I really rate Dr Jenna and have been following her for a while but agree with others about the ads!! Probably won’t regularly watch because of that. Do better Zoe!!

@@johnburrows3385agreed. One of the best interviewers I've seen. People are quick to complain/nitpick, but he's very good at guiding the conversation, asking follow up questions, setting up things for his guests and colleagues, bringing up relevant personal anecdotes, summarizing (I'm not alone here in noticing this one - I want to tell Dr. Sarah Berry to call him JonathanGPT 😁), and just generally being very engaging. I've seen complaints when he plays a little dumb on a topic, but that's a well-honed technique to try and be an effective surrogate for the audience. Knowing when to interject for the sake of clarification is an art form, too. If you watch enough interviewers, podcasts, lecturers, etc. you pick up on who is good at this stuff. Jonathan has actually integrated a lot of feedback, too, from early episodes and has gotten even better with this format over time. No complaints from me, especially since I'm not a subscriber to the app (would join if they had microbiome tests in New York, but only two or three microbiome testing companies that I'm aware of operate here due to strict regulatory requirements - hopefully that changes in the future).
Content great, as usual, I watch these podcasts every week. BUT didn't enjoy this as much because of the adverts, very distracting, not to mention, a lot of the ads were for medical/health products that Zoe itself would probably debunk as worthless snake oil (correct me if I'm wrong on that, I skip them as soon as I can, maybe the ads are signed off by Zoe, but I doubt it). You will end up turning people off this podcast if the ads continue, which will be a shame as the messages are really important (and thank you for them).
It is ok, the headline is enough. We have all seen "boosted" immune systems - asthma, peanut allergy, autoimmune diseases - e.g - Psoriasis, Celiac disease, Multiple sclerosis, Diabetes mellitus type 1, Endometriosis, Rheumatoid arthritis etc. The immune system is complicated and mucking about with it with chemicals is not likely to help. (Other than perhaps using sauna and cold baths but even that is only under investigation and not proven).
I agree that the presenter's style of personal referencing interrupts and detracts from the science being presented. I would listen to the podcasts more frequently if the interviews were not filled out with this style of personal referencing.
Not many people in the Mediterranean actually eat the Mediterranean diet!! We do, but many of our Greek friends and neighbours don’t. They love lots of meat, pizzas, fast food and sweet cakes, pastries, biscuits etc. Please can we find another name for this type of diet?!
We are all different, evidently. I like Jonathan's interventions. I think he assumes a character who doesn't understand much and tries to make sure whether what he's understanding is true. I think it's one way to deal with these scientific dat which may prove to be too much for the commen people.
The concept of "boosting" a normally functioning immune system is a bit like "boosting" defense spending of a heavily armed country during peace time, or handing police departments a huge stockpile of military gear. Things may function normally in most cases, but If you are handed a hammer, everything starts to look like a nail. Although that's my perspective as someone who _doesn't_ have a normally functioning immune system (I have Sjogren's syndrome, an autoimmune disease) and certain things that are supposedly "good" for the immune system will trigger excess inflammation; my immune system is already in a heightened, constant wartime mode. So I definitely agree with the perspective that we should desire healthy immune responses, not over-reactive ones.
This is so sad, these ads are really going to cause me to select carefully which of your podcasts to listen to, only the ones I am really interested in....
I’m saddened also that the whole Zoe set-up has now become so commercialised - I’m inundated with sales emails trying to get me to become part of the Zoe programme. Thank you for a very interesting podcast - I too have never really understood what the immune system is! I'd also like to reflect on a couple of comments about personal anecdotes. First of all, this podcast is structured as a conversation rather than a presentation, and anecdotes come up in conversations and make it feel real. I recognise however that we all absorb information in different ways - some of us prefer data without the personal stuff, and others of us are very interested in the personal information because we relate to it in our own lives although we know it is not scientific. I'd say that the balance is about right because it helps the conversation to flow. I would agree however with the comments about the adverts. Definitely not an improvement.
This podcast was particularly amazing! But I have to agree that the new multiple ad interruptions is really irritating.
If you immediately change to another video and then come back they usually won't disturb you anymore. Al the best from Portugal.
