- "Rhode Island’s It For Me" is the official state song of Rhode Island. The lyrics are by Charlie Hall, and the music was written by Maria Day. Hall, a comedian, was known for poking fun at Rhode Island in the songs composed for the comedy troupes of "Charlie Hall's Ocean State Follies." Asked at some point after 1992 if he could write something good about the state, Hall penned "Rhode Island’s It For Me." It was adopted as the state song in 1996, replacing "Rhode Island," by T. Clarke Browne, which became the official state march.
It may be small, but it's 6% bigger at low tide!

What a terrific blend of naturalistic poetry, subtle sociopolitical commentary, and a straightforward explanation of exactly what a lighthouse does.
Rhode Island has always been my favorite state (I live in Ohio). It may be the thirteenth state, but that just gives the little area of land that could easily fit in Yellow Stone some spirit.
Born and raised here. I never take this State for granted. So, so many beautiful areas, and towns. If you've never been, I recommend it. I'd be delighted to give any visitor a personal half day tour of the State and share its history and sights with you!
I live in Japan now but LOVE introducing the state and its many little wonders to Japanese people. Many of the students I've taught have now made added Rhode Island to their bucket lists of places to see in the world!

I'm a Rhode Islander, too. :) We sang this song as part of a school concert when I was in elementary school (over 20 years ago). I always thought it was beautiful, and that we are lucky indeed to come from such a beautiful state (even our motto of "Hope" is beautiful). And yes, that is a bit sad about the jewellers. I come from a family of fine RI jewellers!

Roger founded our colony with the help of natives on the principle of basic human decency and equality for all - a concept the puritans soon forgot after the first 'Thanksgiving'. /sorry for history rant

I have a good friend from RI and I used to tease him about coming from the smallest state. I recently viaited him and saw RI for the first time and by golly its amazing. So much to do and see. It is a beautiful place, and I hold much love for it

@Adolf Hitler true, while RI isn't an island, it has over 100 islands including Aquidneck Island (aka Rhode Island), the original location of RI colony (it's an English corruption of the Dutch "Roodt Eylandt", meaning "red island"). Aquidneck is one of the largest islands in the US. Block Island and Conanicut Island are also pretty huge.

Rhode Island is actually just referring to the large Island of Nantucket, the state's full name is "State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations" so Rhode Island itself is an island, but the rest of the state is made up of the Providence Plantations
Nantucket is in Massachusetts. Aquidneck island (Portsmouth, Middletown, and Newport) is "Rhode Island".
