I had the distinct pleasure of meeting and hanging out with all four original members of The Standells! Dick Dodd was my neighbor in Huntington Beach, CA and a very good friend! I occasionally chat with Larry Tamblyn who still has the band together! R.I.P. Dick Dodd and Gary Lane! It was an absolute honor to meet and know both of you!
iT WAS'NT UNCOMMON FOR BANDS LIKE THE STANDELLS , WHO WORKED THE STRIP, TO COVER JIMMY REED SONGS. PEOPLE LIKED THE BEAT. BILLY LEE RILEY DID THE SAME THING WHEN HE TOOK OVER FROM JOHNNY RIVERS AT THE WHISKY. I THOUGHT THE STANDELLS' VERSION OF THE JIMMY REED STANDARD , "BIG BOSS MAN", WAS THE DIRECT LINK TO THE CLASSIC "DIRTY WATER" SOUND , BUT , THIS IS PROBABLY CLOSER TO IT.
-A lot of r&b/r&r groups back in the late 50's-early 60's looked something like this. Also if you see the old monster B-movie 'The Horror of Party Beach' 1964 theres the rock group the Del Aires & they sound good just goofin' while playing.
sequentialable12 -Exactly. Garage rock from the early-mid 60's was really the best 60's rock, not that weird psychodelic hippy shit that came out after '66-72.
....is it just me or is a total rip of "High Heeled Sneakers" from Tommy Tucker? The Rolling Stones also covered this classic song and even Jose Feliciano and Little Stevie Wonder

I like the sound of their music it's just something like the real sound of the sixties
I wonder if this was after their gig at 1313 Mockingbird Lane.
The standells were always pretty cool.
I interviewed Larry Tamblyn from The Standells on my radio show tonight. It's on WORT-FM in Madison Wisconsin.

Yes one of the hottest records in the country, so of course it didn't chart.
This song weirdly enough sounds a little bit like their biggest hit song they ever made which was "dirty water".
Great footage. Great band.
early garage music. interesting I can hear Dirty Water in this ( yes same group)

Just over 6 Months They would record the "Dirty Water/Rari" Sessions(March 5, 1965)!
Heck, the "Dirty Water" in this is bloody obvious.
RIP Dick Dodd ...

It's a Jimmy Reed Song
they're lip synching to the version that was on the Live at PJ'S album
Is the pure Pat Boone ?
I can't help think Mick Jagger copied the sound of the lead singer,
high heel sneakers
They sound a little like the animals
work lip syncing ever... lol
