- The mortar has had a controversial history like the xbow, but has been changed over the years to be less annoying yet remain fair. What makes them so different though? This video covers the entire history, from early days, to balance changes, through highs and lows, bugs, and its evolution.

As a mortar player: This card is so fun. I hope they keep it viable but niche for a while. Genuinely don't think I've played a more fun and offense oriented building before, plus it's great as I'm F2P
Mortar is easily my favorute card. To me it really doesen’t make sense how it is a common card when it has so many unique abilities going for it

The rarities “never” making sense issue could be easily explained by how rare the sight of these cards in the Clash Royale Universe, for which the mortar is apparently a common sight on the battlefield….

As a Mortar player myself, I’ve loved that building throughout the years. The fact that it has evolution is excellent as I use it in my main deck

Will you consider making a video on the Sparky? As someone who played in 2016-2018 and hasn't touched the game since, I'm curious to see how my favourite card has turned out, and I've seen gameplay of it in many of your videos so I'm wondering if there's any crazy history about it too! Sparky is pretty hard to use but it's a great card if you know what you're doing
@@dvirshitrit2022 the biggest change was in 2017 but over the years sparky had worse metas or really great ones like it is the current one

sparky has typically been used with tanky win conditions for the better part of recent years and as a consequence when these cards are nerfed/phase out of the meta the sparky suffers alot so it’s kind of in a purgatory of being good until the win condition is nerfed
I've played mortar since day 1. It may have high win rates, but with such low usage, it shouldn't be nerfed. Instead nerf overused cards to get players to branch out

Always remember evolutions solely exists to make either bad cards good, or balanced cards even better.
Mortar is actually by far one of the most balanced of all the current evolutions in the game (of course as of this comment since there will be more in the future).
In fact, the mortar evolution is actually my first evolution card not because I’m interested in these siege decks you see these days, but the fact the goblin it spawns makes it a great stall support card for the deck I use. The ability to chip off fireballies after the shot hits them followed by something like a log or zap makes the mortar evolution absolutely great in my opinion at least.
The current stats is fine as it is, especially since earthquake also exists too

I have lots close matchups with Evo Mortar and every time the elixir hits 2x, 3x I have a feeling it is like really impossible for me to defend the mortar and the only way I can win against mortar is to get lead in Tower Damage.
Trust me I've had lost like 2000 Tower health each time I make a minor mistake!
Not to break it down, but Mortar has recieved 0 balance changes, making it the least balanced Evolution, not OP
A sudden thought in my brain lead to move through midladder menance deck and my ass brain choose mortar from that day I am surfing this internet to find good mortar decks so tell me your mortar deck and my mortar deck for now is

Not to be that guy but evolutions don’t excel at making bad cards better, because the bad cards it’s on are niche. So far almost all the evolution have been on decent or great cards, the only exception really being barbarians.
id say evos are used to make cards with a boring cycle more exciting to play. like royal giant, the gameplay loop would be dropping it and support, while with the evo sometimes you want to save it which adds a bit of complexity to the cycle. and stuff like valk, which was a very boring card to drop and play against, all of a sudden has a breath of fresh air to it
Love the video! I main mortar 3.0(the og mortar rocket deck with valk instead of knight) and this video was so fun to watch and learn the history of my main.
My main deck revolves around it and I always loved it, never hated it, mortar is in my clash Royale journey history. So cool to know the history of the decks because I was a 2016-2017 player and 2020-currently good work man 😊

What a banger video. I run this deck as one of my war decks: Evo Mortar, SB, SK, Skarmy, MH, Archers, Wizard, and Log. It's been a great deck for me, especially considering the Evo Archers in the Double Evo Challenge.
I run it as my main deck, a bit of an older archetype with cannon cart bats spear gobs etc and hit ultimate champ with it

As a mortar evo player, i can just say mortar is fun. And if you are good at playing it you can win every match except multiple gay win conditions situations

It hasn’t really been changed except for going from horizontal clone to vertical
Mortar has a great niche on the ladder of being very good when underleveled compared to other win conditions. Whether or not it hits the tower can be entirely dictated by skill and outplaying your opponent so even if it doesnt do as much damage or have enough hp to stick around, a good player can keep creating scenarios when it gets a hit on tower, even with a level disadvantage. It carried me through challenger 1 and 2, just pre path of legends, at lvl 12 vs lvl 14s, and now is holding its own in a lvl 14 deck with no evos playing almost exclusively max lvl 15 decks with 2 evos
The dead zone has made the mortar my favorite card for for 4 years. I kinda miss mortar being non meta because now people know how to handle it better and mortar v mortar matchups suck… in all of 2020 and 2021 i mightve gotten mortar v mortar matchups just two or three times

I actually experimented with a deck that took advantage of the mortar's deadzone by using Fisherman to pull cards out of its targeting range, either following up with guards or a hunter to deal with whatever the fisherman dragged in.
Thank you for your content. I really enjoy watching your documentories and think about cards with an objektiv view. I‘m a Mortar Player for something around two years now. I love the different sites and variants of it. It is so fun to stay in your side of the game and protection a building with your life, while your opponent gets nervous and starts making mistakes.

I love mortar. I haven’t played since they added evolutions though (not necessarily because of the evolutions or the Diamond pass, just by chance), so I haven’t had a chance to use the evo mortar

this made me nostalgic for my old mortar cycle deck- Mortar, dp, ice wiz, archers, gobs, log, zap/nado, ice spirit- i remember running this and then something similar gaining popularity with knight instead of dark prince-
nowadays i’m running evo mortar, valk, musket, hog rider, evo skellies, bats, snowball, eq- wish my old deck was still viable- those were the days

Edit: My most used evo is evo mortar and it feels really good to use since people never expect it. I'd rather it not get buffed since it's still a really strong card and a buff would cause attention to it which would make it nerfed. Evo mortar is completely viable

I do mainly play Mortar myself, mostly since it's the archetype my fav card, the Cannon Cart, has its strongest niche in.
And I really enjoy playing Mortar Cannon Cart decks, they're really fun imo!

I dont wanna be that guy, but you mentioned the nerfs for mortar and the time it was while recieving them was around rascals, i may be one of the persons involucrated in that, since before the prince mortar, and a bit before rascals, i was running still prince and pekka in the same deck which was risky, i ended up changing to a more mortar strat with prince since it was my fav card, and rapidly got to the highest arena, later i found rascals were perfect since the cut for knight and archers to dart goblin and rascals made the deck more consistent, that so the log bait meta wasnt effective, also prince was like a pretty solid secondary or in my case principal damage output to use as bait and defense, since prince wasnt popular around that time, the later buff made it even better, i only used log to further made better use of the prince, but it turned out to be pretty effective to bait any card the opp had to use and then take that out to put mortar in.
I may be one of the first to run the pince mortar actually, which would be funny since i really grinded at that time when i started playing that deck, some week or month after the use of my deck, it turned out to get pretty popular, since it was getting consistent for me to get mirrors, like 2 or 3 of every 10 games. Pretty happy to see prince actually seeing some use after having a pretty bad time being a bad unit.

My current two main decks are as follows
Deck 1: knight, firecracker (evolution), mortar, log, electro wiz, dart goblin, earthquake, and skeletons
Deck 2: mortar, log, ice spirit, goblin barrel, fire cracker (evolution) , knight, hog rider, and dart goblin
21:00 this is my main deck and its my fav. For me, i think it takes skill to master this deck

You could argue that there are other dead zone troops, just not on the main attack, like Mega Knight's or Rogue's dash

Use this deck Monk, motor, archers, magic archer, poison, guards and fisherman it's either the motor connects or the monk ability connects

The most OP card of all time was the goblin barrel at the beginning of clash, it hit almost instantly after landing and the goblins attacked faster. Even zapping them you could get 4 hits on the tower and any other spell is a waste of elixir making them add the log into the game as a hard counter because it would be hard to rework 1 card that affects 2 other cards.
