Rachel Maksy shame! Shame on you! Dishonour on you! Dishonour on your cow!
Does you smell like pumpkin pie ??
Hey. Would you ever make that apron to sell? I love it!
This reminds me of over the garden wall
Next time - use " Fix-All" it's in a powder form. Dries in hours instead of days, and is more durable. I have hand puppets made 20 years ago, still in excellent condition, made of Fix-All instead of Mod podge.🤗 the more you know!👻
She looks straight up adorable, I don’t find her terrifying at all.
Same
the little lips are SO CUTE! She's just adorable.
I think she's a little scary but in a delightful, cute way
Yeah I love it so much. Super cute and detailed and the lumpiness just adds to the pumpkin vibes. The face is adorable with just the right hint of spooky.
It's terrifyingly precious
Rachel trying to salvage the terrifying pumkin head by putting freckles and a heart mouth on it perfectly encapsulates my 2020 vibe.
my name is rachel, and I read that and forgot hers was as well, and I was like.. oh I did WHAT? 😂🤦🏻♀️
Exactly so. 2020 is like trying to put glitter on a dumpster but damnit its important to do it anyway.
It’s the forgotten Spice Girl, Pumpkin Spice
😂😂
That's so bad it's good.
this comment is significantly underrated.
LMFAO
OMG

I love that you not only came up with a great name for the pumpkin lady, but a backstory as well!
@@teresaellis7062 Thank you❣️
But how did he attach the head...to the body.... I ask too much questions don't I...
@@aboredsadbean1770 but it is meat not soil... meh who knows...

SHE IS NOT TRASH SHE IS ADORABLE!
And I kinda wanna call her Prudence.
Same!
Prudence Perfect!
Same
Every name suggestion is exquisite, but Prudence Pum'kinhead is my favorite. It's old-timey and creepy-cute like the costume itself.
💖PRUDENCE💖
She's not a monster, she's gourd-gious. I'll see myself out now.
I need this on a shirt. STAT!!
I love you
Yes. Thank you. You are wonderful and have the wit of a god.
underrated comment!
LOL
Rachel: Let me know what her name should be.
Me: Spooky vintage pumpkin lady? Gourdtrude.
Miss Gourdtrude sounds perfect!
GOURDTRUDE for the win
When I was a child a watched and really liked an old movie called "Wakacje z duchami" ("Vacation with ghosts") and a big part of this movie was a scene where a ghost of a knight walks around the castle and cries "Forgiveee me Brunhildaaa !" so Brunhilda is the scariest name I can think of xd
YES GOURDTRUDE GOOD
YES
Watching her make her own clothes makes me feel so empowered to start sewing and creating, even though I’ve never sewed a thing in my life
Go for it! You can do it! The scariest thing is getting started so if you've got the impulse go for it! 🥰 I believe in you!!
How’s your sewing coming along? Anything cool?
my first creation was a little hand sewn coin pouch, you can do it!
Omg she looks like the wife of a farmer. The farmer was lonely, and wanted a wife, so he made one come to life with a pumpkin! Shes very cute.
Pygmalion on the farmer!
You need to write this story!
thats so cute, awwww. like a wholesome little fairy tale!
Her name HAS to be Jack-o-lyn and there’s no other answer. 🎃

But, Gourdtrude....
Love that name.
@@meek-d4v Gourdtrude... I.. LOVE it
I was inn suggest Betsy but that's so much more clever
i dont understand how “pumpkin-head lady” was ever NOT going to be terrifying, but i support you
im cackling because while watching this i wrote to my friend on discord "i cant wait to see why she ever thought a pumpkinhead custom was ever gonna NOT be creepy"
I agree but at the same time I also find it kinda cute
The sketch looked cute though
Notwithmehoney and ali baker youre too powerful for me, it’s so spooky!!!! hahaha
My thoughts exactly 😂
I would totally be down for a whole series of just “making closet staple pieces” so you have more excuses for “work but useful” and clothing construction is such a cool puzzle!
In a way this is completely historically accurate. She fits right in with all those terrifying victorian halloween costumes.
Very good point
I agree, especially in the black and white shots.
Yeah, it looks great and has an extremely old timey halloween vibe!
Absolutely!
yeah, especially since they were usually homemade!
That opening montage was absolutely glorious
It was legit everything I didn’t know I needed🥰
Thank you 😂😂😂❤️❤️❤️
The most glorious.
I agree!
I need more!!
I feel like I’m reaching that stage in adulthood where I realize I can do what I want and start living all my childhood dreams now too. You go pumpkin head lady 🤙
Hahaha yes!!
I was just thinking that!
Hell yeah !!!
I've been saying 2020 is the year to dream small! Do all your weird little wonderful things you want that others might think strange because a pandemic is the best excuse for going crazy 😁
@@rachelmaksyyou’re even more beautiful when you’re wearing glasses
I know she thinks it looks terrifying and she doesn't like it but i love literally all of it.
Rachel: This look awful, I hate it
Me: :is so impressed and thinks it looks hella cool and adorable:
I thought it was relatively cute, too. Cuter than the artist Rachel referenced, I'd hazard to say...
Same!
Yes, thank you ! She looks so cute 😭
I’m sorry Rachel, YOU ARE WRONG! She’s perfection. Does not look like hot garbage. It’s that early 20th century Halloween costume. Which is perfection. I’m mad at you for saying it’s bad. 🧡
Rebecca Krusinski I was just coming here to say how much I love this!! I love the lumpy, bumpy paper mache look for this costume. I understand that it’s hard to see the good in something when it turns out different that what is envisioned, but it doesn’t change the fact that it’s fabulously fun.
Exactly what I was thinking 😉
This woman is Autumn personified- ALSO HOW DARE YOU SHE IS ADORABLE
That is the cutest, but kind of creepy, thing ever!
This costume looks like a vintage halloween greeting card: kinda cute, kinda disturbing. I love it 😍
Underrated comment
I loved it
Awww, I like the pumpkin head. I think she's cute. Terrifying, but cute.
I genuinely love her! She *is* spooky, in the classic Americana way, and that's a great look. The rustic roughness of the papier-mache adds to it, and your paint job brought that out in a cool way. Sorry she didn't turn out quite how you wanted her to, though!
When you don't find her terrifying at all, and she's cute and reminds you of those ceramic jack-o-lanterns you see this time of year mixed with old-timey cartoons. On another note, maybe you didn't terrify the little girl and just sparked a life long interest in the strange and all things Halloween? Also, I like the names Golda, Olive, Marigold, or Bramble! (faves ranked in that order)
Flora M Marigold! YES!
I agree! She's so dang cute!
Bramble 😍
I love the name marigold🥺🎃
Omg yes she is sooo cute 🥰🎃
This lil' pumpkin lady talks like Snow White and you cannot tell me otherwise.
Now THAT would make her KA-REEPY! I love it! 🎃💗🎃😨🎃😱
She's pretty cute, in that kinda weird "thrift store find kinda" way, like a vintage Halloween decoration. I think I'd name her Pippa or Poppy.
But what about Pippy
As a Pippi, I think “pretty cute in a kinda weird thrift store find way” is how I’m going to sum up myself from now on 😅
Pippi the Pumpkin Patch Maiden
It has a nice ring to it.
I thought Pippa or Peppa (like the pig haha). Great minds? ;-)
Peppaaaaa
This does not look like a trash bag or anything horrible at all! It's AMAZING, I LOVE IT!!🎃🎃🎃🎃
AMEN!!!! 🧡
If any of you guys are planing on doing a pumpkin head you should:
1. Fill up your garbage bag until it's really hard and you can't put in anymore paper.
2. Make your paper strips like a 1.5 inch thick (the smaller de strip the more control you have over the details)
3. Leave it to dry in between layers.
4. Do at least 7 layers (the more layers you add the sturdier it gets and it doesn't look as deflated)
You can also add a thin layer of wall spackle to smooth out any imperfections.
You can also make an awesome clay using the recycled newspaper insulation and a few other ingredients. Helps make features stand out and shapes the basic paper mache pumpkin.
Also! A diy cotton and latex tip that can be applied to paper maché: if you roll out cotton balls and dip them in your mixture, it will create the rises/dips that you’re looking for. You might have to layer them up but I did this for my pumpkin head a couple years ago and he’s going strong!
i really want to make one now! 😂
I’ll tell you the same thing that my husband always tells me, “you’re your own worst critic, it looks great to everyone else, you’re just picking it apart because you made it and you’re a perfectionist”
Truer words have never been spoken
My Mom says that to me all the time
This is truth.
My bf gets mad when I critique my own work lol
I also heard this thing that because you have an original vision, you see a version of what it's supposed to look like. Everyone else, their first viewing is what you made and have nothing to base it off of and never saw the original first idea in your head. Therefore, even if it looks completely different from your original vision, no one knows what it was supposed to be.
She is kind of terrifying but also cute. That's the Halloween aesthetic goal anyway.
This is feeling so Over the Garden Wall that I actually thought it was a direct recreation. I love it !! 😊😁

Also, "She is beauty, she is grace, she has a pumpkin head for a face." 💖🎃👸🏻
She's perfect and adorable. I love her. She looks like a Beatrice to me.
I love her as well so adorable
Beatrice is a perfect name for her!
what’s up with my name? does it mean something in particular that gives it a pumpkin vibe?
@@fbeaz It's not a pumpkin vibe, per se. It just sounds like the name of a kind, wholesome person who's always ready with a happy greeting, enjoys gardening and who you are convinced has a collection of very long, very sharp chef's knives. For cooking... most likely.
Czurnabog i do enjoy gardening, but i don’t think my kitchen knives are sharp enough. as for murder- yep i get it now.
She’s beautiful! Her name should definitely be Jackie Lantern.
I was thinking Jackie too. I love Jackie Lantern
Creepy cute is 100% a thing and that mask is 100% creepy cute. I love her.
When you’ve had a crappy week and you’re literally trying to stay awake until Rachel drops the weekly video.

Tips for anyone going to attempt a paper mache pumpkin (hope this helps)
1) Make VERY pronounced ridges and furrows in your initial structure, because your surface will get much shallower as you add layers
2) Do a layer of strips going in one direction, let that fully dry then do the next layer laying in the opposite direction. this strengthens your base, which should be at least three-five layers
3) Use brown paper towels to do details; this is good for edges of holes that you cut and any protuberances (like the stem or vines). BUT tear the brown paper towels into square shapes rather than strips, they are easier to get small crannies and details with.
4) do a final layer just of brown paper towels, that way your surface will be uniform in texture
5) your base paint layer should not be spray paint. most hardware stores sell Oops wall paints for cheap, just get something neutral in color.
6) dry brush (or air brush) your acrylic paints on top of this. more layers = more depth
7) if your want this thing to keep for more than a year, spray a sealant over the whole thing, inside and out. might be a little glossy.
Most of these tips came from my High school art teacher, who's made 8-10ft paper mache artworks for about a decade.
Can I ask why the base layer shouldn't be spray paint? Too wet?
Additionally, if it is for display rather than wearing, I can definitely recommend making your initial structure out of some kind of mesh of wire (poultry netting or something similar) instead of the garbage bag/paper combo. It is much easier to bend this into the exact shape you want. If you do want to go with the garbage bag, I would recommend tearing the paper into smaller pieces, so that you have more control over the shape of the surface.
@@IzziATL A lot of spray paints are designed to repel moisture and 'dirt' once they dry, which makes any paint you put on top of it want to flake off.
For anyone who want to do papier-mâché.
making a mixture with flower and water you can papier-mâché with it. If you’re done with you’re project, finish it with an old bedsheet and some wood glue and you’re done! ☺️
Hopefully this is helpful for the person who is reading this.
( please excuse my English, it’s not my first language)

I genuinely think shes adorable. Dont be mean to her, Rachel. Thats how you get cursed objects.
And obvsssss her name should be Pauline
I thought Patty... but yes to everything else 😅
I don’t find her terrifying at all!! She’s so cute!
I don't know what you're talking about. She's not creepy and not scary, she's adorable! The whole ensemble looks very cute. 😻
Every video I've watched as so far the design phase has been in a different sketchbook and that's honestly SUCH a mood. Also the life I dream of living
If she is trash, I'm a racoon, because I love her. She is delightfully terrifying :)
Damn, just a little bit hard on herself, isn't she? I LOVE how the head turned out! It's unsettling, but all great things are. It's art, I tell you, ART!
She's not terrifying she's a cute little sweet old lady how dare you insult her
Agree! The whole video I was like "Why? Why do you hate her so much, Rachel, darling?? She is so bright and smily and tries to do her best, she just needs some love..."
I love her, she’s adorable. I’d try her pecan pie
Happy 1 year anniversary to this gem of a video and the creation of the "Cursed Pumpkin Lady". She lives on the outskirts of our nightmares to this day...
I know you didn't like how the mask turned out, but honestly it looks absolutely awesome. The painted on folds of the pumpkin just gave it that vintage flair
Megyn TheAwesomeOne Yeah the pumpkin actually fits the theme when you think about it since a lot of costumes back then where hand made anyway.
"it's finally October" she says as if she hasn't been posting Halloween content for a month now
Rachel: i hate it
All of us in the comments: I love it
I love watching her use patterns to show this is an attainable goal for the rest of us. A lot of channels like this they do it all by sight which is impossible for us beginners. Thanks for giving all of us sewing beginners some hope!! lol

GOSH YES!!!!
My older brother would wear an actual pumpkin on his head for his holloween costume for like three years. He'd cut a hole in the bottom and wear a ski mask to keep warm. He wore it with a suit or just his regular clothes and he was done 😂
Ha! So funny but if you didn't know have to-wearing pumpkin head it seems like it'd be pretty terrifying.
Yes!!! I do this!! They get so heavy after like 2hrs tho haha x
I feel like Rachel wildly overestimates how often the average person does paper mache.
And underestimates how often people go outside before the chill hits
The dull-coloured 'photo' at the end with the ripped edges straight up looks like a photo from 'Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children'.
Clearly her name should be Jackie Lantern. Maybe even stick a light inside and use as decor. 😉
Jackie Chan
Jackie O !! Wait...
My sisters name is Jacqueline. Every year she carve a different version of herself into her Jacky-Lantern.
I was going to say Jacqueline but I like yours better hahahah
@@masuganut2082 I initially thought Jacqueline too!
When there is a time in the future where you even consider to work with papermache again. Here are some tips. For round shapes of all sizes and wierd forms, look at party Ballons. You can also tie them up to create ridges. Next tip use smaller strips of paper. Roughly a inch wide. One layer vertical, next layer horizontal. I usually do 5 to 6 layers. It will be so ridgid that you can even sand some imperfections and even use a machine drill or dremel to create holes. Etc.
I am really glad, that you shared your honest opinion about this build. Many young makers struggle to deal with their mistakes sometimes when they just see only the nice things on UA-cam. Making mistakes or showing that oneself has to improve their own work is a much needed lesson for every maker.
Keep up the good work. 😊👍
Rachel: "For some reason i have always been obsessed with the idea of like human with a pumpkin head"
Me - looking at her wonderful orange-red hair - makes sense 💃🎃
"I don't think horrible...grotesque monster is a great name for my creation" tell that to victor frankenstein
I agree w/ everyone who says she looks perfectly Halloween, and appropriately terrifyingly cute. I also agree with the person who recommended balloons for round papier mache crafts. The only thing I would do differently is make sure my orange paint was very matte. The shiny didn't look pumpkin to me. My nomination for a name is Jacqueline Pumpkinhead, for all people who know that in the books, OZ isn't a dream. Oh, and since looking at her upsets you, you should put her up for auction on EBay.
Balloons are a not quite pumpkin shaped, I'd recommend an inflatable beach ball
Yeah, if your gonna do paper mache use balloons so you can pop them easily.
I actually like how unintitionally horrifying old timey costumes look.
Also "unintentionally horrifying" sounds like a Reddit page.
Aw, I love terrifying pumpkin lady. She really looks like the type of pumpkin head you'd see in vintage Halloween photos. I can imagine some lady in 1913 making a paper mache pumpkin head finishing and saying, "it looks like garbage" just for everyone to see it in a photo now and say, "wow, that's so creepy and cool".
I honestly think the whole costume turned out great! Definitely whimsical and autumnal. After you fix the little fit issues you mentioned, it'll be perfect!

I actually love it and the fact that it’s a bit scary is perfect cuz it’s Halloween! This whole look could literally be on an episode of American Horror Story. You’re too hard on yourself. This one is a win.
I can't believe how much better the head looked after you painted her! Skills! You nailed the old timey Halloween postcard.
i actually LOVE the head! it’s got that 1940s halloween paper decorations vibe - i’m sure you know the style i’m talking about. that stuff is so collectible too
I was thinking the same thing!
I had a brief moment of dyslexia and I thought Frodo's bottle said "butt munch" instead of "mutt bunch". Needless to say, I was confused. xD
Butt munch used to be a weird middle school insult I’d use against annoying jock boys 😂
So I’m dyslexic too. In fourth grade my teacher, which I won a lot of hand writing contest. This time said I can’t let this go. And this is the third piece you’ve handed to me like this and I don’t know what to say.
Apparently I’m right in mirror image. So my teacher told me to grab the hall pass and please go to the bathroom and hold my paper in the mirror. It clicked. Then he asked me when I got back to class to pull out the last three pieces that I wrote I couldn’t believe it. He said he had to hold it in the mirror to read it. He wrote a note on the back but I didn’t read that... hahahahaha
The next week I found myself in a class. Bless the people in the class. I’m not making fun of them in anyway. But I was put in a special class. Some of them were very loud and boisterous and excited that I was new. One boy bless his heart he was drooling and snot coming out of his nose and he kept trying to touch my hair and telling me I was a pretty girl. I balled my eyes out. The teacher walks over and asked if I’m OK and told the boy to sit down and please not touch me. I said I didn’t know that I was special. You know.. “special”... And I balled my eyes out. She assured me no no, she was the only teacher that can help train myself and my brain to see what I was doing. Class was supposed to be for six weeks I was out in two. I really have to look at what I’m writing. And do not ask me to read in class or to anyone. I have a habit of finishing the sentence and then adding it to the beginning it’s so odd I can’t help it it’s my brain. Of course I can read the words. But they just get tossed around.
Which it took me years to get over that... I would purposely read books aloud to help myself see the sentence and see the sentence. So cute my husband says unlike audio books... hahahahaha Oivey
And I saw butt munch too😬🤭😂🤣 stopped myself and said no way reread that!!!
@@jackie9397 my older brother used to call me that when we were little back in the 80s..ah, the memories we have. xD
Sounds like you have spoonerism too
I didn't realize that it didn't say butt munch until I read this comment.
It looks like one of those vintage Halloween photographs where the costumes are unintentionally horrifying. I still appreciate you sharing this with us. Also I agree with you about papermache.
The pumpkin is so cute, whimsical, with a little bit of a Halloween spooky feeling! It turned out amazing! Its inspiring me to want to make one! It really has some vintage vibes to it and I LOVE it.
When I think of pumpkin heads the only thing I could think of is that dancing pumpkin head man meme
YES 😂😂😂
I think she’s the cute version of Jack Skellington from Nightmare Before Christmas. I like her excessively. I think it would have been really spooky if she was carrying a pumpkin pie. Pumpkin cannibalism is terrifying. 😂
I think it's cute n captures the whimsical vibe she was going for. If she isn't named yet, she feels like a Marjorie to me.
As a person who gets scared even with the skeletons scene in The corpse bride: the pumpkin lady is scary-cute. I like her.
It just hit me that if Rachel were have kids later in life- she'd automatically be the best mom because of how dope her family's halloween costumes would be.
Ok, Rachel, I’ve never commented before, but I gotta. You are definitely too close to this project because it is super cute. I think a little bit of scary is inherent in the whole pumpkin head motif, and therefore unavoidable. I’m sorry you are disappointed in the end result, but that’s just part of being the creator sometimes, isn’t it? This was an impressive project and a fabulous video. Four significantly involved pieces in one week? Ambitious and well executed. Brava!
Also, just a suggestion, you could try crossing the straps in the back of the apron. I’ve seen historic pieces like that and it should keep them up on your shoulders. :)
I have been currently making my own pumpkin head. I used a garbage bag full of pillow fluff (for separate projects) and it doesn't look or feel as lumpy as using a bag filled with crumpled newspapers.
I'm so excited for it though. Thanks for the inspiration!
When you realize that she’s able to write off fabric costs as business expenses.
Kinda makes me want to become a youtuber haha!
Luna Tonkens same 😆
But a lot of the fabric that she uses is thrifted.
@@hollypaddock105 You still get receipts at thrift shops though... its still a write-off.
Holly Paddock true, but still
OK - so this is super cute, and is actually inspiring me to make a papier mache pumpkin head. I know your opinion is set - but for anyone else thinking about doing something like this... the only thing to remember is that papier mache takes TIME!!! It would be super hard to do this in three days. I would do a good layer (a few pages thick) - let it dry for 24 hours, and do another 'layer' let it dry for 24 hours, and then do a final 'layer'. Doing several layers and letting it dry all the way builds up the structure and helps you smooth out the rough patches. Again - I think it's cute as is, but taking more time with it could really help minimize the lumpiness.
And maybe also starting with a smoother surface to begin with. The garbage bag filled with paper made the shape very unstable as well!
Maybe build up some layers to accent the ridges?
also, using smaller pieces of paper gives more control of the shaping and helps avoid an excess of lumpy bits... :]
Yesssssssss, I agree! When Rachel said she was putting off the Papier mache for later I was screaming in my head 😅😅 but I really liked Rachel's pumpkin head too, it's adorable!!
Also, dipping the paper into a water/glue mixture (you CAN use normal white glue) and scraping it on the bowl is so much faster. She still did a good job, though and other's should definitely try their own.
I don't think she's scary at all! She's definitely a little lumpy, but in a good tim burton way that makes her very charming. It's always frustrating when you can't make your vision come to life, but remember you only gave yourself a few days to work on a whole outfit! What you ended up with is truly delightful! Also that apron is sooo cute!
Four seconds in and I am already smiling. Thank you Rachel Maksy!
Now that the Pumpkin Lady is finished, I would recommend another romp in the fall leaves. A fall leaf frolic is good for the soul. 🍂🍁😊🍂🍁
The pumpkin is adorable. Sometimes when I create something, I need to give it a few days before I can see the finished product as a whole and and not just the flaws. Perhaps the pumpkin will grow on you. (pun intended) 😉
She's a cute kind of terrifying! She feels like a Mary, or maybe a Prudence
I think you're onto something with Prudence. It would be a good name.
For a name, I’m thinking clarice. She seems like a clarice.
Sam K ooo... Very "silence of the lamb"ish
Not sure if I should be offended or flattered...
@@claricesobon6340 be flattered to have a costume that has your name-
