I have to admit when I saw north and south I didn’t realize these were all UK they series because do US had an epic miniseries back in the 80s north and south about the Civil War that’s what I thought it was

Well, maybe you are right, but, i just can't like it ... They all speak like they are robots... Like the scene he confesses his love for her ... Horrible ... Like if he was forced to say the words ... It's so plastic and unreal... The movie with keyra and mathew is much deep ...but...

@@milan4ever yes, in portuguese, and i know what you mean, this version is the most close and Faithfull to book of all them ... and it's a very good One, but i just don't like it that much...
@@giselamesquita5124 The movie from 2005 is good too, I love Keira Knightley but Matthew Macfadyen as Mr Darcy is totally not my type.
These are my absolute favorites. North and South is #1. I also like all remakes of Pride and Prejudice.
North and South is my favorite! So good! Pride and Prejudice is my second favorite!
Little Dorrit is one of my favorites. Charles Dickens creates such amazing characters and intertwines all of them in a way you don't see coming. Mystery, satire, comedy, and romance mixed in to one.
I think I would hesitate to call it romance despite the romantic elements involved.
If anything it is something of a prototype for Love Actually in many ways.
There is a lot of unrequited love going on, a lot of loving friendships, love betrayed, and loveless marriages.
So much so that when they spring the marriage of Amy Dorrit and Arthur at the end it feels somewhat unearned as if they just dropped the storyline for many episodes while they concentrated on the mystery and murder.
More than anything about Little Dorrit it is pervaded with a sense of tiny islands of goodness floundering in a sea of unendng hopelessness - much like Bleak House.
Pride and Prejudice is to me, the best! Haha.

The Best Ever Version and adaptation made! 1995 - Beautifully and Perfectly done. Magnificent actors with their very high level of excellence in portraying all their roles individually and collaborating as group performance overall is superb!
The soundtrack and costumes were masterly done and magnificent which bring us to the regency era enormously and undeniably the best and great experience and feelings while watching this masterpiece interpretation of the great Ms. Jane Austen literary masterpiece of all time.
Loving it so much and watching repeatedly the whole series almost everyday! Well done to all and hope to find similar story in the near future!

I've just finished watching Belgravia which I really enjoyed.
The American mini series North and South with Patrick Swayze and Lesley Anne Down is still one of my all time favourites.

The North and South that you are talking about is a Civil War miniseries... not the one that is mentioned here, which is a Romance movie called North and South. Both are very good in their own right, though.

Also enjoyed Cranford and Return to Cranford...but they are a bit more slow in pace but still a good watch.

I felt a sigh of relief when I saw what was at number one.the whole time I kept looking for it and then when it was at number one made everything perfect in the last. 😍
Since War and Peace is on here I must add the greatest Dr. ZHIVAGO 1965

I haven't seen the first three but was thrilled to see that second place went to North and South and the Colin Firth Pride and Prejudice.
I have seen all of these period dramas and much more (that are not listed here) and I like them all. But for me North and South will unbelievably remain my favourite. Unbelievable because initially, the title itself was not appealing to me and I didn't expect it to be so good. But after watching the entire series in one go, I couldn't get enough of it and had to watch it again and again.
I just watched Jane Eyre last night- please don't let this trailer deter you! It's really fun- Toby Stephens and Ruth Wilson are great to watch. Also- Dr Thorne is a good short series to add to this list.

Little Dorrit spell bounding, Jane Eyre loved when I was little, North and South i feel in love with, P & P a classic… I am a period romantic movie/serie junky. I love them all!! I wish there was more since I think I seen them all!!

Manish- A lot of research went into the writing of the Outlander series.
Only the first two seasons.. i lost interest on season 3 but i watched it until i gave up in episode 3 season 4

Little Dorrit this production gives you a slice of Dickens as though it was written yesterday - you think you are back there with him. I loved N&S, P&P. W&P puts modern people into period costumes and that is not convincing enough.

I`ve watched every version of Jane Eyre and the 2006 is the only one I deem truly worthy.It would`ve been my number 1,with North and South earning that second place.

Both are valid points. I loved this adaptation, but I would love to watch a full Russian adaptation.

I think they just did what they believed would work better with the resources and actors they already knew. It’s no different then making a modern pride and prejudice, it isn’t as accurate but the meaning behind the story is still valid and understood.
It's high time they made "Wickham's Second Attempt", the Pride and Prejudice spin-off novel, into a movie. We all want to see Mr. Darcy and Mr. Wickham duel!
The series editions mentioned in this recommendation are great.

Stumbled upon a series called Lost in Austen, another version of Pride and Prejudice where a lady swaps places with Elizabeth and goes back into the past. I really enjoyed it, like the lady said, she messes up the whole story and has to fix it according to the book, funny.
