AS for DiagROM, it's absolutely essential for any Amiga repair. I would be lost without it. I have plans with Chucky to rework it significantly to make it easier to develop

Ah, A500 memories. My A500 was the older revision with only 512K chip ram and the OCS Agnus (1.2 KS). Over time it evolved, and I added the fat Agnus, 2.xx KS, another 512K in the trapdoor (old school card too, with the clock), and a VXL 68030 (40Mhz) and 68882 FPU, and 12MB Fast RAM. My first HD was an 80 MB SCSI drive that I remember cost me $1000 in 1987. I used that machine as my daily driver until about 1991 when it was destroyed in a move, and I parted out the remainders to replace it with a 486 machine - sad, but made more sense for my professional life. Today I have two A4000's that I tinker with, but professionally the Amiga line isn't where I can earn a living anymore.

Very fascinating to see the methodology in diagnosing problems. Love your videos Maddi. Don't put too much pressure on yourself to release videos in a regular manner. Always a joy to see one uploaded no matter what you're looking at. Your old videos are very bingeable and have done at least 2 viewings of each! Keep being awesome ♥

@16:48 The Turrican games and everything else written by Factor 5 will recognise and use two separate fire buttons. :)

I struggle with the word peripheral as well. I miss my Amigas... Cheers Ms Lemon.

This was a master class on the A500. It must be wonderful to look at its motherboard and know all of its internal workings.
I would like to see more of your Minecraft world, maybe a nod to your first videos.
    Also, those microphones are wonderful.

Hardware diagnostics aside, the color of these cases is the lovely gray. I wish my A500 hadn't turned the darker shade of beige.

Looking at this board, it seems it has single-wipe chip sockets - metal contact only on one side. These are notorious for becoming intermittent - I replace them on sight whenever I get a machine in for repair regardless. It looks as if the Agnus socket may have been replaced already too - I don't recall Commodore ever using brown ones.

That FDD suffers from a SBC on the detection switch (shitty bad connection), a very common sickness affecting electrical things, it's like the common cold but for electrical things.

There is also TestProgram 3+ on Aminet. For DiagROM, download and unzip the file to read the instructions on what happens and the Serial output (9600, 8N1). Occasionally, a capacitor replacement will fix odd A500 issues: as they age and begin to fail, odd things happen.

This is a great video. Thank you! Your channel was one of the ones that inspired me to make own. It’s niche, but I don’t care. It’s what I love! Thanks again!

5:22 it would be useful to check the NE555 area, searching for any spot of oxidation or so.

Hi nice Amigas. I have found DiagRom very useful when the floppy drive goes down and other things play up "BAD".

Hi Maddi, hope you are well. Great tour of the 500. That is frustrating the issue you have with the other a500. Know you use the meanwell so probably not power supply. When you say it’s 90% of time is it fine to begin with and get worse over time? Wonder if one of the custom chips are faulty and it’s over heating after a while.
Hope you find the issue, those kind can be so annoying. Take care.

Paula chip? Interesting on how Commodore names their chips names like that. My mother's name is Paula.

Awesome video of honest love and specifications!
I have a question that probably belongs on Reddit. Would it be possible to populate the empty slow RAM sockets on the board with matching memory while still keeping the extra 512 kB of slow RAM on that red PCB? Would this be recognized as 1.5 MB working RAM, cause a conflict, or just be seen as 1 MB RAM only?

What's inside an Amiga A500? Good times!
And I think I know why Amiga floppy drives are so expensive lol

Query regarding your hoard of floppy drives - is one of them from an Amiga 3000? 22:46 looks like the 3rd drive down has the 3000 angled button. I'm looking for one of these.... :-)

No, unfortunately i've never owned an official big box Amiga, these are all from desktop ones, the specific one you're looking at came from an Amiga 600, but it seems to be a 3D printed eject button.

    The Super Nintendo 😏
