The role of old Baron Wolfgang von Wolhausen, was played by Jürgen Prochnow, a legendary german actor, who starred "Das Boot", a well known Wolfgang´s Petersen´s film.
Nobody gets those submarine or boot jokes.

Fun Fact: Theatrical movie debut of Candace Smith.
Movie Magic Fact: The cast drank non-alcoholic O'Doul's beer during most of the filming, although alcoholic beer was sometimes consumed near the end of a day of filming.
Casting Notes Fact: Jürgen Prochnow makes a comment about how he "had a bad experience in one of these before" when in the submarine. This is a reference to Das Boot (1981), in which Prochnow starred as The Captain.
Wolfhaus Arena Art Fact: While in the Beerfest "arena" they show portraits of the Von Wolfhaus ancestors. One of the portraits is of the 11th President of the United States James K. Polk. The portraits were painted by Kevin Heffernan's artist brother and now hang in the Broken Lizard office.
Location Location Fact: The t-shirts worn by the contestants in the hot dog eating contest display a yellow, red and turquoise logo, which is identical to New Mexico state license plates. The plates consist of a yellow background, red numbers and letters, and turquoise graphics on the bottom. A large portion of Beerfest was filmed in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Broken Lizard Fact: Broken Lizard is an American comedy troupe that comprises Jay Chandrasekhar, Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme, Paul Soter, and Erik Stolhanske. They collaborate on the screen-writing, acting and productions of their films, with Chandrasekhar and Heffernan being primarily directors. The team however does not have any single leader and they work collaboratively when choosing material and writing projects. The group formed at Colgate University in 1989.

There is an Oktoberfest in LaCrosse Wisconsin every year, too, if you can't make it to Germany. Well, many cities in Wisconsin, lol. A lot of Germans settled Wisconsin, so they have been celebrating it on a large scale there since 1961. It is like St. Patricks Day, but everyone is German for a few days, lol.

This movie reminds me better times. When this came out i remember me and my bro buying tickets to something else and sneaking into Beerfest. After Super Troopers we HAD to check this out.
I effing love the the Willie Nelson cameo at the end, I'm huge fan of his music. Ps he just released a Christmas album, perfect for a family Christmas party because you can light up to it and get in the holiday spirit.

Fun fact about this movie; at night when they weren’t filming they were actually having beers drinking competitions.
The one they did between Super Troopers and this is slept on. It's called Club Dread and it's a fun slasher. Hope you get to it.

I went to Oktoberfest in Munich once. Too crowded to get a beer (unless you post up for a spot at 6 AM). I did get a huge pretzel, though :)
Also, coined the term “street pizza” on account of all the puddles of vomit you had to be careful to avoid…. Good times! Prost!

Faaaaaax, Club Dread is top notch, better or on par with Beer Fest to me, RIP Bill Paxton. Slammin' Salmon' is a solid surprise for most folks as well

This movie is hilarious, so I'm excited to watch your reaction to it. It actually inspired me when it came out to come up with my own "Beerfest" of sorts with games and a whole ruleset and everything. Granted, I was just out of high school at the time and it never went anywhere, but it was a fun concept 🤣🤣

You have seen the guy who played Finklestein in Super Troopers, he was the guy who would "test his speed" with the radar gun and was shot in his metal underwear at the target range.

Octoberfest is fun as long as you don't get too drunk.

The science guy was Mack from Super Troopers. He is the one that wore the nut cup and had them chase him at the beginning of the movie.
On the subject of what you received in your PO Box, those Heisei era "Gamera" movies are dynamite (namely the first 3). Arguably better than the competing "Godzilla" films that were being produced at that time.

I agree with your opinion on Beerfest. I saw it in the movies in 2006. Our friends were all gearing up to see something else and we missed the beginning, so we settled on Beerfest.
A few of our friends found the movie sophomoric, immature and stupid. A few (myself included) found it to be a movie we can watch anytime without getting bored. I like it overall.

The nerd was the wild one “Mac” in super troopers. Wore the bullet proof jock strap on the range, dressed up in the wig and bandana and took the boys on the police chase etc

Another great reaction, J! Glad you loved this movie so much. This is my favorite of the Broken Lizard films that I've seen (though I haven't seen them all). It reminds me of when I was stationed in Germany; spent most of the time trying to drink that country dry. I failed miserably, but it was fun trying.
BTW, Oktoberfest - despite the name - usually starts in mid-september, and ends in early October. I never got to go while I was in Germany because my unit was always deployed in the filed during that time, but there are so many beer halls, and so many tests all year round in Germany that it wasn't that much of a loss. And you can go to the Hofbrauhaus in Munich anytime and it's like Oktoberfest every day of the year.
I'm jealous that you received the Gamera film collection. I've been trying to get that for awhile, and I'm hoping Santa will drop it off this year. I know you film these videos ahead of time, but it's appropriate that you showed your gift on November 27, which is Gamera Day, which marks the 58th anniversary of the release of the first Gamera movie.

Cloris Leachman (Great Gam Gam) and Jürgen Prochnow (Baron Wolfgang von Wolfhausen) will always be the reason why I prefer this movie to Super Troopers. Jürgen starred as the Captain in the 1981 film Das Boot. This movie has several references to that film, particularly when Jürgen mentions having a “bad experience” in a German U-boat.

Forgot to add, I’ve been to Munich numerous times. Bavaria is beautiful and I’ve visited Oktoberfest 5 times while living there. A blast every time.

It's not QUITE as good as Super Troopers or Beerfest, but The Slammin Salmon is another one I think you'd like (same actors AND my favorite Michael Clarke Duncan role too.) Club Dread was the least funny of their movies together; and it's up to you whether or not you even want to though.

My favorite of the Broken Lizard movies. Though Club Dread is EXTREMELY underrated. And that one has Bill Paxton. And who doesn't love that guy?
You should also check out Puddle Cruiser. It's the movie the Broken Lizard guys made before Super Troopers (they were college students at the time, and it's probably the best comedic student film i've ever seen (no running around in the woods, and everyone dying at the end because they don't know how to end a movie) It's a legit teen comedy set in a college, made by students. Deserves more love.

A group of about 45 of us go to Opening weekend of Oktoberfest yearly. Great time and Munich is a good city. 2024 is Sept 21st until Oct 6th.
