Marvin Bracy - High School National Record 6.08 55 Meters - Jimmy Carnes 1-29-2012 - with SlowMo

  • Marvin Bracy sets a new high school national record with a 6.08 second 55 meter run at the Jimmy Carnes indoor track and field meet held at the Stephen C. O'Connell Center in Gainesville, FL. The meet was hosted by University of Florida and held on 01-29-2012.
    At first I thought he had false started while I was filming this and just wasn't called on it with the jump he got on the field. After replaying my video at the meet in slow mo and frame by frame it can clearly be seen that Bracy begins to move the 3rd frame after the puff of smoke from the gun. Since my camera shoots at 30 frames a second, I would estimate around a .1 reaction(or anticipation) to the gun.
    Upon further examination of the video in my editor I can see that the gun sound hit the camera mic about 5.5 frames after the first flash of the gun, which means that I was sitting about 63 meters away from the gun. Sorry if the video is a little shaky. I hand held the camera.
    This is my second attempt to upload this video. The first had audio that was not in sync. This version not only has the correct synced up audio, but I also created a full run slow mo where you can clearly see the puff of smoke and then Marvin begin to move afterward.
    Check out this video for a frame by frame comparison: • Marvin Bracy 55 Record...

    Visual Information comes quicker than sound. As we can see, the gun's smoke appears before he starts. Either he was right on the edge of a false start and timed it perfectly accidentally or it was a false start but no one stopped the race. That reaction kinda looks quicker than 10ms.

    False start. If there was motion sensors on the blocks then it would have recognized his false start. The human mind can't register the sound in under 0.10 seconds so if you start within 0.10 seconds of the gun (which he did) its a false start

    • @jakeblack4988
      @jakeblack4988 9 років тому +10

      Jumping the gun would be jumping the gun. A false start is when you go before the gun henceforth he did not false start and the motion sensors would not have detected a false start.

    • @NevilleG123
      @NevilleG123 9 років тому +4

      Not true. Its been physically proven that that the human body can react in under .1 seconds, and its also bf teen proven that there is virtually not limit to how fast the human body can react. Not to mention that human reaction period has nothing to do with the mind, when the mind is entered into the equation then what your doing there is acting, not "re"acting. When the body reacts naturally and without volition the signal to move the body that would normally travel from the neurons in the brain to the part of the body being moved, is instead given directly from the neurons on the spinal cord instead of the brain, bypassing that component of the central nervous system completely, and thus allowing the possibility to act even as quickly as .01 seconds.

      Jake Black you're wrong still, block have motion sensors which detect the time of reaction, if it is under 0.2/0.1 (one of them) then it's a false start, although I think the body could react before that but that's just sprinting rules

If there was electric sensing though, it would of said he false started since a humans reaction time is 0.100 seconds after the gun goes off.He moved at about 0.06 seconds. rofl. that was a false start..by miles.. you've lost your mind if you think that olympians react that much faster to the gun than high school and college athletes. they all react between 0.10 and around 0.20 for the slowest reactions at elite level. most are between 0.12 and 0.17. bracy was at least 0.1 out before the rest...id mbe surprised if this record was ratified.

      RULE 162 from IAAF handbook says that someone makes a false start when the starting blocks register a response time less than 100 ms. (1/10th of a sec). My camera shot this video at 30 frames per sec. I slowed the video down and after the smoke shows up out of the gun there are 3 frames of nonmovement in the blocks. 3/30 is 1/10th which is 100 ms...the olympic standard for best case reaction time. I still believe he guessed this start but it was about the best guess you could possibly have and still be legal at the pro level.

      @@Invocent stop lying. he starts to nudge on the same frame as the smoke. if you genuinly believe that that is 100ms reaction time, then everyone else in the race has like a 400ms reaction time

      He did not move the frame the gun went off. You can see everyone tense up the frame after the gun went off. Bracy begins to move the 3rd frame. And just so you can see the reaction time of everyone else in the race I went out to frame 7, 200 ms after the smoke. Everyone but Bracy still sitting in the blocks. This was a preseason indoor meet with a bunch of highschoolers and one serious athlete who is still on the world stage. The guy next to him in lane 4 had barely moved his head nearly 1/4 second later. Yes they had terrible reaction times.

    marvin bracy could break world records, but if you have a choice of breaking world records and making 15 million a year playing football, which are you gonna choose? who wouldn't choose football? its the funnest sport in the world.

    dude you need to re-look at your analysis. the reaction isnt when u see him move..the reaction is when he pushes back to the blocks. you can try to justify this as much as you like, but blind freddy can see this is a false start. no one beats a field of athletes out like this..no one. the only other possible scenario is that every other athlete reacted very slowly...which is also virtually impossible.
