The Commando TL with the strange sounding 2 tones will have been replaced by one of the 4 Dennis F127 TLs in 1988 with the French built CAMIVA Ladder ( a rare type in Britain, anyway) and John Dennis bodywork.
my grandad drove appliances in this era in Hampshire , so this footage makes me smile , he past on 22 years ago , i hope to emulate his service & become a firefighter myself .
A243's always been a busy TL! Some great nostalgic footage with the old appliances and two tones. It's a shame you rarely hear 2tones in London anymore.
a friend of mine used to live opposite Redbridge hill fire station in southampton I loved going round his place as we be guaranteed to c the 2 Dennis appliances flying out of the station regally & sometimes a hydraulic platform awesome stuff
Great video- at 3:53 there is an awesome Shelvoke and Drewy - a real rare spot:-)) Back in the Seventies I had an awesome Fire Engine spotters book that listed all the stations in the South and was shown round loads by the friendly crews- mostly HCB Angus Bedfords which were iconic at the time. I blame an obsession with Trumpton!!!
Ah! Trumpton......yes i remember that well! My mate was the LFB enthusiats, i used to go around with him to film, he used to chat to the crews at various stations. Sometimes they would bring a particular appliance out for us to film...he even blagged his way in to Lambeth and Ruislip workshops!.....
Rare at the time, yes, but as it stands, 5 of the LFB's 48 Shelvoke and Drewry pumps survive in preservation whilst just 2 of it's 108 Dennis SS's do so.
Oh yeah I love Shelvoke Pumps and Pump ladders! In London’s Burning from the pilot movie 1986 and to the end of season 2 1989 Shelvoke pumps were used in the series! Until Dennis SS replaced them both!
@@benwisely5962 They were actually Dennis RS appliances, bought from South Yorkshire. Yes it's odd, as the LFB never actually used RSs and even their SSs looked a bit different with the single headlights.
It’s my cousin the Dennis fire engine that looks similar to me and it’s the same type but on my ladder I have the big weals and 2 siren lights on front of me

Got in to defence fire and rescue @@SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus 😃
@@SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus i've been in just under a year now , defence fire & rescue
Awesome. I used to love those Dennis fire engines when I was a kid.

SO 🏃♀️
Nice Catches of the Old LFB appliances mate!
Brilliant love the two tones takes me back a few years
And back to when the brigade actually owned its' appliances unlike today where its all leased....
Love the Two Tone Air Horns music.
No messing in them Day's. Siren 🚨 straight out into the Road.
Another great video love them old sirens and the old Dennis engines

Soho was a busy station, you normally didn't have long to wait to see some action......
I walked past once just as they were turning out full house awesome stuff
Good to see the lockers open on return, hope nothing fell out!!
Too much of a rush to get back for a cuppa perhaps?.....
3:52 a late 70s to early 80s Shelvoke Pump responding!
I heard they made the switch to the Dennis SS due to the Shelvokes being extremely thirsty. Is that true? If so that makes me love them even more!

Thanks for the foley siren sounds.
0:11 Malaysia fire and rescue and Singapore Civil Defense Force use this siren too. In fact they use British sirens too!
Interesting to know......
Great video mate 👍🏻🧑🏻🚒
Those Whelen Strobe beacons where very popular in the 80’s….
These appliances were probably in attendance at the kings cross job, SO townsley probably tone one of those appliances for the last time, RIP
For the dodge turntable ladder the two tone siren doesn’t sound right to me
An identical dodge TL to the first would be used up until 2009 as a reserve and 2008 frontline at old kent road
Yes, that's right. Footage of it can be seen here:

3:52 _London's Burning_ pilot to series 2, anyone?
Think the Dennis SS driver forgot his vehicle checks. Only one headlamp 0:46
Nice video, have you got any footage of the dodge appliances turning out?
I will have to check through the films i have....
@@SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus alright mate
Has he got a cold? His Two Tones are a little off :)
0:1:20 - looks like a nice Rover SD1. They must've been getting paid too much back in the 80s
Probably the Station Offices car......
When did they replace that dodge ladder for a dennis and the pump for a volvo
Appliances get swapped around between stations on a regular basis......
Do you know which Shelvoke that was seen at the end of the clip? I'm guessing it was a reserve.
I have no idea, my mate was the LFB enthusiast, i had a camera! He got me chasing about all over London to film them....i'm glad he did now!
@@SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus Ah well it's a very nice catch either way. Doesn't seem to be a lot of footage of London's SD pumps about.
@@SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus have you got any footage Essex appliances turning out would be good to see them
SO 📙
Anybody notice at 1:08 the near side locker above the wheel is slightly open
How long have you lived?
54 years in......

Shocking lack of lighting in them days like
