    "This is a traditional folk song by Japanese folk singer and legend from Kagoshima, Ikue Asazaki 朝崎郁恵 entitled: Obokuri Eeumi おぼくり ええうみ, (Obtain Our Bearings). The song proved to be quite popular amongst anime fans the world over after it was featured in one of the most touching scenes (scene #14) in the anime Samurai Champloo サムライチャンプルー . The anime television series was broadcast from May 2004 to March 2005 on Fuji TV network.
    As one can tell from the music, it is a song of sadness, poverty and longing."

    only 400 years of slavery can produce music with vibes like this. Reminds me of slave spirituals. Music used to get you through the toughest of times.

      I believe it’s a song about the many wars and how they were used as war fodder for Japan

    • @ravimanne8148
      @ravimanne8148 2 роки тому +12

      @@ninetailsgaming2919 it does. The Ryukyun people struggled to maintain their cultural heritage due to the wars, assimilation of their culture into Japan, and class struggles for centuries mixed with the fact they were used as fodder for many of Japan’s wars. It also noted personal poverty, lower class struggles, and an attempt at love amidst these trying times at the very end despite the judge mental and prying eyes of the moon Ie upper class. Another thing about this songs beauty is that nowadays Japan is not entirely about cultural assimilation and exceptionalism as it was during its 1600-imperial era but rather cultural expression and understanding to some extents that songs and dialects like these came to flourish despite having historically looked down upon roots in Ryukyun culture.

    Before I knew the words to this song. I felt such a deep sadness coming from it. I first heard this watching Samurai Champloo, and hearing it while watching Mugen drown... It brought a pain, a pain that asks why me?...
