Bob is 97 yrs old as of Feb 20, 2021. He is a brave man. He went thru hell as soon as he hit the battlefield in Italy. Years of rehabilitation and not stopping. I believe him to be one of the few good ones.

The few good ones? The hell does that even mean? One of the few people who, in your subjective, judgemental eyes are "good." A political elite who you've never met and only know him through the media? Please share your rose tinted glasses with everyone. Tell us more about how you think Newt was a good idea.

@@orangejjay always got to be somebody trying to make a political speech thinking they know more then somebody else. You just had to throw your little liberal spiel in all this didn't you? The man served his country in world war II deserved his country in the senate for years as far as I know he never had a big controversy he was an honorable man. Why you want to mess with a man that just died and talk s*** about him? whenever it's very well known he was a good person.

@@trumanupchurch364 "little liberal spiel..."? Pull the carrot out of your ass. I mean, did you read a single word the above commenter wrote? I believe the point they were making is that politicians, celebrities, and other powerful people we experience through media & television give us no actual sense of what they represent except rhetorically, so consumers end up developing "subjective" views that they then want to claim is objectively "the way it is." (Hence, problematic blanket statements about politicians being wholly good or wholly bad). Of course, you can't wait to be triggered by whatever you perceive even to be the *slightest* statement signalling your politics (projecting much??), so you had to replicate exactly what you're whining about: more adversarial political rhetoric that devolves into the same whining and howling, all in the name of peddling your own partisanship. How tiring; people like you, who hate that "everything is political," just can't WAIT to make *everything* political.

@@orangejjay sounds like one of those easily triggered idiots who reads a compliment and decides to deliver what he considers a moral high ground response thinking it'll make him look good, but it only makes him look like a conceited asshole. I read a story a number of years ago: Dole was a Lieutenant with the 10th Mountain Division fighting in the Po Valley in Italy. He was severely wounded. A soldier went forward under fire and dragged him back to safety. Dole was evacuated and spent a year recovering. Fast forward 40 (I think) years and there was a reunion of the 10th Mountain Division where Senator Dole was making a speech. He recounted his tale of being wounded and saved. One of the veterans in the audience suddenly realized that it was he who had, in fact, dragged Dole to safety. The catch? All these years he thought the man's name was "Doyle", and never knew that he was responsible for saving the Senator! I KNOW I read that back when there were newspapers, but I can't prove it now. lol

America is a better place because this man lived. Dave's last words in the Nov, 8 1996 interview was "congratulations on a great life and a great career". He wasn't done. The next 25 years of his life he still contributed a lot, not in elected office, but getting the WWII memorial built and a thousand other things that most Americans didn't hear about.

The demonrat socialist party is one of the most vile and despicable organizations in the nation; its members sick and depraved. Why would any decent human-being want to be "nice" to this grotesquely perverted collection of freaks? Those "RINOS" (Republicans In Name Only) are about as equally disgusting and reprehensible. However, *real* Republicans i.e. those standing for the principles upon which this Constitutional Republic was founded are to be commended and venerated.

How many GOP politicians have a sense of humor these days? On purpose, that is. They are all such mean spirited dullards. This guy was funny. I didn't like his politics, AND he seems like he was a truely good guy, a literal hero (compared to Trump's obscene military history), and he can actually crack a joke. Republicans need to step up their game if we are to take them seriously.

@@ignoramuspotatus7927 that's a bit much, though JFK was also a real hero and the dems should be more like him. You're sort of proving my point here. Nobody wants communism, as it's the flip side of fascism. Only MAGA people talk about commies, and it's delusional. Paying taxes gets the jobs we need done, and the super rich should pay way more. Massively more. The point it, the GOP has no chill or sense of humor. Even the poor ones in the dumb states. Sorry if it stings a bit, but I'm pretty sure this is true.
