In my opinion, that the removal of dislikes is for big corporations and politicians. Dislikes not only show dissatisfaction in the open, but it lets people see "Oh hey, I am not the only one that hate this dumb crap". Personal thought is that it removing dislikes works heavily in favor for corporations and politicians, both for PR and the afermentioned solidarity so one could argue it's part in demorlization among other things. Another thought, it's not playing it safe in my opinion or else they'd prop up individuals that report or comment on news and have as much, if not more, views than news channels. So I think it's more about control of information, as conspiratorial as it sounds As for anime and the whole talk about bringing life blood. I... I dunno, real life experience can bring its perspective, but I dunno, I think the problem is what is mentioned later in that proven formulas are rewarded. Creativity can be taken from real life experience, but the opposite can be said as well, where being more isolated and deep diving into your own mind and imagination can also bring its own creativity in a way that real life never can and may even taint the creativity as you make the mistake of being too grounded and limiting yourself to real life experiences. Spec Ops The Line, Silent Hill 2, Planescape Torment. All of these games star a main character who isn't a good person, who does horrible things and goes through horrible events. Yet they're all interesting to follow. YiiK's main character could've been interesting if the writing was better, but here we are.

Getting back into movies, and especially older classics, has completely killed my tolerance for anime. I'm incredibly picky in general, but with movies there's like 100+ yrs of masterpieces to pick from, so you can bet I'll be even more deliberate with what anime I choose watch. I've watched 350 anime and I doubt I'll get over 500 in the rest of my life, I feel like I've watched 95% of the truly amazing stuff / what I think I'll really love, and there's thousands of manga left out there... not to mention I want to learn how to read actual books again.
In the past 10 years, I’ve seen about ten shows that weren’t anime. Anime was a giant love of mine, but I felt like I finally “got it” after I finished Vlad Love (which I loved) and after my 9 year Evangelion Final wait ended (movie sucked imo). I noticed anime made me give off an energy that repelled everything I wanted out of life. Six months ago I stopped watching and two weeks after that, I got my first girlfriend lol. Man I think Mask would have a really educational and transformative experience with Rance 01: Hikari wo Motomete The Animation, its like if Einstein, Shakespeare, Freud and Newton combine their power to create a vastly intellectual masterpiece, whose effects still permeate the anime industry to this day.
This is so funny to listen to 'cause literally everything you bring up is getting addressed in YIIK I.V :D the last update was based on feedback from the Discord as well, and it's in beta testing right now if you're interested Also the thing about the Dick Masterson quote...there's a reason he says "okay, I've prepared a bit" before he says it. It's a bit, and one that was based on a single tweet he'd seen that said that games that depict unpleasant things are automatically bad games Also the thing about postmodernism is that the game presents a metanarrative, and you're supposed to question it
Is Yiik really postmodern? The characters are pretty flat and dull. Rory, for example, could've easily be the most post modern character. He tags along as a companion and has serious mental health issues. In any other Rpg he would be saved by the power of friendship, in Yiik Rory kills himself. That can be a commentary on how mental health is tricky and in reality if a guy like Rory went through that stuff he'd probably be worse. But the issue is that this is entirely optional depending on player choices, just like in other games. And Rory's death has no bearing on the plot which could be used to say something like the unfortunate reality of death not mattering in the end or something but instead it's just kinda an after thought like it was just thrown in. And Rory staying alive has no impact on the plot so he ends up just not mattering at all in the end. There's other examples like how Yiik's cast just blindly follow Alex with autonomy, just gravitating around him and saying they're friends like a bad Rpg party. Or how the game's visuals, although well done, is kinda generic at times like "here's a beach town, here's a house, here's a sewer."
I think people can be free to make whatever art they want, which can include post-modern weirdness like YIIK. The problem comes from when they expect commercial success from it or for people to enjoy it just because it's their artistic vision. Most people want to have fun playing a game, you can't expect positive reception from selling it to them and then them having a terrible time. If your goal is to elicit pain, you should be happy to see people curse your game to the heavens, or if your goal is to appeal to a niche, you should be happy to see the game positively received by that niche, damn those outside of it.
great podcast, but with all new guests it's hard to track who's voice who's sometimes especially if listening in chunks. Some audio levels visualization near the portraits would help :)
About back arrow, it is my favourite anime released this year. It only has 6 point something on mal but honestly I highly recommend. I’m not a big fan of some of the choices in later episodes but I’ll just say that the highs of the show are really high, legit some favourite moments ever, but some parts are pretty boring though.
This is a very interesting move on UA-cam’s part. It’s backed by their own data as well as long understood psychology about bandwagoning and public ballot counts. Having a public dislike count can result in people using the button on a heavily disliked video they normally wouldn’t because of a perceived normality in the action. This can lead to some specific video having overwhelming large dislike counts fueled by groupthink that doesn’t require any coordination whatsoever… Very sinister… This is a very well known phenomenon that has been discussed in the form of how public ballot counts can affect the outcome of votes since the ancient greeks, and removing them has been consistently shown to result in an outcome that is more representative of the individual beliefs of the voters. UA-cam did a good thing!!! They saved creators from the scourge of the evil groupthink!!! There’s a problem here. In practice, the only people who have actually been affected by this problem is large Music, Game, or Movie production companies or UA-cam itself (with minor mentions to large tech companies and other social sites). The Infinite Warfare Trailer, Justin Bieber’s Baby video, the last two UA-cam Rewinds, are classic examples of videos that got absolutely obliterated by the dislike bandwagon. They (as well as other ones) were so significant that they caused real change in the future endeavors of those companies, and also cost a lot of people a lot of money. Obviously, the odd apology video gets blown up as well as other controversial UA-camr bs, but are those the videos that people remember for being heavily disliked? Are those the ones that broke records? There have been very few (or at least proportionally few) cases were dislikes killed creators; if they really cared about that they would get rid of comments lmao. The only people this hurts are the aforementioned big companies with lots of money. At the end of the day, this move is super sketchy, especially considering the fact that they still haven’t adequately addressed the concern that most users use the dislike count to gauge whether they want to watch a video. Now they have to spend even more _time_ to _watch_ videos to see if they’re worthwhile… wait a second…
What exactly happened. I used to watch the PCP and then that just became the Ben Saint show and I dipped. Feel like everything collapsed after that I don’t know where everyone went and is doing. Then out of nowhere Nate started this.
@@WowThereBuddy1 At first people just slowly drifted away. Jessy never really came back after the mumkey jones drama. Munchy was busy with school. Davoo just disappeared for a while. Digi & Nate started missing a ton because they decided to focus on their channels and also made a weekly anime podcast channel together. That left only Ben, gib and Tom. The events OP is talking about was the falling out between Digi and Nate. Digi went trans which ended with May and Digi breaking up. That lead to Digi then getting new friends that took Digi on another path of experimental content. Digi decided to go on a road trip with the new friends which would get in the way of the weekly anime channel with Nate. Nate also didn't like Digi's new friends due to them always starting beef or being in online drama. So Nate smartly broke off association with Digi to avoid getting roped into online drama. It was clear Digi's priorities changed. Digi and Ben have also turned into enemies. After that I don't know what else happened as it's all petty internet bullshit. Glad Nate got out early. He's better off grinding his channel and making new connections. If you wanna know all the details then I suggest checking out the Digi thread on kiwifarms. They have documented every single detail. Though be warned that the people on there are akin to 4chan posters so there are no social filters.
@@alexmartin6561 Wow all of this is a real shame. Digi has always been sort of flippant and jumps on whatever they’re feeling at the moment without any regard for the people around them. I sort of figured something would happen with May eventually but it is sad they broke up. It’s funny that I tend to have politics that are technically closer to Bens but I find way more enjoyment out of Nate’s content as he doesn’t self censor because of his. Overall it’s just an interesting but sad shit show whats transpired with all of them. I agree though, I’m happy that Nate is doing his own thing.
Thanks for the update. Nate has always been the cream of the crop outta the lot of them.
Dropped out of listening to PCP when Digi thought it was cool dropping the N bomb like the immature edge lord they are, then started smoking weed acting like a 15yr old at 28. Nate's a gd dude, happy he cut the trash loose ie garbage humans.
Paused this video and went to go read all of Onani Master Kurosawa. Man, what a rollercoaster!
This episode is a fucking gold mine. BestGuyEver, I love you. Discovering you was the best thing I got from engaging with the PCP
Zyzz died for our sins, we're all gonna make it, Brah!
Founded the aesthetics movement alongside Jason Genova.
It's an actual tragedy that melos OoT review doesn't have 5 million views by now god damn it
Finally the only podcast that matters has returned.

This was amazing I loved every second of it from YICK to being exhausted of anime and talking shit generally !
All 3 guests are solid. All topics are I quite care. Wonderful to have discover Running Shine and The Masked Man.
Man, I lived in Japan for 2 years and I only felt like 3 earthquakes.

Dude running shine? Nice
Holyyyy shiieettt this was SO FUCKING GOOOOODDD
Weebcasto?
Original Anime are almost always worth checking out. Last season we got Sonny Boy. This season on the other hand we have Takt OP Destiny, which is kinda shit. But I do want to see it grow strong and healthy.
For learning Japanese, I wish everyone included jp subtitles in their encodes, instead of the current situation where when you hear a word you don't know, you have to either try to look it up in a dictionary phonetically, or hunt down that rare encode that decided devoting 5 bytes to subs was a better use of space than 5 gigabytes of English audio that I have to switch to jp every time I open a new episode
Finally, a good PCP episode.
Gr8 convo Nate. Keep up the stellar work. Stay frosty yo
Definitely make running shine a regular
Mad respect for all the guys here
Only watching for Running Shine
Great conversation all around. Made a new a fan of all of you.
it wont be long til all comments on vids begin with " vid bad" or just comment that as a replacement to the dislikes i think
It's 2 am but this is more important than sleep
I would love to have this on podcast platforms. I know it doesn't get uploaded that often but still.
Nate in Japan on Trash Taste when?
The virgin complaint about the PCP vs the chad complaint about the Po D. Cast
What's PCP ?
*Finally he admits it!*
Can we get a story time about that time four years ago when my favorite animu youtubers Bestie Boi and Grant first met?
Very helpful discussion about the language learning! I relate to similar challenges as discussed but with Mandarin Chinese and living in Taipei.
When I talked to my friend about Eva and why I didn't like it, they said "You just didn't get it" and tried to explain why Eva is so good...
glad to see you got a new talk show going
ayo masked man and gigguk
Algo Rythm, baebee!
Feels bad for the two other guys while they talk about Yick or whatever
I would love to see Nate appear as a guest on the Trash Taste podcast if he visits Japan again soon
Where the fuck is the rest of the Ghost in the Shell series Nate? Did you think you could mention it in passing and get away with it!?
gaymer zone > PCP
excuse you, We Hate Anime is our brand how dare. J'ACCUSE sir! We are the one and only Haters of anime, and you best not forget it. You might think your shorts are big now, but the undeniable legacy of the We Hate Anime podcast will persist for at least one more year, two tops. In the grand scheme of Podcasts that's a millennia. and where will you be? sitting on a pile of of laundered gold after the apocalyptic collapse of society reduces us to barbarism and the gold standard? Literarily nowhere compared to the imagined greatness our inflated egos has gained us
good day, Mr. Guy Ever, if that is your REAL name.
I uh, I dunno how to say this one, but Yiik is one of my favorite games of that year when it came out.
Yes, I’m prepared for the weird looks. Anyway, I defintely really appreciated Running Shine’s video for that reason. His review was one of the few I related to even if he didn’t like the game anywhere as much as I did
I havent watched this channel for YEARS
No Ben, no watch. See you next week.
BGE brings the best out of the guests, fight me.
Around 1:49:00 Nate definitely said "Nakama" in reference to his friends right? lol
Actually, I think it might be even worse, I think he said senpais
@@Daseril he definitely said senpai
No Nate November
S’crazy. I haaaaated Eva when I first saw it. End of Eva fucked me up. But I love it now. And the rebuilds just made me love Eva more.
34:00 Persona 5 Royal would like a word
Onani master kurosawa is preety great
I NEED MORE GAMER ZONE.
Was not expecting this rad ass crossover
Go back to weekly videos Nate! We miss you! So stop slacking you nerd!
Glad more people are fucking with running shine.
I've seen all of Back Arrow, and I liked all of it! I do not understand any of the people saying it sucks, it's a lot of fun.
Currently watching Back Arrow. I think I’m a little over half way through. Still a lot of fun.
He should get zegodhand on here, truly the most hidden of hidden gems.
This was a good ass podcast. good job.
