I like how they are proper block attachable on all sides now. Previously only one face could be attached, and in case platform it was attached to got destroyed, you got yourself a massive angry ball inside ur ship.
I'm hoping for a proper warp effect, or maybe even an alternative to the jump drive that lets us just go to warp, with the jump drive tier or additional components allowing for higher warp speeds, giving us the ability to travel great distances but not instantly so we can have moments of just doing stuff on the ship while travelling from planet to planet or station to station.
I love the animation, but I think it would be great if it spun realistically according to the control inputs and when stabilizing a spinning ship. Or maybe have a more relaxed animation when idle and spin faster when it needs to do work?
If SE2 had not just ships, boats and rovers but also mechs that can be put to use then that would be like really cool. Imagine a planet were everything is so dangerous you need a special suit like a mech to go outside to do some welding, exploration or mining.
I am looking to get into 3D art myself, so I have immense respect for getting spherical objects looking that good in a game engine! The details under the glass looking caps look great too.
Basically the regular gyroscope will be the prototech gyroscope from space engineers. 1. Anim that aren't in the base game because the blocks were already out and they decided not to revamp older blocks with new animation
Besides the splendid animation, I also appreciate it being a full box instead of having only 1 side that can be attached to other blocks. Much more convenient for building.
I know! I posted on an earlier video that they made a gorgeous gimbal, but it's *not* a gyro. That's *not* how gyros work. If your gyro was moving like that, your ship would be dancing like the Gunstar in The Last Starfighter after the Death Blossom was triggered! At least it looks nice.
I know, right?! Even the fixed one would correspond to pitch, yaw, or roll depending on what orientation the player places it in. I can forgive gimbals instead of gyros as an artistic thing even tho you could easily have a block with 3 gyros to give 3-axis control, but this is just rubbing their ignorance in our faces. Atleast with the SE1 hydrogen engine I can headcannon it as a crude fusion reactor ala General Fusion's piston-compression design(tho that's spherical) instead of blatantly violating thermodynamics with a hydrogen combustion engine that generates more power turning hydrogen into water than it takes to crack that hydrogen out of water.
What kind of NPCs will you make? as simple merchants in simple stations, or will you specifically make NPC factions, ships, stations, and relationships?
I hope the gyros will make us able to fine-tune sensitivity per each axis so that roll can have the same sensitivity as pitch/yaw, making planes much easier to bank. Also having power draw based on current gyro usage and strength would be nice.
Love the animation. Would there be a way of locking the rotation of the sphere inside the gyro so that the axes move around it in reference to the ship orientation? The Sphere could be locked to the game's world grid?
Pitch, yaw, and roll are relative to the orientation of the craft. Writing them on the gyroscope like that just tells everyone that Keen has no idea what those very basic flight terms mean.
It definitely looks nice, and I appreciate that it's now a box instead of SE1's equivalent, but I have concerns about performance with that constant animation going on. As long as I can turn off the animation in the Graphical Options if my computer/server can't handle it, I'm cool.
It's funny how they've been called gyroscopes for all this time when they're actually gyrostats. Also, yeah. Don't have them meaninglessly spinning Keen. Have the spinning correspond to rotational input.
Looks nice, but what about optimization? Several pieces will reduce fps. Maybe you shouldn't make rotation animation for gyroscopes that won't be visible, for example in the bowels of a ship.
I'm really looking forward to watching this masterpiece in action, which brings me to ask, what time does the game come online on the 27th. Is it going to be during the live stream, or before?
Is there any plan to make usable blocks scalable so I can build one big thruster instead of several hundred of your large ones for things like capital ships? Would also love to see pistons have a base, and then we can just keep adding the cylinder parts and it keeps it as one piston
I don't think gyros are supposed to spin endlessly. Would be much cooler if it spun in conjunction with the orientation of the grid. Especially with a gravity generator on board.

I'm strangely disappointed that it comes in 3 sizes. I was hoping the unified grid system would include dynamically scalable gyros and thrusters. It looks awesome, that's for sure.
I don't think they confirmed anything on this, but don't expect thrusters to be able to apply angular force, expect a long rod with thrusters only on one side to move uniformly
I love how the engineer keeps watching the spinning gyro. He is one of us.

Would be nice if instead of randomly spinning the central part would keep its orientation in space while the ship rotates around it, like a real gyro.
yes.
This. Yes please. Like an actual gyro.
Spinning randomly makes no sense, it looks cool but it would be way better if it actually spun properly

I hope, to all that is good in this world, that they made it 10x more powerful. The base gyro required so much gyro spam in SE1
It would be cool to have an option for the animation to match ship movement, like keeping the flywheel ball stable.
But why not make the movement depending on the roll its creating?

It bothers me that the gimbal rings are labelled with ship axes, as if that's how they work. Only the outer ring has a fixed axis of effect.
