- Fluid change and inspection of the 1971 GMC 1/2 truck differential. Oh that smell! Once you see that diff crack open, you'll be able to SMELL exactly what I did. Serviced with fresh posi additive and some new oil. No talking - just work!

Thanks for the demo! 😁👍
Had some unused footage. Figured I’d use it instead of throw it on a hard drive and forget it.
@@MuscleCarSolutions 👍 well this week for me, I've been applying filler all over the sheet metal, so I really didn't film any of that just because just pretty boring mixing filler and spreading it, so I'm going to be spending the next few weeks ironing the sheet metal out.
@@VinoRatRodbuilds understood. You’ve got a lot of arm and shoulder work outs to do! 😆
Not going to lie, I kind of like the smell of gear oil. Not sure why everyone else hates it.
Edit: I also want to add, I cant stand RTV, mostly due to the cleanup when removing something that was RTVed on. I try to avoid it at all costs. When I changed the diff oil in my 78 Dodge W200, I bought LubeLocker brand gaskets for the Dana 60 and Dana 44 in my truck. Expensive for a gasket but high quality and reusable. Didnt use RTV at all and its been 3 or 4 years now and it hasnt leaked a drop, knock on wood.
I don’t mind it if it’s not been in forever and a little worn out. This one actually wasn’t that bad. But the smell does stick with you!
Nice Bone, I think that’s the first time I’ve seen you do a no talking video, lol, I did a 3 part video on the Airtex electric fuel pump👍
I did one a few months back on just some miscellaneous work I did on the GMC. I know they aren’t exactly my thing and it’s not what folks expect from me, but I had the footage and figured why not! I’ll check out your fuel pump videos!
Yep... I'm already smelling my '69 C10 diff. That's my next project when the garage floor ain't -20 degrees.
No doubt! We’ve had a week or two of cold weather. Back to the 60-70s next week. Can’t wait!
That circular wire wheel you're using on the drill is a man-eater!! I'd suggest dropping in harbor freight and getting a muffin style wire wheel. I just had one get loose from my grip and chew through a glove and eat up my hand. Only thing that type of wheel is good for is on a bench grinder.
Hey it’s worked for me for the last 40 years! I’m too old to change that habit now. 😆
I can only imagine my daily driver rearend just went out so I'll be getting to smell that stuff soon enough
It’s the smell that you never forget! 😆
I have 72 gmc c15. What’s the easiest way to see if rear needs posi additive? Thank you
Do you have the part numbers or links for the gasket and diff cover? Thanks!
Yup. Link is in the description to the gasket. It’s the factory cover.
@@MuscleCarSolutionsthank you. What about the oil and posi additive
