    Love how at 0:15 the bright orange chunks and fog from the freeze make it look like the pressure is melting it.

      @@popinbens7595 - no nothing was melting. The pressure was causing the plastic middle to break and fly out, which just happened to be orange the same color as molten metal. A cool and unintended visual effect.

    The craziest thing I see in this is watching the condensation dissipate on the frozen parts as heat is made from the intense pressure. You literally watch the heat move up and down the frozen object.

      It’s physics right in front of our eyeballs. The heat is mostly generated from the points where the pressure is applied, compression happens locally, so the heat is generated locally.

      Bearings have tolerances set up in a way that they just slide nicely over each other. There is couple hundreds of a millimetre space between each one.

      It would have to measure short intense peaks, AFAIK not all meters can do that properly.

    It’s really cool to see the difference between brittle and ductile metals here. My favorite is the iron pans at 7:02. the first one is made of cast iron - which is hard but brittle, so it gives lots of resistance at first but then „explodes“. The second one is probably steel, it doesn’t give as much initial resistance but it bends so it holds the resistance for much longer.

    First, I love this guys enthusiasm for answering question I never knew I definitely needed answered. Second, that press is an incredible price or machinery. Third, the physics and energy involved are amazing. Finally, that was quite an outstanding demonstration of the effectiveness of safety glasses (did someone still eat that watermelon?).

    0:32 cool to see the stress lines forming from the center of the faces radiating down to the center and the center lines forming. Then you can see the center fails first and outwards.
    3:08 You can see the heat building up at the ends and radiating towards the center

    In case anyone else was curious about the song playing from 5:14 to about 6:16, it is Han by Gridded. Took me a while to find it, figured I'd save others the work. The part they used in this video starts at around a minute into the song.
