Jaeger Sports Baseball Throwing Program -- '360 translates into 97mph Arm Strength & Velocity

- See how Pitcher China McCarney and Trevor Bauer build arm health, strength, velocity, endurance and improved recovery period as he goes through the Jaeger Sports Long Toss Throwing Program for baseball players. This throwing session China goes out as far as 360 feet, and his velocity hit's 97 mph on the radar gun. This is the Jaeger Sports approach toward how to long toss correctly, and how to develop arm health, arm strength, arm endurance and improved recovery period. This program is not just for pitching. It is for anyone who wants to address the health, strength and endurance of their arm.
Here from Trevor Bauer throwing the ball 400 feet over centre field

"These it how he did it he may of had flashbacks".
Yupp, me too
Jomboi
Is that on video?
Wow, with an arm like that I bet he could throw a ball over the center field fence after getting pulled out of a game
damn.. wish i had youtube back when i pitched. lol.
My arm never feels sore the day after long tossing. However I can often feel soreness in my arm the day after simply taking grounders from shortstop and throwing to first base about 25 times. I think its great to stretch out your arm and learn how to use more of your body by long tossing rather than staying tight when you try to throw hard from shorter distances
Trevor Bauer is in the bigs now.
Trevor bauer is a cy young award winner now.

I struggle throwing 200 ft cant even imagine 330 ft
Kingpizza10 takes time to build up that arm strength
He can throw 380 ft easy
Is that Trevor Bauer
Yeah it is, says in the description.
It is Andrew...just before he went to ucla
I’ve seen this video several times had no idea that was Trevor
No it definitely is not
After doing Jaeger bands and long toss I can now throw about 350 feet and throw in the low 80's I'm only 15 too I Will countine to keep using Jaeger bands and long toss routine.!!
that a boy Ryan...keep working...great stuff!!
Ryan Miller 350 feet generally corresponds to 90 mph or higher. Most of the pro guys I play with can't throw that far.
lol what a crock of shit
That's great kid take advantage. I once had a great arm myself but ruined my shoulder when throwing one day and can never throw the same ever again. I didn't know what these guys are teaching I didn't care to warm up I woiod just straight up gun a baseball as far as I could my first throw lol. It was dumb and I so regret it and I use to throw over a hundred yards. I use to be able to throw a rock probly 170 yards or maybe even farther. I learned at a young age 4th grade that I could throw much farther than most grown ups so by the time I was 17 I was throwing baseballs at my high school football field from endzone to endzone and pitching in the high 80s. Now I'd be lucky to throw 40 yards and it'll feel like I thru a thousand pitches after only one throw. Take care of that arm kid.
The Turdinator he went to my high school it is true. Although I am against long toss it is true that he was throwing low 80’s back then. Now he is almost in the 90’s
how often do you it? did I miss something
It's not necessary to throw more than 200 feet (~ 70 yards) in these drills to maximize the effect of the method. In fact, throwing more than say 180 feet (60 yards) can promote more harm than good for many players as some are infielder-oriented and some more outfielder-oriented (where the longer toss would be more to the task). Just some advice from a former pro baseball player turned physics professor.
Don R. Mueller, Ph.D. Why though?
i'm so impressed every time i watch
Trevor Bauer! Wow this was a long time ago, crazy to see how much this dude improved.
Dude's always been a baseball freak 😂 so cool!
I know these guys are pitchers in Baseball but I bet they could spin a 🏈 pretty darn good with that type of arm strength.
This looks like a real good work out. I like how nice and easy they throw . I would like to know how often it should be done. I have a 18 yrs old son that I will definitely recommend it to try it.
how did it work out for your son?
@@luisbocanegra8384 hi
hey this is good stuff. im trying to star pitching my sophmore year and i want to improve my arm velocity and stamina if i do these exercises with weighted baseballs also will this greatly improve my velocity?
Easy....just warm up properly or you can injure yourself....throwing a football an extended distance will also help......more rotator cuff extension and strength
@@chrisparouse9182 it's a lil late to say sum now, he said that 5 years ago 🤣🤣
@Travis Shaw True lol.....didnt look at when he posted

I believe I’ve commented on this video before, but I’m now 10 yrs removed from HS baseball and I used this to gain arm strength. I was throwing foul pole to foul pole and it helped increase velocity by at-least 10 mph and helped get a few OF assists. I couldn’t really hit and my arm was my best asset. I never did the J-bands part but I ran and stretched beforehand
After all these years I just now realized that was Trevor Bauer in the video
Trevor Bauer was one of the most dominant college pitchers of all time...Silver Spikes winner also... very few power pitchers throw strikes early in the pros...give the kid a chance....

This is a good program, long toss by itself isn't very effective for pitchers as the mechanics of long toss are different than when pitching from a mound, but in the "pulldown phase" is where it really helps out with pitchers mechanics. Focusing on throwing it flatter with a lower release point. Great conditioning program.
If I throw 350 -370 feet in the air
And am 37 years old, do I still get a pro tryout. ?
Now Trevor Bauer is a Cy Young Award winner. That’s pretty good results for any throwing program
Our 14U team uses a throwing progression (e.g. wrist snaps, one-knee T, two-knee T, etc.) when playing catch into long toss. Do you recommend this approach, or simply just start by playing standing catch?
I'm a speedy outfielder, and the arm is the one things scouts don't like much about me. I've been long tossing for a year or two extensively, and I'm still only hovering around 77-78. I never thought of long tossing this way, with consistent arc and looseness until the pulldowns. I'll have to try it for a few months and see if I can get into the low or mid 80's.
+Obsession What grade are you in??
+Ryan fuck u ryan
Any luck?
This is amazing! I love this so much!
@stalkervision. Our college coaches have us use this program at our school and the point of having the pitchers throw long toss is to teach them to use their whole body when they are throwing to get the maximum out of each throw and that translates into them using everything they have when pitching from the mound. This program works so before you and everyone who agrees with you comes on here and talks it down because you were never good at baseball, get your facts straight.
@drivelinebaseball No one promoting long toss will tell you that it's a guarantee your arm won't get injured. Pitching puts torque on your arm it is not meant to withstand. Some people have naturally stronger arms than others. Long toss will strengthen your arm, but if you have a genetically weak link in there, it can break no matter what. Long toss can help, but it's not a cure-all or a sure thing. As to McCarney, he had a rash of personal problems after HS, not arm problems.
@Jviebran
Ok...now you're just blabbering. A crow hop doesn't help as much as you think versus throwing off a mound. And you misunderstood the video if you think it's deceiving...OF COURSE he's gonna say his arm hurt cause he didn't long toss...true or not he's trying to sell a product. But they are still 100% more honest than dick mills (former mlb pitcher) who pitched a couple innings back in 1970.
So the Lincecums, Zitos and Harens are just mistaken?....I think they have thrown a baseball once or twice.......explain why Lincecums' velocity went in the toilet this year when the Giants had him stop long tossing....and why it came back when he told them he HAD TO LONG TOSS....now he is back to throwing gas and has tied Bob Gibson for 22 K'S in his first two outings in the LCS....
@TheBla45
Most organizations don't really "Long toss".....except for guys like Haren, Zito and Lincecum fighting their organizations to throw 300 plus...most guys go out under 250. if that....watch any pre game warm up and it is rare to see any of the pitchers opening their arm up with 300 ft throws ...organizations restrict it.....the pull down is taking the opening up of the stretching out phase and putting it into explosive mode...and then go to the mound and apply it...makes too much sense.
??? clock what?.lolly pop?..360 FT? what are you guys talking about...Try throwing a baseball 360ft...That is a"Jaeger Bomb". .. when Tim Lincecum lost velocity this year he demanded that the Giants let him go back to long tossing ...and now he is dominating again....the sad part is so many organizations and college coaches take these guys that long toss in the off season and then wont let them do it during the season..so sad...they come in throwing gas and then are told to go 120 ft...just dumb
You dont know what you are talking about. I'd like to see someone with a high squat weight start their work out with max weight. If you know anything about physical training you know this is very dangerous. In baseball it is the same with the arm. All players must warm up and not doing so properly leads to early fatigue and soreness. Long toss prevents this and strengthens the arm. Maybe you should try it before to speak what you dont know.
This video is a little deceptive. This dude didn't just walk on the football field and throw 97 after a 25 minutes of long toss. That kind of velocity requires months of conditioning and practicing of proper throwing mechanics, and more importantly a natural muscle quickness. That said, long toss is still very good for your arm.
long toss is ruining baseball arms.....the evidence is there....ASMI has proven long toss to be of little value and violates specific mound principles that translates to the actual game.
all this is, is a game of catch. If you can't throw well doing this, what makes you think you're going to throw well off of a mound?
Last time I checked, Bauer is playing MLB. Oh yeah, his arm is fine
soviet so you're saying if all those high school players jus pitched all day they would reach 90 mph? longtoss helps you reach your maximum arm strength. not everyone can throw 90-95mph but long tossing helps you reach your own maximum velocity/arm strength.
@10FlatTires He will throw that hard off the mound to tho. Because if you haven't realized they are throwing on flat ground so as you call getting a "running start" just shows the explosiveness off of a mound that's all.
all right enough already.....for those of you that really want some educated opinions...go to Jaege sports.com and click on Coaches testimonials...just about every elite D-1 coach endorses the program...
How often should a player throw long toss like this? Right now, I can only throw 220ft. I warmed up properly, jogged to get blood flowing, but had some bad shoulder/bicep pain the next day... Any tips?
After you do long toss do players still have regular infield out field practice? Basically what’s after long toss as far as practice is concerned?
Ok ....most people dont know but the "other" guy in the video besides China is Trevor Bauer....the third overall pick in the draft this year....bot these guys are about 6'1" 180 lbs....
This is asmr
wow i suck i feel bad now.. because iam a football player i used to hate baseball players i fond out baseball was coool but i never warm up and now i now i can reach that thanks,,, btw i trow a 92 miles but it goes down after the 2nd 1 no warm up hohoh bye
I have seen people that can throw the ball from one corner of the field to the other, and they dont throw more than 81-82. can somebody explain me why is that.
you cant really say the guy can pitch 97 bcuz hes throwin with a curl hop. not giving a negative comment or anything like that. i think this is a good workout.
I have 2 questions for you Mr. Jaeger...
1) How many times per week do you recommend long toss?
2) Does this change during the season for pitchers?
sorry for delay...hope this helps!!

This stuff really works! I have tried it and now I am confident in throwing guys out from the outfiield. Thanks guys!!
This is great but whenever a pitcher pitches.. he doesn't take a crow hop/2 step leap and throw, It's just 1 stide... lol
lol ya think? i was just kind of parodying youtube comments..
btw i am 8 1/2 years old now and can dunk on a 10 foot
“All that’s really happening is they are throwing with a little more arc and revealing they are potential MLB players”
I call a tie. They both have cannons. Some other guys out there too, like Ichiro, Melky, Markakis.
ur gonna hurt these peoples arms because there are no mechanics in the body its all arm
I just talked to Jeremy Guthrie about utilizing this long toss program. He just implemented it this year and feels great so far.
if 360' is 97mph what would 300' be for mph
No way this kid is hittin 97mph..sorry but not even a lot of pros can do it.
last I checked, you don't get to crow hop into a pitch. just sayin.
I can throw a softball 240 feet, a baseball 320.
Longtoss does nothing for pitching velocities, and puts extra stress on the arm that you don't need. The man throwing "97" was hopping into it. Translate it to the mound, not even 90mph. People need to learn the actual science of pitching velocity, instead of old baseball "wisdom" that has no science backing.
Patrick McDonald you a Topvelocity guy?
Patrick McDonald 97 with a small Hop like that is probably 93-94 on the mound easy. You gotta remember they were on flat ground, not on a slope like a pitching mound is.
Long tossing definitely enhances pitching velocity. If you don’t see a translation between long toss and velocity off the mound, you have a lower body mechanics issue.
so like how am I supposed to stretch out my arm while throwing?
Move back as you throw
hahhahahahaahahhaahaha at 3:51 the ball hits the post.
When i pulldown my arm hurts like hell
you can't actually jog forward and pitch, on the field.
the thing about pitching speed has no magic. It is natural born plus pitching training & proper rests.
Rip. Boy going to jail now. Sad life.
yeah and now bauer is a pitcher for the indians
Who’s coach sent them here
You can conclude all you want. You can imagine you are right. But it doesn't make it so. The reason long toss DOES help one practice throwing with great velocity is precisely what you claim makes it a waste of time. The slightly elevated angle at which the pitcher throws during long toss mimicks the slightly elevated angle of release when throwing off a mound. Downhill/flat you say? No. Pitching of a mound creates an elevated release angle similar to long toss. Do the geometry.
There are a lot of different ways of throwing 90, and this will likely help to develop arm strength, but your strength should be coming from your legs anyhow, not your shoulders. Utilizing a crow hop to throw 90+ mph (as the kid did at end of the video) is not realiszic when on a mount either.
Trevor Bauer, for all his arm strength, can't throw strikes to save his life, and until he learns to pitch, not just throw, he should not be an example of throwing technique.
@biolinquin the teorical explanation to that is the angle of the ball the grip of the ball, etc, if you hold the ball too tight it will be going down as it breaks the air, and if you trow it to high it will fall short, is like throwing a football, you dont need to be like ronnie coleman to throw it hard or long, it comes to technique
Bauer's problem may not be with arm strength, but his approach to the game in general. His walk rate since turning pro is nearly 4.5/9IP.
He had success at the college level because those hitters couldn't keep up with him and he was "effectively wild". MLB hitters will lay off the garbage and either get the walk or crush the mistake.
He has publicly stated he does not care about walks, to me demonstrating that he is unwilling to actually control his arm.
Awesome video! Very informational! I feel like patience is the key with this kind if workout.
He throws the ball at least 360 ft....he throws it from the goal line....the length of the 100 yard field...through the uprights at the other end of the field and lands in the shot put area behind the end zone...that is at least 360 feet!!!
If you consider the mound slopes at 4.76 degrees, but the total slope from a standard mound of 10 inches height over 726 inches (home to rubber) is only 0.79 degrees.... pitching off a mound is essentially similar to throwing at a 3.97 degree UPWARD angle. This is what long toss simulates. It takes a max effort delivery on flat ground and elevates the release several degrees to mimick the upward angle of actual pitching.
no, what I'm saying is that there aren't many dudes who can actually throw that hard. This guy throwing obviously ain't no bum. He can throw the ball. Probly 88-92 range. IDK shit man. get off my back lol
Totally agree with you...I have no clue how to throw hard or strengthen my arm...and I am irrelevant....but I am man enough to admit it. I do know that some of the greatest coaches and players in the world endorse this program and the endorsements on the Jaeger websites attest to that...it seems like the few people who try to criticize this program just ignore the statements from active players and coaches......maybe those players and coaches do not know anything either....
I pitch at 86-89 and can touch 92. I haven't ever really done much as far as long tossing goes. I'm wondering if this program is legit and if so has anyone on here done it and had good results. I would like to be pitching at 88-90 and topping out at 94.
When your shoulder is up and throwing down, totally different than what you teach these guys. They would be better off throwing from 2nd base home and when they pitch it looks real close. To build up arm speed you don't use weighted balls you throw a tennis ball against a wall over and over from 50, 60, 70, feet. You're killing these guys arms.
Does arm flexibility increase throwing velocity? please answer.
The Texas Rangers adopted this method for their pitchers a couple of years ago, and since have had the fewest starting rotation pitcher's injuries in baseball. They really had no injuries to ANY of their starters this year, aside from blisters. I don't look down on this program at all. I think it's going to be widely adopted very soon if it continues to work out well for the Rangers and other MLB teams who adopt this program.
I went out today and applied these methods to my workout. Got up to 330ft of high arc long toss. Then on the pulldown phase i started at 200 ft throwing no more than head high. I felt stronger than i have in a long time. Felt really loose throwing from 200 feet on a rope. Felt even better from 100, then at 60 feet i felt like i was really bringing it, no radar gun today though. Next week i'll radar it and post it on youtube. If i had to guess, i'd say i was throwin 89-90 today.
My son throws 88 (lives 85-87) and is a rising junior in the Atlanta area. He already has a scholarship offer but if he is going to break the barrier of 90 and "live" in that 90-92 range he will need to utilize this type of program. Does anyone in or near Cobb county support your throwing program?
Do you guys do anything with Tap weighted medicine balls?
From my work with them, I found they can be a great addition to warms ups and cool downs.
Do you guys ever use Tap weighted medicine balls?
From my limited use with them, I have found they can be a good part of a warm up and cool down.
Whoa, that's far.
Right now I can only throw 240 ft(80 yds).
Anyone know what the velocity in mph equivalent for me would be?.. I know, poor way to estimate speed.
hey i was doing long toss with a kid on my pre-freshman summer league team last night. i was about 40 feet behind first base on the right field line. and threw it over dead center field fence. dead center was 385. im not sure exactly how far that would be but it was a pretty damn good throw. the coach from the other team noticed the throw and asked my coach how hard i threw. i am throwing anywhere from 80-85mph at 14y/o he said thats slow for how good of an arm i have and i need coaching. tips?
hey alan im 19 and from england i play cricket and ever sice i was young i could out throw men by the age of 8. I have measured my long toss at around 120meters to 130meters i have never been taught to throw and i would be happy to load videos of my long toss if you want.
How can I long toss that far? Do j bands exercises or any other explosive exercises or any compound exercises help with that and velocity also?
Damnit why wasn't UA-cam around when I was throwing baseballs a hundred yards and ruined my shoulder because I didn't know what these guys are teaching. Makes me wonder with the right people teaching me could I have been a professional pitcher even in the minors? I definitely use throw just as far as this guy but I wasn't concerned with pitching even tho I knew I had a cannon.
That is "old school" thinking. Even old schoolers are coming around to the thought that more than just the genetically gifted can achieve an excellent fast ball with the right kind of drills.
Are they using a standard baseball - 5.5oz with the regular seam?
I'm almost 17 and can throw a long toss at about 330 feet. I'm getting frustrated because I still can't hit 90. I'm always throwing like 85-88.
My 13 year old is at 75 yards on the fly. When I was a senior in HS I could throw the football field, 300ft. He wants to pass me.
This is perfect for just about any age past 12. The point he's making is this is the healthy way to go about it, your goal isn't to go throw 300+ the first time out. Slowly backup until you feel you're reaching your limit, Don't max out your first few outtings. We did this all the time Jr. High and High. I moved and my coach never had us practice long toss and no one knew how to do it correctly. 2 years later, I went from have a rubber arm to a destroyed shoulder.

how long should i do this a week to gain velocity?
9 days a week
Hey im currently following the tuff cuff program also along with this long toss program? Can I benefit using both?
Thank you for these videos!
thank you!!
Should i just follow there throwing program schedule, and just long toss the days im supposed too like the two above?
To Sovietskiisniper: stats and logic are not on your side. Neither is trigonometry. See my post below for details.
@phatneazy well still, mechanics can be the difference between a couple miles on a fastball, even if the guy throws hard already.
those doesn't look like normal baseballs at the end... are they? they look like the jugs lite flite balls the way they break.... ie 3.5 ounce balls...
