I haven't done ranked at all this season and this looked fun to play. I tried this deck in Gold. Got crushed. I went 1-7 with it (technically it was 2-7, but one win was due to opponent conceding after doing a double muligan). Lost to 2 monored aggro decks. 1 Rakdos hyperagressive deck (they had 6 one drops and were on the play, I think i might have stabilized if it was on the draw), a mono green and a Gruul deck which just went too big and overtop my creatures, 1 mardu knights that went very wide and one long drawn out game vs a Gates deck playing red sweepers (Gates ablaze and Storms Wrath) with Stormwild Capridor. That one was close, but I ran out of bounce when he was one turn away from death. I never saw any sacrifice decks and 6 out of the 7 losses were agggro. The only deck I beat was a Lurrous Voltron enchantment deck. I only had to use 2 Mythic wildcards for some of the Apex guys. I then went 15-8 using a Jeskai control build and made it to Platinum. pretty close build to ua-cam.com/video/w3vi2ncU5tM/v-deo.html but I added in some Karn because of the popularity of ovens.
Lazotep plating really is an under appreciated card. I run it in any deck that runs blue and creatures haha. Hexproof for everything a body? Yes please
In my experience the shuffler really likes to give you many copies of that card for some reason. An another such card is Mystical Dispute (usually against non-blue deck ofc).
They goofed or were greedy, assuming the typical list that deck, you have to have a creature in your opening hand, and lurrus is too slow to count. By keeping a no creature hand they basically threw that game away. Learning when to mulligan is an important skill.
35:15 Can't you mutate Vadrok to itself? You could cast 2 Dragonfires and remove two Strikers. Next turn, do the same, but arrange the trigger so you return a Dragonfire after casting it for free.
I really think you have improved as a creator in the last year. I think your explanations have improved, your trips into Mythic grant you legitimacy, and you showing your opinions about decks, cards, and situations is valuable. Thanks for putting in that work.
CGB you seem like a nice and quirky dude that would be fun to hang around. The way you asked us for our opinions on showing matches where the opponent draws badly, was so polite haha. Cheers for the content mate!
as you not only show the opponents bad luck but also your own, and you allways take the time to comment on the possbilities you have with your "bad hand", i like all the games you show. Magic is not about let's say showing off a flashy combo itself, but how to get there no matter the position you find yourself in. i learn a lot from your matches, and seeing you having good luck from time to time when the oponent get's manascrewed also warms my heart. there you go, i usually don't care about youtube polls, but as you honestly value our opinion and i care about your content i took the time. i even took the time to explain how i took the time. Btw, your thousand year ultimatuum deck is one of my favourites, and now i see everyone is showing of some version of it on youtube...well, it was a good run :D
Thanks for asking. I, for one, prefer the interesting matches. There is so much quality content over there and we have so little time... I don't think anyone would have missed something without that mono Season of Growth game or without the Rakdos stuck on two lands...
I think as long as you’re honest about those games and don’t act like your deck and skill was the only reason you won. The fact that you acknowledge the opponents luck is one of the reasons I enjoy your videos
Hey there CGB, and other viewers, this list was inspired by your Whirlwind of Thought Ghidorah mutation deck (The previous incarnation of this video's deck, as far as I can tell). I've basically been tinkering with it since I watched the Ghidorah video. Not sure if it's any good, as I'm relatively new to the game, but it has been pretty fun to play. In one hand, I prefer watching only matches that you consider interesting but in the other hand, i don't want your vidz to be shortest ! Greetings from France !
I like both interesting and blowout "easy" games. As intermediate level player it's very helpful to hear your process of thinking. Sometimes your so far ahead of your opponent it seems like a "boring" match but is very beneficial to understand! Thanks for the great vids!! I also get a weird satisfaction when players scoop after 3 drops XD
For me it's nice to see all games. Because your commentary is fun and i can learn a lot. Don't wanna see just the bright sight of Magic. I wanna see broken shuffler too. ;-)
Thanks CGB, this is the kind of deck I've been playing with in some form since I saw you make version 1. Love it :) Lazotep Plating and Role Reversal, just genius :)
Been trying to get something similar to work but I went the red burn spells route with W splash for thunder boy. It goes and at the same time it doesnt. Thrill/union used for draw and spell recursion. Steam kin for some explosive plays
This probably won't get seen by you cgb, but the kroxas allure deck that you posted a few months ago is doing phenomenal vs rakdos sac jund sac monored and cycling. Very powerful underrated combo in this new meta. Thank you as always for the content.
22:00 I feel like the most important thing to answer this question is what kind of videos are these meant to be? Are they mainly about showcasing the deck and what it can do? Is it about showing how highly competitive they are and how viable they are in a high-level play environment? Or is the video supposed to be more focused around you and your thoughts and processes while playing the game with the deck? Depending on your answer, your first question becomes easier to help answer. And please don't try and say, "Oh, well the point of the video is to entertain you guys, so what do you guys want?" First of all, that is a boring reason b/c you're already entertaining us. If you weren't, we wouldn't be here (I really enjoy your content btw. I find it super interesting listening to you think out loud, giving me some thought paths I'd never would have considered, at least not as quickly.) Secondly, not only are you already entertaining us, that's what this UA-cam platform is about as well. Probably a better question to ask would be like, "When you guys come to watch my videos, what do you guys expect?" That could tell you a lot more about your current audience and their perspective on you/your channel. (God, I'm getting deeper into this than I need to.) As for me personally, well I feel like my first paragraph explains my stance pretty well. I feel as though that what you believe the purpose of your videos/series will help determine what to take out and what to leave in. It may not be as helpful as you'd like (like maybe a straight-forward answer), but I hope it at least wasn't confusing to understand.
One idea I thought of after commenting is maybe posting the full length vods on either a seperate channel or unlisted on this channel, but idk if that is a viable option for you, but it'd be a way to try to have best of both worlds, with the main downside for the audience wanting the full run-through having to click an extra 1 or 2 times in the description. There are certianly other consequences, both positive and negative (like most probably extra work), but again this was just a random idea that popped in my head afterward.
I´ve actually found that Amass works amazingly with Red-Blue-Black. Not Rakdos, not Dimir, not Izzet, all three of them, it´s really fun. Especially with ability tokens that arrived on Ikoria to give the army Hexproof and first strike and stuff like that even if you dont get the right cards to do it with the Amass cards themselves Oh, and also, Thassa is must in that deck
Fun run on the later bro. I watch every video and love your videos. Keep all games please :) plus I love your Jeskai Mutate, I will have to try it on ladder too.
The lethal check during the game against the Seasons of Growth player was off. Mutate Snapdax onto token, killing Lurrus and Scorching it if they try to protect it dealt 12 exactly for lethal.
You should show all games. It is good to see a game where the deck runs uninterrupted. Sometimes you have a game like that. Some decks need the other player to do something to respond to, and so also flounders. It is good to see ever match up.
so i took the principle of this deck and changed it a decent amount, running 4 defening clarions just destroys the whole bo1 ladder, you only need to draw 1 and then it allows you to be able to cycle its uses extremely easy. using one of your spells to amass then mutate lore or vandrok it lets you free cast clarion and then also use its 2nd affect of lifelink for a bunch of free healing since it will have at least 4 health. im also using 3 baby dino to lower the cost on the mutates and cycling. using 2 bounce sharks also which just makes it with free cast dismissal or 2 free cast of it if you have it doubled up then you have a bounce on top. just keep forcing them to use their mana over and over to set up. i lost to black red sac deck 2 times, once due to mana screwed and then once to him having the super nuts then topping the super nuts back to back to back. he literally casted 3 of the revives spells in 4 turns
So the super friends deck you were playing at the end there, I have a super friends deck as well. Kaya is awesome tech for the sacrifice decks. It also works to kill opponents off at low life totals from other walkers doing damage. Looking forward to core 21 and all the new walkers to play superfriends with. Sad we are losing all the other walkers in rotation this fall.
I don’t doubt your integrity when it comes to showing wins and losses. I watch for the insight/commentary into the match. Would rather not watch a mana screwed game. But knowing match ups and what to look for at each turn assuming best draws and available mana is a great resource. Anticipating the opponent’s moves and having/looking for answers is valuable to me.
hah amazing, been playing my own version of jeskai mutate for like 2 weeks and its so much fun. My version is way different though. Lower curve overall with more mutate( baby godzilla and dasher octopus). Baby godzilla is great to help the mutate earlier for turn3 vadrok, discard teferi and play teferi from gy. Octopus is another cheap trigger that can be flashed in.
i do appreciate you not cutting games, adds authenticity to your builds. instead of editing out something like the season of growth game, you could cut out parts of the game, leaving in the valid parts that explain what happened. You do recap enough in your normal game-play conversation to be able to pull this off most of the time. or, of course, you could do a couple sentence voice over explaining what happened.
You can’t, you can only mutate on creatures you own, it doesn’t matter who controls them. If I remember correctly you could even mutate creatures the opponent stole from you with agent though the person controlling the creature would get the benefits of mutating
When the netdeckers get screwed by their own draw please show it. My inner vengeful sadist gets filled with glee for every tear shed by a Rakdos sacrifice player.
I think a win/loss counter to show how many games were played between interesting games would be good enough to keep integrity alive and keep thevideos interesting.
I'm keen on seeing the whole thing. I have lost tournament rounds because of getting flooded one round and mana screwed the second round. That's just MTG.
SHOW THOSE GAMES! I like to see all matches no matter the outcome, still gives us a chance to see the deck a bit and it lets me know i'm not the only one with bad luck variance
Ah, I just met this one and crushed it with my monoblack Liliana deck. Plague crafter and Liliana, ritual of soot and so on being able to ignore lazotep.
"Make your voice heard" ; are we required to also do it via the medium of duck hands? I think you could go in the middle a bit with cutting the complete flop games (land issues etc) but summarise how many of them you had in the run?
Speaking of Amass, I ran into someone earlier today who was playing a Grixis Amass deck with The Obolisk and Mecha Godzilla. It seemed like a fun janky deck to do and I'd like to see someone try it out.
Oh yeah, they either deal with The Ozolith (not Obolisk) or lose whereas it used to be they used to just need to deal with one token. It's still kind of a one trick pony unless you get lucky with Crystalline Giant and you'd think mutation is amazing with them, but if you try mutating over the zombie it ruins the lifelink from dreadhorde which you'll probably need.
The diversity is what keeps bringing me here: T3feri is always surrounded by 2 or 3 new cards. Amazing.
I've seen Lazotep Plating do some really sick things before, but this... I've never seen a sacrifice player through so much pain before.
Lazotep Plating is a godlike card when used correctly.
He got T-Rekt X_X
Show all the games, not because the run, but because I want to see what other folks are playing in the higher levels of ranked

You can’t, you can only mutate on creatures you own, it doesn’t matter who controls them. If I remember correctly you could even mutate creatures the opponent stole from you with agent though the person controlling the creature would get the benefits of mutating
I'm not sure how editor would feel about it but maybe try doing a super cut showing that it wasn't much of a game but still including it in a way.
I find it quite fun how 1 card (Leyline of Sanctity) can shut down most of the standard decks being played perhaps make a video with that?
When the netdeckers get screwed by their own draw please show it. My inner vengeful sadist gets filled with glee for every tear shed by a Rakdos sacrifice player.
22:00 maybe you could do a picture-in-picture of the bad game fast forward while you explain why you're not showing it?
Anyone finding Play mode is matching to similar decks, or a very narrow field of decks? E.g colour matching most of the time
I think a win/loss counter to show how many games were played between interesting games would be good enough to keep integrity alive and keep thevideos interesting.
I'm keen on seeing the whole thing. I have lost tournament rounds because of getting flooded one round and mana screwed the second round. That's just MTG.
You could do that thing where youtubers put ingrained timestamps for interesting games
Good video. Nice strange deck and elucidating end explanation.
I tech Lazotep plating vs the cycling deck, to counter the 4 mana spell
As an amass type deck enthusiast, Lazotep Plating is my most favourite card!
SHOW THOSE GAMES! I like to see all matches no matter the outcome, still gives us a chance to see the deck a bit and it lets me know i'm not the only one with bad luck variance
I have been losing to that green mutate deck that uses paradise druid, so difficult to counter anything they do if they mutate on paradise druid.
Ist Gyruda allready dead? What about just having 4 copies in the deck?
I like that you show all of the games in the video, maybe you could timestamp it so people that want to skip boring games can.
I also prefer the full run! Cool videos btw. I love your commentary and your insights. Cheers
What podcast are you on again?
20:03 Despite your check, you did miss lethal. Snapdax with +1/+1 does 8 dmg. +4 dmg in the air means lethal if you burned the lurrus out of the way
the spice coming from that role reversal is nuts
Keep all the games in, I like the full experience, not just the spicy games
Anyone knows what is the last deck?
@cgb, Show those games, a game is a game even any player draws unlucky, a fine games timeline is best 😀👍
Show all the games please. Your thought processes is high level and commentary is entertaining 😁
So glad Teferi is in this deck, keeping the streak going. Bring back mono red Teferi!
12:12 why not target a friendly creature that regains the health half a sec later? :P
On the games front, if their is like 3 games where that happens, it would get boring, but if it’s only 1 it’s fine
