His J-Bands and Long Toss programs have infiltrated every level of baseball over the past 15-20 years. We discussed a number of topics, including the different styles of crow hopping, how to pull down the right way, long toss, weighted balls and more.

I think it's great you guys are still experimenting and innovating with something that's been around as long as baseball; there's way too many dogmatic approaches taken in certain fields that kinda ignore new ways of viewing or naturally relating what can be done through its practice. I really enjoyed the podcast.

I can see how that version of crow hopping might be helpful if you can feel that sensation, but there is a reason the shuffle works as well. On a crow hop it is very easy to over stride and get this feeling of being stretched out and losing power. The shuffle does help stay connected and many players do not flail out like you are saying.

In regards to young and developing arms (14yo), how often should you long toss and how often to pull down? Also, if say the max distance is 150’, how many throws to get to the max distance? Do you throw 3 throws at 90’, back up 5’ and keep going to max?

Hey Jay...thx for watching. Main answer is to listen to the arm. We recommend throwing 6-7 x a week, though that could mean light, med or higher intent based on the day. And also "in season"...things of course can change based on the Off-Season, etc. As for getting to max distance, same idea...just move back as the arm naturally "opens up"...no need to count throws, or have predetermined parameters....hope that helps!! Alan

Is this a new philosophy he has come up with? I notice in his old long toss videos they are doing a shuffle?

Hey Hugh! Great catch! We've always taught the Crow Hop...our kids showed up that day doing the shuffle, so we decided not to "alter" what they were used to for the video shoot...but YES! CROW HOP off back leg...thx!
