    Thank you for all of these tips!! I have been riding for 7 years and am doing hunters but this spring I am going to start learning cross country! My pony is green, so I will be getting a lot of help from my aunt/trainer!

      Ensure you do lots of two point to improve your balance and strength into your lower leg and keep your chin up to keep balanced and good luck, hope you have a great competition this time

    I have gone a really long time being scared of xc due to a fall on a coffin (a ditch) where my pony slipped on some slightly wet wood and fell in, and I came off too. A few weeks ago I had a lesson in the XC at my yard with my instructor, who knew about the fall and stayed away from that corner of the XC (thank god LOL) she jumped really well and I got all my confidence back. Cue the next week where we go out again. This time a group lesson goes out on a hack whilst we are jumping, and she gets a lil excited so we calm her down, and wait until the hack is trotting down road to start jumping again. Unfortunately, she gets VERY excited and decides she wants to go with them, so she bolts. I managed to get her under control and bring her back to a halt very quickly due to a circle, and I start to walk her back down to my mum and trainer again, and she takes off once more, this time going much faster and longer. I lost my stirrup after a sharp turn and stop before her running off again but I stayed on lol. My instructor eventually caught her and I dismounted, we then brought her back to the arena to do some showjumping to finish the session. We haven't gone out since due to bad weather and the ground turning to mud, but I'm hoping to get out soon so I can do some xc schooling in another yard or a hunter trials during the summer, as I plan to event with her.
    She's only 4, I'm 13 and riding a year and a half, she's done nothing with me so far apart from that, I was well due a fright LOL. I can't wait to go xc again and jump my favourite jumps, I hope my instructor keeps rm a bit low next time though, as we had started to jump a few bigger ones the day she bolted 🤣🤣
    We got done nice photos out of it tho.

      @@KirstinKellyEquestrian it was XD, unfortunately I can't ride my lesson tmr bcs I'm getting teeth taken out, but in a few weeks the weather might clear up and I can school her a bit more 😂 me and my 13.2 cob won't win the Olympics by just putting it off!!

    I'm going XC for the first time with my mare tomorrow! We've played over a couple of homemade fences at home! I'm so nervous, but this video has helped put me at ease :)

      @@KirstinKellyEquestrian It went brilliantly! Thank you for asking :) She's a little speedy (Ex racer!) but jumped beautifully and we even tackled a jump of 90cm that is usually WAY out of my comfort zone!

    hi! what are some tips to help prevent run outs as my pony loves to speed right before the jump and always runs out.

    How do you read a corse. Like what jumps do you take do you choose yourself or is it a set course

    • @KirstinKellyEquestrian
      @KirstinKellyEquestrian  2 роки тому

      At the beginning of the course there will be a course plan with a map and list of the jumps.

    i have a horse that spooks quit a bit. how do i get him used to cross country jumps.

    • @KirstinKellyEquestrian

      Start small, introduce him to natural logs, small banks first . Every time you ask a harder question back it up with another easy logs each time too
