    I chose the 2024 Honda ATAS because 1) DCT, 2) Reliability, 3)19” front tire, 4)Good at doing it all. I have a 21 Goldwing Tour DCT Airbag that I tour all over the US. I LOVE the DCT auto for long distance and DCT in manual sport mode for the twisties. The ATAS will be my touring bike in South America where the roads are not good enough for the Goldwing.

    Very useful information. I have a 2017 Africa twin that is an amazing machine. But I definitely like the slightly lower seat on the new one. We don’t have any dealers in this area that have any in stock to ride, which is hassle.

    The base AT color schemes push me toward the ATAS.
    The base last looked good in 2017 with its tri color red white and blue with the gold forks, gold wheels and gold bars. I’m just tired of red and black lol.

    Just took a test drive on the AT last weekend. My God, what a bike! I'll be going for the base model, with DCT and without electronic suspension as i plan to get to the most inaccessible places i can manage to get to in Europe over the next few years and the least amount of tech that can go wrong, the better. Can't wait until spring next year to pick it up. 😊

    I have both bikes. The ‘21 ATASESDCT and ‘23 300 Rally. I choose the AT as my LD bike due to 6.5 gal tank, tubeless tire and DCT. The cornering lights was bonus. The Rally is my local, back road exploring, commuting, do it all within 200 miles bike. I ride the Rally more days out of the month but I put more miles on the AT. Would I tread my ‘21 for a ‘24 with a 19 front? Only if I total my ‘21. 🤣

    Just bought one. I also have a 2017 AT "base" model. I had a bit of confusion, having not followed the newest of the new when I heard the AT AS was more road worthy. I'm planning a midwest to AK trip next summer. I think the AT AS is perfect.

    That was a nice talk, coach! Right now, I'm torn between just buying a TransAlp or an AT. Your POV matches mine: I think the 2024 AT DCT really makes the most sense for my 90% riding. The TransAlp, though, is so much lighter. I'll have to sit on an AT and see whether I'd be able to handle it. I'm 6'2" and in good, strong shape. So it should be OK.... Thanks for the inspiration!

    An interesting comparison would be to compare the Honda CRF1000L (late 2015 and early 2016) against the 2024 offering. Depending on the performance indicators, I’d suggest while the incremental developments are noticeable, the earliest models have withstood the test of time. I’ve been itching to trade up my fully farkled ‘18 AF DCT but I’ve got to ask: Is the juice still really worth the squeeze?

      I’ll be getting the AT DCT when I retire in 1 year and will be selling my GS. I am 5’7” , 150 pounds, and love the 19” tire and don’t need the 21”. I do ride off road, but I’m not boulder jumping at 67, and like you, most of my riding is on road touring and in twisties, etc. The AT, with its tubeless spoked wheels allow me to do more off road whereas the Triumph Tiger 900 GT and the BMWf800gs both have cast wheels which limits the off road some. So the AT to me is the true all purpose bike. And BTW, I have Michelin Anakee Adventures and love these tires on my GS, so I’ll be getting these for my AT.

      @@raphymartinez I never plan to buy bike with the automatic gearbox,so when I was trying to decide between the Tiger or Africa Twin I was always thought that I will go for the manual gearbox, but when I went to dealer to try Honda they offered me test ride both Africa twin one with manual gearbox and second one with DCT, and I have to tell you the automatic gearbox shocked me how good it was during that test ride. It doesit does everything if not better than any manual gearbox. You also have the shift pads that anytime you can override the gear and change it yourself if you want, if that’s not enough you can turn automatic gearbox in manual mode so you can use it as a manual gearbox shifting with the pads and if that’s not enough for you, you can always buy food shifter for the food changing gears and use it as a normal manual gearbox. The DCT on 2024 Africa Twin change the gears exactly as I would change them so the gearbox isspot-on., at least for me. I’m delighted that I went for the DCT gearbox over manual.

Difference in price in pounds pulled from Hondas uk site is 13200 for the base and 14700 for the base with ES. 1500 pounds difference. That’s equivalent to 1920 USD. But that’s not really an accurate price translation because the price in pounds is 13200 for the base(16,898 is usd) but the base in the states is 14800.

    I just got the same bike today, but I noticed a significant issue with the handlebar vibrating excessively. I've never experienced this with my previous bike. At first, I thought it might be due to the wind hitting the windshield, but even when I'm sitting still in neutral, the vibration persists to the point where the mirror visibly shakes. Are you experiencing the same issue with your bike? I suspect the dealership might have messed up while installing some OEM parts for me.

  • @Sunrazor
    @Sunrazor 3 місяці тому +2

    People use adventure bikes as tourers mostly. The occational gravel road? Any bike will do that. The point is that a sports tourer is a much better road bike than the AT. Even if you choose a taller bike like the Suzuki GX1000 or the Tracer 9, you will be happier with a road bike. Will you do gravel maybe 50% of the time? Sure, get the AT. It will serve you well. But think about it... Have owned several adventure bikes just to be disappointed in road performance. Chucking them about on a twisty road is just not the same. To really see the difference go testride an MT09. Just for reference... and should you want to ride gravel after buing one, slap a couple of MT60rs tyres and a radiator cover on it, and the MT09 will run gravel like a champ. Fire roads? No. There you need the AT. But I bet you will never try it even if you had an AT...
    So before you go spend that amount of money on a swiss army knife, perhaps you just need one or two of the tools it has? Then you are better served elsewhere.

    The real question is; How are regular and yearly maintenance costs on this thing and also how's reliability in comparison to other Hondas? What I'm really asking is, is this bike a money pit like all the other big liter adventure bikes or is it like a typical Honda?! I'm asking because I'm thinking of upgrading to Africa Twin, coming from a Transalp owner, I've owned a Transalp for years now and that thing barely costs me anything, I think I make around 10,000 kilometers a year and I spend less than $400 A YEAR on maintenance, tires, etc... - plus, I've NEVER had to fix anything for years now and even if I do, it's usually very cheap to replace because it's a Honda... So... Is Africa Twin the same or is it a money pit scam?!

I'm not sure how they actually work as they seem to turn themselves off at times when you are sitting at a light or when you are coming to a slow to make a turn. I just get into the habit of cycling the turns again to ensure they stay on. After the turn they will stay on for a few flashes.
