Recently, I got passed down my great grandfather's alvarez he got back in 81. It is an absolute joy to play on.
Nothing like a handmade Alvarez Yari guitar, one of the most sought after guitars ever made.
I’ve had my Yairi for nearly 40 years. It will probably outlive me.
I just pulled an Alvarez Model 5022 out of the trash.
Hand Made in Japan, snowflake inlays...
One man's trash is another's treasure. ✨
All my acoustics are Alvarez. I need no others.
I have a 1990 Alvarez Yairi DY-77 that has been an exceptional trouble-free instrument. I realize the Yairi models are the top of the line handbuilt guitars that Alvarez offers, but I have been watching the company develop in the last several years and it seems that the pursuit of quality is finding it's way into the rest of the models they are building. Good to see that there are more dealers picking up the Alvarez brand.
I bought a DY-77 new and regretfully sold it after owning it for about a year. Oh well.
My 1976 DY77 is a lifetime guitar....
I have a rare bird: an Alvarez archtop (with round soundhole like the old Gibson archtops). It's a BE 70CE -- a 12 fret cutaway. It's an amazing guitar. I believe these were demo'd at NAMM in around 2014 but never went into production. I got one of them after spending forever trying to track one down (I believe there were only six ever made). Anyway, I don't know why these never went into production because mine is incredible and is always the topic of conversation whenever anybody learns that Alvaraz tried an archtop.
I have always thought they are simply amazing guitars! I gave owned probably 8 over the years. I have yet to do a neck adjustment or anything like that on them!!
I have a 1975 Alvarez acoustic guitar I love very much
i have a 1974 model that was handed down from my dad,its a beautiful guitar and plays great
I've got a 5023 made in Japan in Oct of 1972 that I acquired in 1975. I've never put it in the hands of a guitarist who didn't comment on its beautiful tone or playability ease. She still sings with a lovely unique and clear voice to this day regardless of the style of music. I wouldn't sell or trade this instrument for any other.
I too bought a used 5023 in 75/76 for $40! Sold it in 77 for $40😩 Bought it back in 77 for $40 and will never part with it.
I’m a Taylor guy. I just bought a AG610CEARB for $279 brand new and it sounds JUST AS GOOD as my Taylor 414ce. No… I’m not kidding.
I have probably owned at least 8 of them over the years. I have three of them on my wall and they are simply AMAZING guitars !!! They are great guitars for the money !!
Now get a hold of an Alvarez electric from the 90s. My number one is an Alvarez Classic Custom .
Mr Jeremy the fact that you were able to get THE Jerry Garcia in the video with you is just the coolest thing I've seen in a long time!
I have an acoustic baritone (ABT610e) and I love it. It adds a new dimension to all the songs we play weekly at service.
I bought a RD8 when they came out 14 years ago, it was $209 with the hard case. Its been the best guitar i’ve ever owned and i also own about 20 others, two of them being a 91 D45 and a 57 D28. But the rd8 gets played the most still 14 years later, even gig with it. The neck is the best neck i’ve ever felt. I have never had to do anything to it, not even a truss adjust.
I have an Alvarez AD70sc that I love and will be with me for ever. It taught me to love playing guitar, but it's well past time for an upgrade. It was always going to be an Alvarez and after lots of consideration am waiting on delivery of a brand new MD60EBG. Cannot wait to get my hands on it! I've never really been a "fanboy" of anything but I've no shame in being an Alvarez fanboy. They're just amazing guitars in sound and value that punch well above their weight.
I'm 1980, I bought an Alvarez 5024 dove copy..... I'm m still playing it. 6 months ago I bought an Alvarez AJB80CE( walnut jumbo cutaway with electronics). Great guitars!
I'm sold I bought a crafter for my daughter loved it now ill go with Alvarez for myself
I have an MD60ebg that is amazing. I’ve had it for 3 years. I was so impressed with it I bought the AP66shb parlor for my son. It is also amazing. I am now about to purchase the MF60OM. Alvarez makes great guitars, period. The prices being unbelievably fair makes them the easiest decision in the world for me.
Yep. They make great guitars. I have the MD60BG, which is the all solid wood (mahogany back and sides, Sitka Spruce top) guitar. I've done a couple videos on that guitar.
Recording King is another budget priced, all solid wood guitar, that I own and love. The RD-328, which I have, is the rosewood back and sides with Adirondack Spruce top.
You don't have to spend a fortune to have a great guitar.
I have the MDEBG and it’s one of the finest acoustics I have ever played.

Got to love Alvarez guitars
I just bought a MD60EBG and love it great value. I'm was set up perfect too.
I still proudly own a RD8C that I’ve had for a good 20yrs. Still holding strong!
I recently bought an AF30ce and it is amazing. I was gonna get another Mexican Martin but after reading the reviews I decided to give the Alvarez a try at half the price. I'm really impressed. I don't think you can do any better at any price. Perhaps one day, I'll buck up for the Yairi rather than a D-18 or 28. Truly great guitars.
My DY67 Cedar top was bought for me by my wife as a gift. My buddy had a Spruce top version, and it was very loud and clear. I was a little upset that she spent 700 bucks in 1986 for it, and didn’t like the cedar top.
However, after 37 years it has only gotten better. Incredible craftsmanship and it shows over time.
Installed a nice Fishman internal pickup and it sounds divine thru the PA. Yes get one!!!
I got a Takamine in 1983 with cedar top and rosewood back and sides. Very expensive but I got it half the price because the neck was broken and glued. I was dissapointed back then because the cedar made it warmer. But now it´s the right guitar for me.
I recently purchased an 8 string Grand Auditorium, AG60-8CE. It has octave strings on the D & G, and was mainly to test the waters to see if I wanted to order a Taylor 9 string. After a full setup, I played the Alvarez 8 string at several open mics, and the comments from the audiences and other musicians was unanimous in approval. The luthier that did the setup really loves it! I still take my,($3,200), RainSong carbon fiber jumbo, with Stagepro Anthem, to gigs, because it sounds great, and is 100% reliable / consistent. BUT, at home, the $569 Alvarez gets 80% of the playing / practicing time, simply because it is more fun to play! It really sings, especially when I use double octave G strings!
The result is that I have ordered the Taylor 9 string Jumbo from their custom shop. But, I will certainly keep the Alvarez, and use it in places that I may not want to take the more expensive Taylor… I know it will more than hold it’s own.
Super fun guitar! If you are looking for something new in the tonal spectrum, try this 8 string!
A good choice to go with Alvarez. I own 3, including the ABT60CE-8SHB 8-string baritone, and a pair of walnut Masterworks Elite series, one Folk (MFA77CEARSHB) and one Grand Auditorium (MGA77CEARSHB). I've never owned acoustics that are as all-around good as these, at any price point. Exceptional quality at any price point, and top notch customer service through St. Louis Music
I'm in Cross Junction VA. My favorite acoustic guitar is my Alvarez. The tone is like a cross between a Martin and a Gibson
Agree they are great, I had an AP70L artist parlour and it was ace (my daughter fell on it and it was no more). Alas like a lot of builders, their left hand inventory is pretty woeful. Why don't builders at least offer the left hand option of their best selling right hand models?!
Amazing! Very well.
And they make lefty’s.....I have the AD60L.....Like y’all said lifetime guitar… I’m just down the road in Roanoke I’ll come see you sometime
I have an 89 Alvarez 5228 I bought new. Sitka spruce top, rosewood sides and back, mahogany neck. It's only gotten better with time.
I have a late 70's dreadnought that I wish I could find more information on. I understand they were not good at keeping records at that time and I guess it really doesn't matter because it just sounds and plays great.
I have a 6 string Alvarez bass that I would not trade.
Best of luck to you in the future, folks!
I'd like to hear more about 3:10 ... you tend to think of guitars as being passed down, not blowing up...
I picked up their AB610eshb about a half year ago because I always wanted to grab a baritone and it was a Musicians Friend "Stupid Deal of the Day" and the 40% off was enough for me to take the risk of buying it without playing it first. Man, it's one of the best acoustics I've ever played and I often find myself playing it as much as my Taylor ad22e.
I jus ordered that guitar. How’s it goin still?
@@ProdJMO9 I still love it. :)
I don't care what anybody says- Alvarez is dope. My bari is my favorite guitar by a million miles, and it cost 300 bucks used.
I have some Masterworks ones MD60BG that's a great guitar .
Have many guitars. My favorites are my first: a 1988 regent. And my yari I bought 2 years ago. Great instruments.
I have two. One is older than y'all and one is about a year old. They are both played often.
On your channel I’ve loved watching you chase guitars, especially the rare and and boutiques. The reality is i will most likely never own one. But I have owned and still do own several Alvarez. For the money they can’t be beat. I’ve even bought a couple of my kids Alvarez and they love them. For me there is no reason to blow the bank. I’ve had true gigging musicians tell me they love the sound of my main instrument and when they hear what I paid for it, they start to joke about what they paid for their’s that really is no better than mine.
With the savings buy an amp.
Alvarez vs. Eastman shoot out video soon?
I remember a few years ago, just bought a new j45 gibson and went to the store for strings and there was a Alvarez don't remember the model, black top😑I was blown away away
Best slide rig i ever had
Wow, Jeremy! I don't think I have heard a better sounding parlor than the MPA 66 etc( lol). Really awesome. Maybe?!
I played an mdr70 a couple days ago, it was a cannon....loved it
I bough my son an RD8 from the pawn shop...it's a great cheap guitar. Nothing wrong with them for the guy on a budget. You won't blow everyone away with the volume but great playability and ok tone
These demos don't sound too great, but i've played them in the store and they sound and feel awesome.
I love Alvarez guitars.
For me the 70’s and early 80’s Japan built are my favorites. I own a 75’ 5024 (Dove version) that I love so much and a recently acquired 82’ 60th anniversary 5041 which I know little about but it’s got the plaque on back of head stock # 000261. If you know more about this model can you please let me know. Thanks. Alvarez rules!
fabrican de 12 cuerdas guitarras se llaman doserolas aqui en sinaloa mexico saludos
I'm looking for Alvarez Yairi WY-1PRP 1990s Trans Purple. I was on the phone with a music store when it sold online. It's a beautiful guitar.
@JerremySheppard I have a 1977 Alvarez model 5022 "Barn Find" I found in the upper loft of my aunt's barn and going through the Michigan summer and winter weather surprisingly this thing is in amazing condition and looks and sounds amazing!!!! "Thank you Michigan weather"!!!!! I would love to know ho to post pictures and videos/of how this guitar looks and sounds!!!!
That was a long ad
A MD75S is my everyday. I bought it for a beater. Boy was I surprised...
Great video! Thank you!
I have an Alvarez RD8. It has an 11/16 nut, but I would like a wider nut like 3/4 or 13/16. Does Alvarez make a guitar with wider nuts?
Jeremy .....any thoughts on a comparison between Yiari and Boucher OM models with identical tonewoods . Ease of playing , neck profiles, tone ....etc . Have you had a chance to play any Bouchers with Bubinga ?....Thanks
Hi Jeremy,
I’ve been looking at these two Alvarez models since I’ve seen your recent videos.
Masterworks 12-Fret
MDR70ESB
Yairi 12 fret DYMR70SB
I would like your honest opinion since you’ve played both of them. Which one would you pick? I know there’s a big price difference between the two, I am leaning towards the Yairi because it seems to sound amazing however the price and from what I can see from pictures and videos the one made in the factory in China is still pretty amazing and seems to me about $1700 less than Yairi,,, any insight you may have would be appreciated.
Thanks !!!
You should hear my low end 12string Alvarez ...not bad for a used under $100 guitar
That delta 00 is great!
Hey Jeremy - Because of this video I went ahead and bought an AG60AR off Reverb for $299 with free shipping. I needed something better than the basic Epiphone dreadnaught that I've been struggling with. I don't need $$$$1000s guitar but want something that sounds & plays good. From the videos I've seen and what I've read, plus this video this seemed like a good option.
Really looking forward to getting my hands on it.
BTW - have you or anyone you know tried any of the flat top strings for acoustic?
Thanks Much!
Love the channel!
“…plays as good as a Taylor and sounds as good as a Martin”. I personally think Alvarez surpasses both. I own a Taylor and I’ve played martins. My Alvarez is the guitar hanging in my bedroom so I can play any time I get the itch.
That hat can take my money now.
MD60 is awesome. As i mentioned below i got one used from GC for $400. Play it every day.
Liked it so much that when I saw another one for the same price I got that too for my second (work) residence
For the money you won't get a better guitar.
These compete against entry level martins, taylors, and various other brands like Eastman and guild.
To my ears alvarez blow them away.
Alvarez and yamaha always win when I try out guitars
i have an Alvarez model 5023 serial number 2042. looks older. needs strings and some work. would like to know how old it is and if its worth any thing ??
My first guitar was an Alvarez hate I sold it many years ago.
Ive got an Alvarez Regent. I swear, I dont know how, but the dang thing is NEVER out of tune, even though its left laying all over the place!!!
WTH!
i have the masterwork -but the laminates sound better now cause solid hasn't opened up yet-yeah they are nice-we have a master player in our valley and he has one-mine is mahogany spruce top -a small one master-it is real pretty and great for finger picking
I should calarify that my comment on the laminate tops sounding better than solid, was in comparison to other equivalently priced entry level guitars that advertised having solid tops. The comment was specifically about how good the Regent series sounds. The Artist and especially the Masterworks guitars are amazing, and will only get better with age and proper care. -Chris
whats the song in the start?
Can you tell me something. I’m looking at the MD70BG. I’ve been told they are now discontinued. But they have something new called MD70HB which is the herringbone. Are these the same specs ? Have you guys seen these yet ? They are new for 2024 .
They've changed to the herringbone. Still basically the same guitar. Has an LR Baggs HiFi pickup, which is an upgrade. I just played one of these for the first time last week.
My Alvarez AD66SHB is a great guitar
I agree they sound great but nothing beats a Martin.
Masterworks sounds so much better than other two tiers.
I have a '96 K Yairi DY53 N (Alvarez Canyon Creek in the US) that I bought new here in the UK in '96 - I never play it, sounds dull and has lost the zing it used to have
Thanks for the video. I'm a fan of Alvarez guitars. If I'm honest, Jeremy's(?) sound demos didn't do these guitars any favors. I don't know if it was the playing, the acoustics, the recording, or what, but those sound demos did the opposite of selling the guitars to me.
I'm thinking about getting one of those.. great value for the money.
What's the price of the MD 60? Thanks.
$799, I believe. It's excellent! Strong D18 vibes.
Wow, that’s a nice number…
I found a MD60BG used at GC for $400 about 9 months ago. Not a scratch on it. I feel like I stole it each time I play it.
New they run around $700.
Reverb has them too.
=== Why or how did your MD90 blow up? ===
There was a gas leak in the old building where Chris's studio and Hometown Music were located. Everything belonging to 6 businesses was gone instantly. Drums, guitars, all of Chris's Neve consoles
@@JeremySheppard == Sorry to hear that. ===
Thanks. I was just a customer at that point but it still lingers in our collective psyche
i have a jumbo all maple. looks amazing. plays like shit the piezo sounds like shit and the trust rod is maxed out and there is nothing i can do short of sending it off to get it back to where it was when i bought it. i believe it was $599 new so i didnt expect it to be super high end. but i was really let down by mine. maybe it was just a fluke and the rest are amazing. i will never know because i wont buy another. my advice to anyone is do your research and see how the model they want holds up to time. i have a lot of guitars so i dont just play one. they are all in great condition because i take care of them and thats why im so upset with this one. i have a cheep acoustic i have been playing for years that beats the Alvarez in every way. im not saying to anyone what to do im just sharing my experience with the brand.
I just bought md 60....play nothing else.
Looking for a show. Got an advertisement.
That fair. We're working towards launching a UA-cam channel for Hometown Music and this kind of video will move over there.
I did not like the neck or setup on The Alvarez I played.
My neck is super sweet. Much better than my FG800, which is my frame of reference.
I have since played a few more guitars at GC. The only one that I liked as much is a Seagull S6.
@@ralfybaby Funnily enough, I got a Seagull S6 for my first guitar as I've heard so many great things about it. Few months later I got an Alvarez AP66SHB to try a mahogany top 12-fret guitar, thought I'd give it a try run and sell it if I don't like it. Now my Seagull is mostly collecting dust and the Alvarez is getting most of my love, my guitar tutor loved it too. Good combo of guitars
@@workaccount2415 I was looking at an all mahogany setup. Really liked the Martin D15 but when i played it at a GC I was disappointed. Maybe try the Alvie.
The S6 is great though. Really like that instrument.
nice guitars,
but blablabla presentation...
