      It’s not rare at all. Everyone has that one moment in their lives that changes them forever, that they see as their before/after point. It's different for everyone, and can be good or bad. A cancer diagnosis, an actor's big break, your wedding day, a car accident, the death of a loved one, hitting rock bottom. For the nation at large, that was 9/11. For many today, it's COVID19.

      I usually dont comment or say anything negative but i feel like i need to. this shooting is getting so much attention because it could have been prevented. And because the amazing kids from that school are trying to make a change so this won't ever happen. School shootings keep happening and yet we are doing nothing about it. Yes death is part of life and everyone is going to die eventually. But losing 17 kids to something totally preventable is something no one should have to go through. And I agree the animals and people that are killed is so horrific, but putting stricter laws on guns is something so obvious that we should have done when school shootings started happening. And no you might not sit in a corner and cry and never say anything again. And thats definitely not what these kids are doing. But death is hard, especially tragic, unexpected events like this. It takes time to grieve and get past death.

    • @yellowmellow9339
      @yellowmellow9339 6 років тому

      Dr.Magic 2003 you clearly dont know how hard it is to keep a sane head and remain positive in event of trauma. When I had a traumatic experience I couldn't function and ended up dropping out of school. These kids are strong for being able to carry on, especially in a place where they have to relive that traumatic event everyday where they saw people brutally MURDERED. Id be doubtful youd be talking all this shit if you saw people being murdered in front of you. Stop being an ass.

    • @MegumiCiBear
      @MegumiCiBear 6 років тому

      julhippo tell that to the kids that live in war torn countries. Or in bad areas in America. No one cares until it hits home. Just because most people you know do go through it, doesn’t mean it’s not something that thousands of people go through daily.

    this must be so hard, going back to the same place where you thought your life would end, going back to the same classed where you heard the gunshots, remembering the time when it happened, being in constant fear of it happening again.. i cried while watching this, just thinking about how much fear some of these students will live in. all of the kids in RMHS (richad montgomery high school) in maryland send love and prayers to stoneman douglas.

      @@neenabelle1342 because you guys are stupid if you want to ban firearms, it is stated in the 2nd ame that we have the right to bear arm, if we do not have guns we cannot protect ourselves from criminals, foreign Invaders, and including our own government. @@myapettaway9973 i was looking for an angry pro guns comment. You guys need gun control because this is just a begining dont be idiots. Current system is clrealy not working and MANY MANY people are scared forever so that few nuts could have their guns. Parents lost their children! US logic : kinder egg - evil kill kids, owning guns-a right every nut should have. 'makes sence'

    • @myapettaway9973
      @myapettaway9973 5 років тому +52

      Rimgaile Kasnauskaite I understand what you're saying but those two shouldn't be compared. Kinder eggs are banned because of choking hazards and guns aren't banned because it's a right to have them. The current system is messed up. Take in how many people own guns for protection and how they would feel if their right was suddenly taken away.

    • @bloodtypena
      @bloodtypena 5 років тому +69

      @@myapettaway9973 they should be compared because banning kinder eggs is absurd here in europe we have been eating them for 50 years and no chocking hazards happen. However guns... Well i already told you. I disagree with you i think they should be compared because it highlights the absurd system of US

    • @myapettaway9973
      @myapettaway9973 5 років тому +31

      Rimgaile Kasnauskaite I'm trying to say banning guns won't stop anything, people will find another way to harm others. Therefore banning them doesn't make sense. Also I think we have something similar to Kinder Eggs in the US so you really don't have to compare them.

    I can relate to what the mom was saying. My mom and my stepdad went to Las Vegas to watch the country concert. I wasn’t with them, but I just clearly remember how I woke up in the morning, looked at the tv, and saw that there had been a mass shooting there, and lots of people died. I have anxiety, and this hit me hard. I didn’t know if my family was okay or not. They went with some friends, and that day had been haunting me since. They are both well and healthy, and I couldn’t be more grateful for that.

    These kids will forever be remembered for their bravery. I was watching a video last night forgot which one it was of columbine, and one of that parents of the kids pretty much said it right, "Those kids saved themselves!" and that's true they are survivors, and just because everybody else doesn't recognize them for it, some of us still do and I think their opinions do matter, that's why i did my college essay on parenting.
    One of the biggest things any parent can learn about their kids is that they have ideas too and it's important to take some of those ideas into account. Like what are their ideas to improve school safety?
    I'm sure they would know what their school looks like, maybe they need more emergency exits, and less windows on classroom doors. Whatever small ideas they have could actually make a difference, even if it's just a little bit, it helps to decrease the crime rate, i'm all for it.

      Don’t smoke weed. You don’t need to go to parties. Just have fun the way you want to in high school. Try your best studying and getting good grades, it helps if you have a 4.0 and if you want to go to a top university. Planning your future early is also good! It’s also fun joining clubs and extracurricular activities. But just be yourself. Don’t let anyone change you. Don’t be pressured to do or change yourself because of others. Always remember you are perfect and amazing the way you are right now. Stick with people who truly care about you. You can get through it! 4 years goes by super fast! Just have fun! Good luck!!

    I was my school's editor a decade ago. We had to redesign our book for 4 student deaths in my senior year... 3 suicides and 1 cancer. They just kept happening that year. Obviously not even comparable to what these kids went through, but I'll never forget that. We had to fight our principal to even include the suicides. I'm glad things have changed and the school embraced adding all the memorial pages. (Also holy crap, 400+ pages, yearbook is intense in the States... unfortunately it's become a lot less rigourous here in Canada since I left school but that's another topic). My heart is with this staff. Look after each other.

      kids who don't care if they die now see that if they kill 17 kids that their name and face will be shown, they see articles of fan mail given to the shooter, they see tumbler pages romanticizing mass murderers, the shooters brother was caught telling him about how "everyone is talking about you and the shooting", they turned this into columbine v2 by making a lot of people know about the shooter and the shooting its self.
