- I Love New York (stylized I ❤ NY) is both a logo and a song that are the basis of an advertising campaign and have been used since 1977 to promote tourism in New York City, and New York State. The trademarked logo, owned by the New York State Department of Economic Development, appears in souvenir shops and brochures throughout the state, some licensed, many not. The song is the state song of New York.

The girl my aunt married was from Toronto and remembers a lot of Buffalo NY commercials
You had to understand the times. Released in 1977 after near-NYC Bankruptcy, the Burning of the South Bronx, Rioting and Looting of the 1977 Blackout - New York's reputation was in tatters. The I Love New York campaign sought to revive our image of all things that we have in New York. Broadway was featured as were other parts of the State. Attractive NY then saw rebuilding of the City and return of visitors and vacationers.
I think during the second half of the 1978 season, the Yankees used this song when they took the field.
They need to bring it back to increase post-pandemic visits.

I remember this from the tourism commercials in the early 80s, which now that I think about it, was kind of weird because they were showing the commercials on WPIX to people who already lived in New York.
Lol I grew up in New Jersey exit 12 on the turnpike 15 miles from Manhattan near Newark Airport. That's very true I remember seeing the commercials on channel 11. I never thought about it like that. We always went to NYC to visit family

In the late 1970s to the early 1980s this was all over the radio/TV if you lived in the tristate area. I was way out on Long Island in the middle of nowhere (I miss that. these days it's almost as bad a queens out here) and I heard it all of the time.
