      William Gowling Riverdale is like OC California with these rich kids... not relatable at all. And i didn't even finish the first season because it had such lame storytelling, i asked myself after 7(?) episodes: What is this show about? I didn't have a clue honestly.

      but that was the point of Love, Simon. A kid who has everything can still struggle with their sexuality. I haven't seen Riverdale, but from what I heard, that wasn't the message of that show

    Movies with gay characters have come along way since the 90s. See "Parting Glances" "Fun Down THere" and "Eban and Charlie". Only small independent movie companies would produce that kind of movie. Today mega companies have finally begun to make LGBT movies that we can relate to. Finally! I hope we NEVER go back to the 90s

    I'd say it isn't that there isn't enough representation, it's that it isn't done properly. They show a gay guy as feminine or a lesbian as butch instead of just a normal person.

    • @abbyw7444
      @abbyw7444 6 років тому +31

      Waffleman in Love, Simon both Blue and Simon aren’t portrayed as a stereotypical gay kid, just as anyone and it’s really refreshing :))

    • @natex.x1955
      @natex.x1955 6 років тому +9

      I find that ironic because (especially in the book) Bram is a soccer player and a jock. While Simon is into theatre and such, i think he's well portrayed. (Just my opinion 😄)

    • @enjogior5489
      @enjogior5489 6 років тому +21

      so if a gay guy is "feminine" then they're not a normal person? There are more feminine guys out there, and they deserve representation too. I think the movie did well in including both "masculine" gay men as well as a "feminine" one, who not to mention presents an extremely intelligent viewpoint and is used as a device to discuss bullying in schools.

      Women with opinions? Scary right.

    • @amberguilfoyle7549
      @amberguilfoyle7549 6 років тому

      Aoife Why'd you make it into a gender issue? People are allowed to disagree with an opinion, no matter if it comes from a female or a male. It doesn't automatically mean that people are sexist just because they don't agree with a female's opinion, which, in this case, wasn't even about gender in the first place. Nobody made a single sexist remark except you. Not everything is about gender.

    • @Aoife13
      @Aoife13 6 років тому +2

      Bam Bi The fact that you watched this video and thought it wasn't about gender says a lot. This interview is almost entirely about gender, be that woman's representation in media or the prevalence of heteronormativity in Hollywood. Men are rarely accused of having "agendas"; in contrast women who have opinions on gender/sexuality/etc are *always* accused of having an agenda. If you read more widely and engaged some critical thought you would realize this and understand what it means.

    • @amberguilfoyle7549
      @amberguilfoyle7549 6 років тому

      Aoife The fact that you thought my comment was about the video says a lot. I am aware of the issues this interview brought to light and that gender was one of them but I disagree that it was almost entirely about it. It was mainly about LGBT representation in media and the over sexualization of teenagers of both genders. They are not gender problems, they are human problems. My original reply was in response to yours stating "Women with opinions? Scary right." That was not relevant to anything stated previously following the original comment. Nobody was questioning her right to post that comment, they were merely stating their own opinions. While some of them were unnecessarily rude, that doesn't make it a gender issue as you seemed to assume. This particular conversation was not about gender in the slightest until you made it appear so, just as you're making the video out to be primarily about something it's not. Perhaps if you stopped jumping to conclusions and making everything about gender, it wouldn't be a gender issue, as is the reality. Don't try to undermine my opinions with cheap insults. It won't work. Stick to the topic.
