- Deeply rooted cultural practices have continued to deny thousands of girls their education rights.
For hundreds of girls in Kenya early marriage steals their innocence, brings an abrupt end to childhood and a sudden plunge into the responsibilities of adult life. It often condemns them to lives of poverty, ignorance and poor health.
NTV's Rose Wangui traversed 6 counties and reports on how the practice continues to violate the rights of the girl child, curtails her education, and sharply constrains her future.

How sad we have to force kids here in America to go to school... These girls WANT to go to school...
I am just one lucky woman to have gone to school from my Samburu community. I pray that one day, all these cultural practices will end and girls given the opportunity to enjoy the right to education.
Severina Lemachokoti why is the Samburu culture so focus and marriage and having kids they can't afford? These men are too old for these young girls who were these men with before these girls? Such beautiful people.
Yolanda Baldwin It is our culture and it is not a big deal to marry off a child (as much as the constitution of Kenya prohibits it and it is wrong ) . It is very hard to change a culture of the people, but am optimistic that with education now, things are changing and we shall overcome all these harmful practices one day.

I wonder how keen men would be on 'culture' if that culture meant that men could not be married before they were 40 years old, had to remain virgins and then only the day before marriage, they got circumcised ( a proceedure I understand to be very painful as an adult)>
I'm betting that if this was the 'culture' they wouldn't be quite so keen on it. Culture is only lauded when it serves to subjugate females.
For me....I find an educated and enlightened male to be mrore attractive than an uneducated and primitive one.

The sad part is that the government have failed these girls. So shocking that they have a governor, senator and a woman representative who are just loading their pockets and seat their asses at their work. As a young Kenyan woman who got the chance to further her education, I'm heartbroken and wish I could help more. Hope someday I will go back home (Kenya) and help such innocent women in such situations.

This is cruel, evil, barbaric child abuse, why can’t the adults see this? Poor, poverty is not an excuse to torture children in this manner. God in heaven, please save these children, put your Spirit into the heart of men to protect the girls till the come of age, the maybe the won’t mind getting married. Right now I’m sure the hate marriage and men. Even if the do purchase them love and care for them until it is time.
