Edit - took me roughly 7 hours to do the fuel pump on this car with filming which is all in the next episode! I am starting to really like the wheels that are on the car aswell i dont know what you think?

Regarding the windscreen. Make sure when you order the replacement it is bronze colour.
Imports are bronze, so if you fit the UK green glass it will look wrong.
Also make sure a correct trim is used. A lot of people fit a universal trim which looks wrong.
Shame I'm not closer I'd live to come over and fit a screen for you. Dust off the tools as it's been a fair few years since I was in the trade now.

Well, you say they rust, but really they’re not bad. In the 1970s, when Toyota first appeared on the UK/Irish scene, the new Corollas were leaving flakes of rust on the showroom floors.
But the Japanese are not stupid. They listened and took on board the only real problem we had with their super luxuriously appointed budget cars.
Within a few years, they got to grips with moisture traps and even did a bit of corrosion protection and, it quickly became rare to see a Japanese colander on the roads. Even the scrapyards were populated by mechanical/electrical failures, due to maintenance issues, rather than dissolving in the rain.
I’m hopeful for the floor of my freebie Yaris, despite being full of water and alien life forms, since January!

As a previous owner of a mark 2 MR2 I enjoyed this video 🙂. You are ver lucky with the lack of rust, they rust for fun. Also mine used to eat alternators as the water would drop into it from the deck.

What a great car, loads of potential. It’s worthy of a full restoration. That red would pop with a fresh coat. As a detailing addict, I can’t wait to see the interior scrubbed up! Keep the episodes coming.

I’m impressed it finally ran with only 3 cylinders tops . A good electrical service should have it running on 4 again. Plugs, leads, dizzy cap clean up- No nasty mechanical sounds which is a bonus.

My favourite episode so far... mostly as the second car I ever bought was practically the same. A Japanese import MR2 SW20, G-Limited, but in black, no targa roof and with a manual box. It was my first sports model, and I loved it... until on one sad journey it ate ALL of its oil and the engine big end failed. So off to the great race track in the sky it went...
    Gone, but not forgotten!

Rear calipers known for seizing up on these. The random plug goes onto the engine cover temp sensor that activates the side intake fan. If unplugged the fan will run constantly. Great project and fab content 👌

A clay bar and 2 stage machine polish and a wax would bring back 80 percent of that paintwork back even some of the more heavy bleached areas . That would probably do and it would look very respectable .. but seeing how clean it is .. I think a respray with its original colour would do it justice 👌

My late dad had one of these back in the day, reg was extremely similar to yours J735 HTY. Was a lovely black UK example in around 2000. I was around 13 at the time and remember the immense sound of the K and N filter it had on. Always had a soft spot for them.

Nice project - well worth sorting due to the underneath. Get it undersealed ASAP as it won't stay like that for long. I like the patina - It's LDV post office/Corsa MK1 style - Would like to see what a bit of farecla would do before you give it a blow over. Alloys are ok but nothing special, and you don't have the HFH (hose from hell) as it's non turbo. Looking forward to the next installment, and I have patreonised you.

Now this is more like it 😊I have a late 1992 red one of these rev 2 t-bar import and a turbo 3SGTE, bought it in 2007 it was imported in 2005 and completely rust free it comes out during the summer and packed away at winter, goes like shit of a shovel and other than an alternator which died before it's time due to a very common fault with these cam cover gaskets its very very reliable car and lovely to drive it's the first car I've ever owned to have subwoofers behind the seats as stock the sound system is pretty awesome once you uprate the speakers i replaced all mine and now it sounds incredible, brilliant car, when me and my wife were courting we used to bomb around this thinking we were something we weren't lol😂 great times not very practical with the kids now though, mines got a boarder body kit on looks sweet goes nicely with the rev 2 spoiler, also has leather seats which I had done not kong after I owned it

My mark 2 was lowered and went through some shallow flood water. A few days later it wouldn't start. My mechanic got to the fuel pump via the central console (interior) - unplugged everything and re-connected all. After that it was fine. There was an engine-gearbox oil seal leak (manual) and the only bit of corrosion was at an awkward-to-get-at lower corner near the rear bulkhead /engine firewall. Looks like you've got a keeper there !

Yaaaahhhh!!! A fixer-upper with no rust!!!!! Woooo Hoooooo!!!! The MR2 is actually quite the mid engine sports car that's way more reliable than a Ferrari !!! I'm surprised there is no fuel pump/sender access panel inside the cockpit?! Say what? LOL. Having the lift will make the fuel tank removal so much easier in time and saving your back!! You found a really good one to repair and sort out!!! You should invite the Top Gear trio over for a Tasty Classic Special broadcast!!! Sara N Tuned a youtuber in the States has repaired and fixed an MR2 also, same year and body style -- not sure on the engine. If you need some assistance contact her.

Turbo it, had a grey import in red, also on a J plate, Targa top, (replace the rubbers on those or wet bum hole) gold badges, gold TRD wheels, that turbo made such a big difference, aftermarket BoV sounds amazing, snorkel air intakes helps keep it cool and upgraded Rev3 rear light clusters, check in boot the rear wheel arches rot, however that oil spill will keep it rust free, MK1 is a dream to drive btw....... or you could shoe horn a 3 litre Camry engine, remember never to drive this car in France, they will point and laugh at you

Great find Ben! You deserve a solid motor after the Pan handle! I remember my mate had red MR2 exactly the same in the late 90s. Went with him one year from Peterborough to a MAX Power live show in Birmingham around 1999. Great fun!
