  • Seems like quite a few people got filtered by Lucky Seven for some reason, so here's a short explanation of the whole "Sword of Origin/Sword of the End" thing, how it is connected to Lucky Seven and why Riku talks about it the way he does in Chapter 5. Lore analysis

I love that despite it all, the game doesn't draw the line at "Moebius bad" and portray their ideas as completely evil just because they're the bad guys. Noah and Mio at the very end acknowledge that wanting to protect the present is a perfectly natural feeling, but what is truly against the game's themes is letting your 'present' get in the way of the future.

I mean… they *are* kind of portrayed as ‘moebius bad’ for most of the game. The turnaround with N and Z feels rather sudden and unearned with villains that literally treat them like toys and livestock. Yes, wanting to protect the present is a natural feeling, but I don’t see how their way of messing with the heroes at every step gets turned around into an understanding forgiveness for all that in the very last chapter only. The moebius ARE bad, but their reason for doing terrible things was not completely ludicrous.

@@skyhighlander6447 Well, their concept of life or death was kinda GANKED as mess because well to be fair, people would legit die then be reborn. They built what they thought was an infinite world. So death probably just doesn’t register all that much to them. It’s kinda like if your friends mom died but you see her at several different periods of your life. At some point she may die and you’d just laugh like “dang that’s how you went out this time”. Let’s say your friend seen her and found out she was alive but then of course she died in front you. Your reaction is to laugh maybe because you know she comes back but your friend goes absolutely BERSERK at you because he just found out his mom was alive but now she dies in front of him AGAIN. You both aren’t wrong, your friend simply doesn’t know why her death doesn’t matter that much. I’m just providing some perspective

@@hartfantom Fair enough… now that you bring that up, I would’ve liked if the heroes’ side had something to say on all their friends just coming back here and there out of nowhere. They go on and on about how their lives matter but once they find out about the rebirth and Mio is safe, they kind of seem to forget and suddenly start babbling about seizing the future and none of the ‘life’ stuff anymore, despite for example Miyabi’s return from the ‘dead’. Maybe they grow numb to death too, who knows.
Either way, doesn’t make Moebius any less obviously evil with how they oppress these people as livestock just for fun. They’re playing god all that time, treating it as a game, instead of putting any emphasis on ‘protecting the now’. It felt more like ‘protecting the status quo, keeping ourselves as absolute power’. N is the only consul that seemed set on the ‘endless now’ because of not wanting to lose M. Maybe some sidequests go into it, but them missing a concept of death doesn’t automatically lead to comical evilness. In that sense, moebius is pretty bad, I think only Consul N and the weird metaphysical nature of Z are less black and white in how the themes were handled.

I actually really like the way lucky seven functions in the story. While there is undoubtedly some symbolism I'm skipping over, I appreciate that the sword is just that, a sword. Yes, it's a sword that can cancel out, and sometimes even overpower the influence of moebius, but it functions mostly as a way for the gang to even the scales. The most important part of Lucky Seven is Noah. His desire to seek out a better future, even when presented with a nightmarish scenario and grief, is what allows him to use Lucky Seven to it's fullest. The sword is only as powerful as Noah's will. This is reinforced in both gameplay and writing. After drawing the true Lucky Seven, Noah is able to counter the powers of Moebius, i.e. when he and Mio resist X's attempt to nullify their interlink. Additionally, in gameplay Noah gains access to new, powerful talent arts. I really like this aspect of the game. I would like to learn about different symbolic elements regarding lucky seven.

Not sure if anyone else has noticed but Noah’s arts when he unleashed Lucky Seven are based off Jin’s from Xenoblade 2 and Torna! You can even see Jin’s art naming scheme in N’s as well (i.e: Quantum and Empty Moment). The coolest case of this is that the talent art for Lucky Seven is Final Lucky Seven, which is a Smash combo art, same as Jin’s Heavenly Disrupt! Great way of exemplifing how similar these 3 characters are not just through the story but gameplay intergration as well!

One of my gripes with the game was the Sword of Origin introduction because the other two Xenoblade games were quite explicit and well-reasoned when a sword powered up whereas the Sword of Origin kind of just appears. I think this video helps clarify things a bit more so I appreciate it.
I'm still not sure how I feel about it though as sometimes in media things should be made explicit and clear but that's just my opinion. Regardless, Noah's Sword is probably my favourite out of the 3 red swords and seeing him pull out Lucky Seven in cutscenes or gameplay makes me so hype.

I’d say it’s because logically, the sword has no reason to power up at all. If it was ‘just a sword’ then Noah wouldn’t suddenly be pulling it out of his chest in ouroboros form and wrecking shit when the sword is still just the same. They mostly went with symbolism over any sort of logic here, Noah learning to let go now allowing him to draw the true sword of the metaphor because it fits nicely with the theme they were going for: letting go and moving on versus living in the endless now. That’s why there’s no straight-up explanation: they don’t really seem to have one. Correct me if I’m wrong though, but this video gives an answer to the symbolism but not any actual logic that should allow the sword to function in a new way if it’s indeed ‘just a very sharp sword that really doesn’t magically react to plot moments’.

@@selfefan1 there’s a difference between spoon feeding and explaining. Regardless of if you understood it or not the large majority were confused as to the nature of lucky seven and the sword of the end. Both these swords make sense when given time to think about them, but if the game gave more time to explain it I do think it would be good. It wouldn’t be so bad that it’s toddler levels but some big extrapolating of the narrative has to be made to truly understand the concept of these swords and that’s when a in game explanation is necessary I think.

I have this crazy idea that truthfully is likely fueled by a desire of mine and someone might be able to shoot it down, my desire being that for the third and final game of the trilogy which is supposed to end the Klaus experiment story, a trilogy where there are three major beings with two of them being a major source of power the protagonists need to learn and grow to understand and be capable of wielding the power of, that the third and final game would feature the final being in a similar role.
The Lucky Seven is tied to Logos, it is to Logos as the blade rex yields is to Pneuma and the monando is to Ontos. As we know, in Alrest Logos was awakened as Malos and Pneuma as Mythra, Malos was awaken by Amalathus which leads to a chain of events that leads to him becoming an antagonist who needs to be stopped, but things could've gone differently had he been awaken by someone else with Klaus and Rex saying something along those lines in the final parts of xenoblade 2, he wasn't destined to become what he did it was the circumstances he was in that led to his personality.
What if xenoblade 3, even if we don't truly know it, Logos has been brought back in some way and his power is what makes the Lucky Seven so powerful? Logo's power is to destroy which is what Noah uses a number of times in the story to destroy things no other weapons could like the flame clocks, sure origin metal is strong and thats why it was used to make Lucky seven but we can upgrade the other party members weapons using origin metal to make them stronger but I don't think we get any implications that those weapons can become anywhere near as strong as the Lucky seven.
This then runs into the issue that Malos died at the end of Xenoblade 2. However, when Malos died he didnt simply poof away, many purple (the color he appears to be associated with and matches his core crystal's color) particles were floating around in the air like his physical presence was still lingering in the world in some way. Xenoblade 2 also showed us an important detail which was when the present day torna group kidnapped Pyra. Malos kidnapped Pyra because he had become greatly damaged in his battle with Mythra and he ended up using the data stored in her core crystal to repair himself back to his full capabilities. As the processors used with the conduit Ontos, Pneuma, and Logos contain extensive data like this and Pneuma being in the xenoblade 2 universe had the data necessary to repair Malos. But with the communications and increasing proximity of the two universes we have an interesting setup- Alvis. Coming from the xenoblade 1 universe, his connection seems to have been maybe not entirely but mostly cut off from the universe in xenoblade 2 at some point before Pneuma and Logos were awakened, which means Alvis has not stored data on Malos. Instead Alvis would have recoverable data on an earlier version of Logos that had not been through and became what Malos did. Alvis just didn't have the a physical presence to use that data on since Logos was physically in the xenoblade 2 universe.
The people from xenoblade 2 and Pyra/Mythra would likely be hesitant to potentially bring back the being that could become something like Malos again so why? If we consider the processors power and what use they would provide we can find an answer- Ontos can essentially run and use programs, Pneuma can create new programs and processes when necessary, and Logos can delete programs and processes when they're no longer useful or if they're malicious. Origin seems to be really powerful like a sort of artificial conduit, it could be possible that in order to run and utilize this incredible machine the Nia and Melia are supported by Pyra/Mythra and Alvis respectively. As the processors of the original conduit they would be capable of preforming this important task and would likely be trusted by their respective worlds, but this time they're running this processor without Logos. In xenoblade 3 we learn that peoples fears and doubts about the whole thing going on within origin were what caused the creation of Z and the moebius and that they took over the origin- because this is what happens when you remove the process responsible for deleting harmful programs from the operation. The people likely felt a lot of different emotions including non-harmful ones like hope and comfort in friends and family but they also naturally had fear but fear is a really strong emotion and if that runs through the machine a few times without anything removing it over time then it could build up with neither Ontos or Pneuma able to stop it. At some point, either before or at the start of Aionios, Alvis and Pyra/Mythra recognize the issue and communicate this in some way with the queens with the plan to use the data from Alvis' core crystal and whatever is left of Logo's physical being within 2's universe to bring Logos back to life but hopefully not hell bent on destroying everything like he was as Malos.
To make this plan work they need some sword to tie Logo's being to and origin metal is a strong material seemingly the closest thing to whatever was used to make the processors to begin with and a few talented Nopon are entrusted with this by the queens. Before they can succeed Melia is captured and Nia's access to the powers of Origin become very limited so we get stuck in the endless now but the other two Aegises already gave what they needed to the nopon leading to a long process of finishing Lucky seven the long cycle of events that take place in xenoblade 3.
Not sure how exactly this fits or where to put it but as an extra note, all three protagonists notably wield a red sword associated to a processor- shulk wields the monando, Rex when he wields Pyra's sword, and Noah wielding his blade. This is a common theme but isn't too important, what is important though is that the three processors have a color associated with them specifically their core crystals and our protagonists wield a version of their weapons that match their processor's color in some manner- Shulk is straight forward with Ontos having a red core crystal and the monando being red, pneuma is a little bit different since we have multiple versions of her weapons but notably her green core crystal fits in with Mythra's blade, IF Ontos is in some way then it could help explain something why the hell was N's weapon purple covered even before he became Moebius? Design wise it would be odd to just give him this before he became Moebius since it makes his sword very evil looking, but if it has something to do with Logos, whose associated color is also purple, then this could help provide some kind of explanation.
Ultimately imagine this, the trilogy finally ends off with the dlc, we finally see the full result of Klaus experiment and the worlds that come of it by finally bringing peace to the worlds after so much struggle and hardships. The very direct and physical representation of this with a scene of the three (or four with pyra) aegis siblings finally- after the space-time transition event that took away Ontos, the long struggle between Mythra and Malos that ended with what was the death of Logos, and the painful Neverending now of Aionios where Logos is essentially newly born to join in the struggle to free the worlds of his siblings, finally these siblings are now all back together standing before one another. I think this would be a wonderful visual representation of this long and incredible story coming to an end.

I like to think of it as XC3'S version of the Monado III, something that only very few that possess the ability can gain through the manifestation of their goals and motifs, but that remains permanently within the world as a solid object once it has been created. Riku might have gotten it from a previous incarnation of Noah that left his behind after failing to bring N down, since we see in one of the flashbacks that one of the swords drops to the ground when the Noah carrying it dies.

I was thinking that the sword that N carries is Z's monado, making him his driver, while the one Noah has is the monado of the entity that wants to move forward (the true Uroboros as Z is a true Moebious). I think that entity would be Riku, a nopon, allowing him to live outside of the clock system while still being part of the army, and that would be why he was there to give Noah the sword and why he knows so much and kind of keeps pushing him forward. That could explain why he knows Melia too.
Melia says that there are countless lives still inside origin that want to move forward, maybe they created another "god" in Aionios, or maybe they kinda are the reason for Noah, Mio and friends to still exist.
The only reason for the two swords to look the same, and kinda have the shape of a monado, that I can think of, is that they come from Origin, like being the same one sword but split in two, one for Moebious and one for Ouroboros, but originally meant to be just One monado from Origin. That's why there is no sword after defeating N, and why Noah got the Moebious inside of him too, transforming his Ouroboros Iris into a Ying Yang. I mean, like the theme of this is the duality of a person staying in the now and always moving forward. Ouroboros and Moebious come from the same place, and can go back to the same person. Both entities came from Origin, or from the people, and took the original monado to make two versions of it, being the sheaths what show the differences because they are at it's core the same monado.
IDK, I hope this makes any sense

    • @KaroxNightshade
      @KaroxNightshade 2 роки тому +1

      A. Since when do Monados equal drivers? Pretty sure Zanza wasn't a Blade.
      B. Noah's Blade isn't the anti-Moebius being's in any way
      C. The closest thing to what you're talking about would be the Black Fog/Fog King, as its purpose is to remove outside influences on worlds. It causes Annihilations by removing Aionios' stopped time, so the material gets obliterated from the worlds' fusion, as well as it gathering near and attacking Moebius, as they are not of the world.
      D. The half-Ouroboros half-Moebius eye is related to the infinity symbol, not Yin and Yang.
      E. Nopon are still tied to their flame clocks, just can't accept Irises. The Nopon caravan is unaffiliated entirely, so they get around it all.
      F. Noah and N's Blades are the red bit (or whatever you'd call N's equivalent) and Lucky Seven/Sword of the End aren't the Monado-esque bits (unless you consider any sword with a circle in it to be Monado-esque which kinda excludes Pyra's Blade weapon). The sheath is the red sword with the blue ether forming the edge, with a circular bit in the center just above the hilt.
      G. Ouroboros are manufactured using Origin metal and Ether, Moebius draw power from Z who draws power from the Collective Unconscious. That'd be like saying Crys has an Ouroboros counterpart somewhere in the world, but that's not true since all 6 slots are taken by the party. Besides, Lanz and Taion and the others have no Moebius counterparts, it's not like they were split like Noah and Mio.
      H. Origin isn't like Zanza or an Aegis, it's a giant construct to hold lives. Nothing in it would manifest a Monado or anything like it. In fact, the only reason there's Origin metal scattered about is because Origin is a little broken from Z. Lucky Seven was constructed by someone who was probably Shulk or a pupil (or pupils, maybe the ones who originally had the Ultimate Hammers were his/Tora's pupils) using Origin metal.
Sorry, most of this is plain wrong. I don't mean to be rude, but almost everything here is just incorrect. If you want to refute my claims, I've laid them out in a list for you to debunk step-by-step (though what I said is correct). I love your theory crafting, but a lot of it is based on misconceptions around how the Monado, Blades, and Ouroboros work.

    • @ivanaviNiebla
      @ivanaviNiebla 2 роки тому +3

@@KaroxNightshade A. The red monado in XC1 wasn't Zanza's It was Alvis', Zanza and Shulk were his Drivers. Alvis has the core cristal Mythra and Malos have, meaning he was a blade (although a god like one in that universe).
      B. Why couldn't it be?
      C. The black fog is the result of the worlds/universes colliding in slow motion, it is what starts happening to matter from Bionis and Alrest universes as they interact. The annihilation event is when the worlds actually collide and matter disappears.
I don't think the Fog King was supposed to be as connected to the black fog, given that it had shape and was able to possess creatures.
      D. The Moebious simbol is the Infinity simbol. If you look closely to the simbol on the eyes of Noah and Mio, you'll see that it is shaped as a Ying Yang, it's just that the flames effect makes it hard to see it.
      E. Nopons are never shown as part of the cycle of rebirth, nor they show their age tatoos, and Riku seems pretty mature by the time he gives the sword to Noah. They might be tied to a flame clock (I don't think so) but they don't die every now and then, nor Moebious has a tight grip on them, as Riku says he simply can ignore the calls and X mentions that the nopon were supposed to not interfere.
      F. Yeah, the sheaths hiding the monado looking swords are their blades, but for whatever reason they have special ones and N's one has the Moebious symbol and looks like a Moebious monster, even before accepting being N. But the Lucky Seven looks the same for both of them. And I mostly say Monado looking because they look like Alvis' and Malos' Monados (yeah, a katana shaped blade with a circle at the base). Malos even has Monado Arts. I guess Mythra doesn't have a Monado looking sword just to differentiate the games when XC2 was supposed to not be related to XC1, although it might be for another reason.
      G. I'm not sure which part of what I said are you trying to refute, but I never said that all of them had counterparts. And Ouroboros are not necessarily created with Origin Metal, as Nia says that it is just a trinket and the real power lies inside of them. Kinda like how the monados are described tbh.
      H. Origin might be a giant construct to hold lives, but it gave birth to a god born from the Collective Unconscious fear of dead/annihilation/oblvion/the unknown. There might be one born from hope or there might have been one that encapsulated everything the Collective Unconscious holds, before Z. Maybe Lucky Seven might have been forged by nopon originally, but "became" the monado for Z and another being, as Monados can take different shapes depending on the wielder and they choose to make it look like L7 as it was special.
Thanks for making the points into a list :)

2:54 Origin was meant to preserve the worlds of 1 and 2. Either by rebooting them post destruction or by stopping them merging. Origin was NEVER meant to destroy.
Also it's directly stated that Noah's sword is "forged in resonance with the Keves queens heart".
It also is made out of the same metal as Origin which Nia grows with her core. At least the Agnian half. So however the metal was formed for Keves it's likely lucky 7 comes from that side and N's sword the other.
Also in the hero roster Noah's sword is known as veiled sword. But if you do the upgrade quest it changes to Truthsinger. This is the only weapon (except arguably Mondo) that sounds like it has a proper "name". Noah claims that he renamed the sword something personal right? Well, while training under Crys he was told that Crys wanted to hear the truth of his emotions through the music he played. So I'm reasonably sure that Truthsinger is what he renamed the sword.

I'm probably missing something but as I see it, Lucky Seven/Sword of Origin works on a physical level in the same way as Origin itself.
We know that the sword is made of he same stuff as Origin wich besides the name of the material and how the machine barely works, we know nothing, but what we know is that up until Noah's breakdown, Lucky 7 was simply a really sharp sword that could cut through Ferronises's flame clocks , which perhaps are also made of Origin metal.
As pointed out in the video only when Noah decides to move on, to accept Mio's death and carry on her wishes its when he can unleash the Swords true power.
In other words, only when Noah's intentions fully aligned with those of Origin's purpose, to create a brand new future and world for everyone; is that he can do those crazy things when he unseathes Lucky Seven.
And for the last, the Sword of Origin, most likely when Noah and Mio use the full powers of Lucky 7 in Ouroboros form or when they are in perfect synch, which is pretty much a parallel of what Origin tries to achieve, its powers are cranked up to 11 allowing them to override even the forced order of Aionios and do things such as restoring Miyabi's memories even though Y stated that wasn't possible.

I remember wondering what kind of significance it was going to have, and then it ended up having... none? It's unaffected by Moebius, so I assumed that it was just made by Nia in the same way the Ouroboros was. Nothing special there, just a material that Moebius can't affect. Origin wasn't designed to "destroy", it was designed to preserve, and then recreate, life.
Monado? Sword of the Bionis, aka the sword of the creator of the universe.
Aegis? Again, created by the creator of the universe, manifested according to the rules he set up.
Lucky Seven? It's just a cool sword.
And Riku implied that there were more like it, which I took to mean that the original Ouroboros each had their own weapon, all made out of the same anti-Moebius material.
If your take on it is correct, then the entire game is horrifically depressing. I mean, it already is (that ending, holy shit), but it's the first time that the main goal isn't the preservation of life or saving the world. Your goal is to destroy the world. Maybe that was the intent, but it just feels so wrong that I can't accept that.

If it was just a sword, I’m still confused as to why it randomly gives Noah this new attack when interlinked, plus being able to resist X’s scepter. It wouldn’t randomly start powering up just because Noah now makes the ‘right’ decision to let go instead of trying to save lives… which admittedly in itself sounds a bit morbid. For being ‘just a sword’ it does some magical boosh whenever the story feels like it should, huh? At least it has timing behind it that makes some sense in the story.
I’m starting to see that most of these big moments come down to metaphors: Noah and co being the metaphor for ‘going forward’ and moebius and the consuls (rather obviously since it’s literally said in the game) standing for ‘the fear for the future, not being able to move on’. N here is the guy who just couldn’t find the strength to move on with the thought of losing Mio, and Noah is then the alternate version that *does* learn to move on and go forward.
Too bad it loses a lot of it’s intended meaning because Mio isn’t actually dead at all. Noah makes a choice, but he doesn’t have to see it through. He doesn’t have to ‘fight it alone’ and prove his resolve, he gets to have it all and doesn’t really have to prove that he can let go until the very end. It could’ve been a powerful message but instead the game chose for metaphors upon metaphors, seemingly forgetting the human aspect of it all. It’s like I’m now seeing two concepts fighting it out, instead of two characters holding on to their own beliefs.
Might also feel that way because of how preachy Noah gets in the last chapters, spouting a lot more vague inspirational stuff about hope, free choice and ‘the world’. He seems more like a concept than Z at some times! Say what you will about Rex, at least he felt like a character when he was having his moments instead of a walking metaphor.
Ah well, might be looking too deep into it.

N and Noah are literally the same conciousness split into two schizo halves. Similar to Pyra and Mythra

I'm pretty sure it's not that deep. Later on, Nia tells that Ouroboros stems from origin metal and her, while origin metal and Melia's power creates the sword of the end, which an older Noah (he's always bad at names) named lucky seven. When drawn normally, it gives great power, but if drawn while in Ouroboros form, it combines with Nia's aspect of Origin and forms the complete thing. You can see Origin in the hilt of the sword. The reason N can use it too is because he's a Moebius and was likely given that power by Z, not wielding the real Sword of the End

Origin is as powerful as the conduit/Zohar since it can make a universe and separate two again. The sword is made from a shard of origin. The only metal that can survive the combination of matter and anti-matter. It’s probably more powerful than the other two “monados” from the other games.

It was an interesting concept, but terrible writing in the dialogs. Could have been the translation, young writers who don't really understand life, or just trying too hard. Hope and Change are subtexts, NOT THEMES. They make for terrible themes, especially in dialog because they are vanilla and low concept (any ameteur can write a story about 'hope', not to mention the idea doesn't actually have any power, it's pure fantasy). It's like making a super hero movie about strength and speed - no one cares. It's who the hero is and how he transforms as a character that makes the story. People aren't stupid - they know an interesting character when they see one. Noah's character is really shallow as presented, unfortunately. He just preaches sermons and acts shocked all the time. It's really unfortunate.

Noah isn't shallow, he's stoic. It's careful characterization that seems a bit lost on you atm. He's careful in how he presents himself because attitude has been a killer for those around him. Joran's obsessive desire to be a hero, Garvel's desire for control and power, Mwamba's excitement for his homecoming. All of these intense desires ended in these people's deaths. Noah understands the underlining issue of what put these people in a position to die and he describes the homecoming ritual as built upon a pillar of corpses, he exists believing either way he is truly trapped within a cycle of death from the beginning. Once he becomes oroboros his vision of the end has changed, he's living his own future, not the now moebius designed, giving him the means to call upon the true power of "lucky seven" (or hope). And at the very end when hope is no longer needed to change the future, because it has been obtained, he lets go of hope. This tool of hardship, clung onto by N, who was unable to let go until M's gambit payed off and he was faced with the fact that M is gone. He could only lie to himself, that's why he has a sword of the origin, he has let go not by his own choice, but hers.

Wow you really didn't understand the story and writing and it tells lol. Tetsuya Takahashi has been writing big JRPGs since the 90s and is the main guy behind every Xeno- franchise. He isn't exactly an "amateur" lol

    • @Nahash5150

@@Cue-Ball. Takahashi doesn't write everything. He certainly didn't translate it. He doesn't even design all the characters. He primarily works on the world building and concept. I'm not convinced Takahashi wrote the dialog, nor did he develop the villains. Not his style. If he did, he needs to retire. The villains were boring, trite, and completely stupid. The story has numerous flaws and for a series ending scenario, makes only small attempts to tie up past events and missing character arcs.

Story still a lot down, nowhere as good as the previous two games.
