible. Put a filter on the hose for your buddy heater too tho.

I am filleting lake trout as I watch this! Thanks for the amazing content man!!
Great video man! Looks like a blast.
Wish this came out a few months ago when I got the flex I have used it once so far with no issues fingers crossed when I take it ice fishing in a fee weeks
🤟🏻🤟🏻🤟🏻
When the flame doesn’t stay lit. A long lighter saves the day. I’ve had to use this strat a few times this season
Tilt sensor wires are loose, OR the pilot flame isn't surrounding the thermocouple so it is shutting the gas off
Cam shot @330 is sick!

Man that freaking heater suxs man!!!!!!
I’ve given up on buddy heaters!!! On and off issues!!!
Had a couple friends come out to fish with me at cascade for perch and they had the exact same problem and there's was pretty new like 3rd or 4th they used it
Sweet now i kno some1 on cascade to show me the ropes
Lol jk
@@chronie21 hasn't been that great this season.. all the pressure and fish getting took over the last 5 or 6 years Is starting to add up and take effect
The Achilles heel of all buddy heaters is the pilot tube, spray that little tube out with carb cleaner let dry for 20 min and try
Which is your favorite color tantrum to use?
What time of night were the wallys biting?
My buddy flex heater has the same issue
I just chucked mine at the garage floor getting another big buddy
Yes I also have the same problem with the flex. Where do you get the filter at?
ive been having an issue with my big buddy this year. found out the the hose was getting frozen, put it on the truck defrost for about 5 min on high fixed the prob.
Love your videos. Can we see more of the bother and bother fishing? Phil from kasson MN
🙏🏻
Nice video diqwad
I had issues with my first one. They replaced it. Hopefully they can replace yours.
Using a long hose might be the issue should have a filter in the line to prevent any build up from the inside of the hose to the heater
What light are you using?
Tilt it forward to start

Lol i see you got the corrugate on so your not completely screwed.
I just use a coleman camp stove as a heater when winter camping... Been doing it for 30 years now. Ha
11:50 did anyone else hear a little something different? 😂
Love the videos, try keeping your propane tank/bottle warm while in the cold before using it as it can stop working correctly.
Those things have a kill switch on them? My little buddy had a similar problem and it was the kill switch not working properly
Hola amigo, me gustan tus videos. don't leave your heater outside when it's not in use it catches moisture in the cold, the same thing happened to me until I discovered this. Need to put a inline filter on!! Rubber hoses seperate in time!!!!
LMAO “EMO-tional DAMage” 😂😂
Rough night for the Korean Jason Mitchell… At least the fish were biting!!
LMFAO TRU

Got ya
Thanks for the grind💪
Awesome work
Bring a torch for the pilot light. More air as it looks like the low oxygen shutoff.
Hahahahha “to the city we go”
It do be like that sometimes
I know that feeling of not having a heater. RIP. Not gonna lie, saw your IG stories. Woulda saved you if I lived in SD. Move to MN.
Yes rip
i always bring either my girlfriends nail polish remover or a lil bit of rubbing acohol and some q-tips when me buddy heater doesnt start and i just clean the pilot hole with the alcohol and qtips and it normally starts working right after!
I seen you had a stove you could have turned it on to kelp warm
Is that the 450 or 650?
Way to stick with it. Enjoy your videos...
For me, flex heater seems to be more for the look and hype. Doesn't warm up the tent as good as the regular Mr buddy heaters. Nice video tho!
Id replace the thermo coupler on the heater
Dangggg I was just about to go buy on tonight, I’m definitely not going to!!!
i died when it flashed emotional damage lol
bruh, haha how many ice shanties do you own?? :D
piolt dont start it u have to push it in a lot of times till there is a soild flame then u put on high
Put a filter on ur line going to the heater
I don't think I've heard anything good about the buddy flex heater.. my pilot light will not stay lit at all either. Tried multiple different things, no luck. I live in South Dakota
Try a filter ?
gotta get a Mr heater
Too bad about that heater. Sweet ice fishing set up, that floor would be the trick.
Not sure if I would be going off on buddy heaters. You didn't even pay for that unit !
This video was great but to make it better to me I would like to see fish and a be able to see the live scope
Then tomorrows video is for you
Is that subi gang in the back
the flex really do be the worst lol
What size dinner-bell is your go-to... Video was a dandy... Way to clap the Walter...
Medium
